ICT SHOK Focus areas Flexible Services Ecosystem Future Internet Cooperative Traffic ICT Devices and interoperability
ICT SHOK - Devices and interoperability Mission Trends Opportunity Benefit Devices and Interoperability Ecosystem program targets to define and open a completely new domain for technology and service innovation in a global scale. The communication capabilities and computing capacity of both portable and embedded devices plus the ongoing development in the areas of sensor networks, ad hoc networking, location-based services, are all examples of foreseen possibilities of local, networked and heterogeneous smart environments. By connecting and accumulating digital information - both contextual and users information in the multiple devices and in local infrastructure, new applications and services can be created and provided for people, businesses and communities. The program will create new disciplines and competences in Finland for ICT area that results new business on global level.
Challenges Business model, service providers Application developers Device manufacturers Technology Providers, Methods & tools Demonstrate applications and end-user value of smart environments and services for different players device manufactures, service providers infra owners. Empower creation of new services for smart spaces. Bring speed to apps development, Device mash-up. Convince Win-Win situation of bi-directional sharing of services between devices of multiple companies. Interoperability challenges - bridging legacy technologies (computing and communication technologies, system architectures and interfaces, service discovery and communication protocols). Applications Usability of intelligent distributed systems, social aspect of ubiquitous technologies.
Topics and focus groups Interaction & User interface and user experience in smart environments (Kaisa Väänänen-Vainio-Mattila, Pertti Saariluoma) Methods for design (Johan Lilius) Interoperability (Heikki Saikkonen) Wireless sensing, communication and collaboration capabilities (Visa Koivunen) Scenario 1: Buildings as smart environments (Petri Vuorimaa) Scenario 2: Public spaces as smart environments (Kauko Tulla) Scenario 3: Entertaiment cases for smart environments (Seamus Moloney) Scenario 4: Team work in smart environments (Päivi Fadjukoff) Scenario 5: Communities (Kari Mikkelä)
open Building Information exchange (obix) Development started 2003 Currently a technical committee at the OASIS Standard XML representation of the data Standard Web Services interface obix Java Toolkit
Open Source Service Gateway Finally interoperability to BASs Location independency Smart applications Easy to connect devices Based on obix
Open Source Service Gateway Web services technology makes building and home automation systems accessable through the Internet Devices are connected using simple adapter software to convert information to obix format When new device is connected to the system, it is automatically seen as obix device and can be configured using a web browser HTTP allows devices, administrators, users and smart applications to be anywhere on the Internet Information is in simple XML format <obj name= office lamp value= true is= obix:point />
