3 THE MATS ARCHITECTURE AN INTEGRATED SOLUTION FOR MANAGING ASSETS Using the latest.net technology, MATS provides an integrated web-based system operating in multiple database environments in a secure three-tier architecture: Client Layer: Client functionality is provided through a Microsoft.NET 2.0 Windows application. This application is composed of several intelligently designed libraries: a Base library (defining the presentation elements for the User Interface), a Report library (defining the reporting subsystem) and a Web Service Manager library (defining the relationship between the client application and the server layer). HTTP Server Layer: The server layer provides the interface between the client and the database. This layer is an ASP.NET web application. Database transactions are performed via a.net data provider. Windows Server 2003 is the preferred hosting environment for this layer. Database Layer: Data are maintained within a traditional relational database. Data interactions are controlled via stored procedures, functions and triggers, providing a structured mechanism for preserving data integrity while interacting with the server layer. MATS supports both Oracle and Microsoft database technologies.
