2 Gatekeeper and MCU User Help Manual 2 Purpose of Gatekeeper and MCU The Gatekeeper is used to secure the local video conferencing network and securely connect this network to other video conferencing networks. These are linked via the Global Dialling Scheme, GDS. The Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) is used to enable a video conference between three or more end points. If you want to speak to more than one person at a time, you need to use the MCU. Getting Started Requirements To use the MCU via a soft client you will require an account at the Australian Synchrotron. Soft clients are software applications that can communicate with H.323 video conferencing systems. These can be proprietary and users who want to use the video conference remotely must supply their own soft client. To request an account: Call the Australian Synchrotron User Office on Video Collaboration has been tested with popular H.323 video conferencing systems. Your Video Conferencing System must be connected to the Internet or the Australian Synchrotron local area network (LAN). Helpful Hints These are H.323 Video Conferencing Units. You must have a compatible video unit or software to use this system. You must be connected to the Gatekeeper to use the MCU. If you want to call someone at the Synchrotron or from the Synchrotron you must be connected to the Gatekeeper, otherwise the call will fail.

3 Gatekeeper and MCU User Help Manual 3 Using the Gatekeeper Connecting to the gatekeeper at the Australian Synchrotron with local Video Conferencing You must be connected to the Gatekeeper to connect to the MCU. If not then connect to another Video Conferencing unit that is connected to the Gatekeeper. Logging In Open you web browser and connect to the following web site: You will then see: To login: Enter your username in the Username box. Enter your password in the Password box. Click on the Login button.

4 Gatekeeper and MCU User Help Manual 4 VBL Menu You will then see: This tasking area is the main menu for the VBL. You can move to all service areas and also change your password from this page. To access the Video Collaboration service: Click on the Collaboration link.

5 Gatekeeper and MCU User Help Manual 5 Collaboration Selection Menu You will then see: This shows you the video collaboration end points. Click on the Beamline you wish to access.

To access the video collaboration end point for this beamline: Click on Start Video Collaboration. Then, on the Video Call screen, click the Gatekeeper On button. Gatekeeper On

7 Gatekeeper and MCU User Help Manual 7 Disconnecting from the gatekeeper at the Australian Synchrotron with local Video Conferencing You must be disconnected from the Gatekeeper to connect to another Video Conferencing unit not connected to the Australian Synchrotron Gatekeeper: To disconnect: Go to the Video Conferencing unit page for that beamline, as per the connection process above. Click on the Gatekeeper Off button. Gatekeeper Off

8 Gatekeeper and MCU User Help Manual 8 Connecting to the Gatekeeper at the Australian Synchrotron with remote Video Conferencing You must be connected to the Gatekeeper to connect to the MCU. If not then connect to another Video Conferencing unit that is connected to the Gatekeeper. To connect: Go to the H.323 Gatekeeper section of your Video Conferencing unit. Select the H.323 Gatekeeper to use. Enter the Australian Synchrotron Gatekeeper s name: mcu.synchrotron.org.au. Your Video Conferencing unit will be allocated a number from our range. Disconnecting from the Gatekeeper at the Australian Synchrotron with remote Video Conferencing If you want to connect to a Video Conferencing unit not connected to the Australian Synchrotron Gatekeeper, you must disconnect from the Australian Synchrotron Gatekeeper. To disconnect: Go to the H.323 gatekeeper section of your Video Conferencing unit. Unselect the H.323 Gatekeeper that is in use. Using a soft client with the Gatekeeper To use the Australian Synchrotron Gatekeeper with remote video conferencing, you must have your own soft client and also a username and password on the Australian Synchotron Gatekeeper: To connect: request to gatekeeper@synchrotron.org.au Configure as per client instructions to mcu.synchrotron.org.au. Using the Australian Synchrotron MCU Once you are connected to the Australian Synchrotron Gatekeeper, you can then dial into a conference: Beamline Conference Call Number Number of people who can connect at a time (Ports) MX PD Meeting Space Dialling a Video Conferencing unit with the Gatekeeper Once you are connected to the Australian Synchrotron gatekeeper, you can then dial into a beamline Video Conferencing unit: Beamline Dialling Name Dialling Number HD MPEG Capability (H.264) MX1 AS_MX Yes Yes PD AS_PD 4922 Yes Yes Demo AS_DEMO 4923 Yes Yes Multiple Screen Capability (H.329)
