1 NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release 15 March 2013 CapitaLand supports Earth Hour 2013 for the sixth year 248 CapitaLand properties across Asia and Europe will turn out their lights during Earth Hour on 23 March 2013 The Group supports Earth Hour s call to create long-lasting environmental impact through its year-long sustainability initiatives including raising indoor air-conditioning temperature and minimising resource usage as part of its standard operating procedures Singapore, 15 March 2013 CapitaLand Limited (CapitaLand) is pleased to announce that 248 of the Group s properties across Asia and Europe will be participating in World Wide Fund for Nature s (WWF) Earth Hour 2013 on Saturday, 23 March The Group has also reiterated its support for Earth Hour, pledging to go beyond the hour with year-long sustainability initiatives. This is the sixth year that the Group is participating in the annual global sustainability movement to show its commitment towards protecting the environment. This year, CapitaLand properties in 20 countries such as Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, China, France, Georgia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam will be playing their part in environmental protection. Participating properties will be turning off their façade lights and non-essential lighting for extended hours throughout the night, beginning 8.30pm (local time) on Saturday, 23 March Emergency lighting and security systems will function normally to ensure that safety and security are not compromised. CapitaLand is pleased to support Earth Hour for the sixth consecutive year with 248 of our properties worldwide turning off their façade lights and non-essential lighting throughout the night. We are also engaging the wider community, as end-users of the Group s properties, to be inspired by our effort to go beyond the hour through our year-long environmental initiatives. In Singapore, 38 CapitaLand office buildings, serviced residences and CapitaMalls will be taking part in Earth Hour CapitaLand is also a venue sponsor for the WWF Singapore s Earth Hour roadshows this year. These venues include CapitaMalls such as ION Orchard, The Star Vista, Bugis Junction and Tampines Mall, as well as CapitaLand s office buildings such as Capital Tower, Six Battery Road, One George Street, Twenty Anson and Wilkie Edge. In conjunction with Earth Hour, Clarke Quay and Funan DigitaLife Mall will host an interactive state-of-the-art augmented reality exhibition from 23 March 2013 to spread the message of sustainability for a greener future. This collaboration is with Singapore Polytechnic and ETH Zurich s DAW International (Digital Art Weeks). Called I play green, and you?, shoppers can use their smart phones to activate augmented reality animations of CapitaLand s green mascot, CapitaFrog, which will interact with them and share tips on saving the environment. In Malaysia, The Mines shopping mall in Selangor has begun its Spread The Green plant adoption drive where funds collected will be donated to the chosen charity, Dignity For Children Foundation. CapitaFrog will also be making a special appearance at The Mines every weekend in March to spread the green message among shoppers. In Kuantan, East Coast Mall has also started its Green Love campaign, which encourages members of the public to reuse and reduce wastage of books and toys by donating their pre-loved items to benefit children in need. The public can also submit their eco ideas at East Coast Mall s We re Greenagers Contest to win weekly prizes for the month of March. In China, CapitaMalls Asia has planned a series of exciting activities leading up to Earth Hour 2013 to draw shoppers and rally them towards the environmental cause. The lineup includes live unplugged performances and an eco knowledge quiz at CapitaMall Xizhimen, Beijing and the Night without lights event at CapitaMall Aidemengdun, Harbin where shoppers can immerse themselves in eco-themed poetry appreciation. Hongkou Plaza, Shanghai will also be holding a design competition and exhibition of artworks created using recyclable materials while CapitaMall Wusheng, Wuhan will be launching a social media campaign to promote green awareness. In addition, Raffles City Shanghai and Raffles City Ningbo will be giving away free eco-friendly shopping bags to shoppers on 23 March Ascott will be organising various activities for its residents and staff in 20 countries to help spread the message of conservation on 23 March These range from a tree planting event in Vietnam, a screening of the documentary film about global warming in China, to an eco-friendly tea light party in the United Kingdom. Beyond the hour, whole year long CapitaLand will continue its commitment to conserving energy with its ongoing Wear Less Day and Wear More Day initiatives. Wear Less Day was inaugurated in Singapore in 2011 in conjunction with Earth Hour and has become a monthly event at all 2

3 CapitaLand offices in Singapore and Ascott serviced residences worldwide. Every first Friday of the month, CapitaLand staff play their part in conserving energy by wearing less or wearing more as air-conditioning and heater temperatures in participating CapitaLand properties are adjusted to consume less energy. As part of its ISO certified Environment Management System (EMS), CapitaLand has standard operating procedures to raise the indoor air-conditioning temperature to 24 C daily for public spaces at its malls and office buildings as well as to minimise resource usage. Ascott has implemented a series of year-long initiatives as part of its Go Ascott global sustainability drive. As the world s largest service residence owneroperator, Ascott s vision is to be the leading green serviced residence company. The initiatives include offering long-stay residents the option to play a part by reducing the frequency of housekeeping, and providing recycling bins and reusable eco-bags or shopping trolleys that reduce the use of disposable grocery bags. Ascott is also adopting the use of green products such as bamboo or engineered wood flooring, energy-saving light bulbs, biodegradable laundry bags, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)-certified paper and bathroom amenities with recyclable packaging to reduce wastage at its properties. On recycling, the Group takes effort to ensure recycling bins are available and easily accessible to home owners, office and retail tenants, shoppers and serviced residence guests at its properties. In Singapore, an average of over 100 tonnes of recyclable waste are collected at 30 CapitaLand properties every month. CapitaMalls Asia has also extended its recycling activities to include light bulb tubes at CapitaMalls in Singapore for its tenants to reduce wastage of resources during store renovation and asset enhancement initiatives. 5 APPENDIX A CapitaLand s commitment to sustainability CapitaLand strives to be an environmentally-sustainable real estate developer and aims to be at the forefront of the industry in terms of green buildings and environmental awareness. As part of CapitaLand s efforts towards environmental sustainability, the Group has set a long-term target to reduce energy and water usage by 20% per square metre (for all the properties that it operates) by 2020, using 2008 as the benchmark. An environmental tracking system is also used to monitor the Group s properties worldwide to ensure that it is on track to meet this target. On green buildings, CapitaLand has set a goal to achieve at least the Singapore Building & Construction Authority s (BCA) Green Mark Gold PLUS status for all Singapore projects and green certification and above by local authorities or organisations approved by the World Green Building Council for all its projects overseas.
