2 TENNIS PROGRAMS ABOUT THE HUMAN PERFORMANCE INSTITUTE The Human Performance Institute, Inc. is a world leader in scientifically-based training for athletes ranging from professionals, collegiate players, promising juniors and serious amateurs. Founded and led by performance psychologist Dr. Jim Loehr and sports scientist Dr. Jack Groppel, the Human Performance Institute s training programs incorporate the latest state-of-the-art sports science technology. From nutritional sciences to exercise physiology and sports psychology, the Institute s staff believe that we achieve the best results when all aspects of the athlete s life are systematically addressed in an overall, comprehensive training program. The performance experts at the Institute have trained no less than sixteen #1 s in the world in their respective sport. The Institute clients have included tennis pros Jim Courier, Monica Seles, Pete Sampras and Cara Black, golfer Mark O Meara, Pro Bowl quarterback Jim Harbaugh, hockey greats Eric Lindros and Mike Richter, Indy 500 champion Eddie Cheever, Jr., and Olympic gold medalist speed skater Dan Jansen. TENNIS ACADEMY AT THE HUMAN PERFORMANCE INSTITUTE Led by Director of Athletic Performance Coaching, Lorenzo Beltrame, our professional staff is committed to developing a new generation of world-class players. We offer a year-round, full-time junior High Performance Tennis Academy designed for a select group of talented and committed players.
3 TENNIS PROGRAMS COACHING PHILOSOPHY Our coaching philosophy at the Human Performance Institute, based on more than 30 years of training world-class athletes, is that sustainable top performance is best achieved when athletes find a meaningful and compelling purpose for training and competing beyond simply winning and rankings. Over and again, we have witnessed how viewing athletes as mere numbers, concerned only with their win/loss records, often compromises players development both athletically and personally. Our experience has been that great accomplishments in tennis and life are most likely to occur as players become stronger and healthier people of great character. Technical, tactical, mental and athletic skills are important to success, but the development of each player s character is given the highest priority in our training. VISION The Human Performance Institute s vision for every player is that they use the forces of competitive tennis to become stronger, more fully functioning people in every aspect of their lives. We encourage every player, coach and player s families to create an environment of moral and performance excellence where everyone feels challenged, appreciated, encouraged and respected. We achieve our vision by re-purposing competitive tennis as a vehicle to grow the player s character strengths such as sportsmanship, respect for others, positivity, resiliency, self-control and mental toughness in life. RESULTS While following a demanding training regimen, designed to help players excel at the national and international levels, we encourage competitiors to attend regular school and attain their highest academic goals. Our graduates have been recruited by some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the country including Harvard, West Point, William and Mary, Georgia Tech, Rice University and University of Georgia. PREMIER LOCATION The HPI facility is located in the fast-growing Lake Nona area, which features a number of academic institutions (Lake Nona Middle and High School; UCF Medical School, Valencia Community College) as well as the growing Medical City that include Nemours Children s Hospital, Sanford-Burnham, UF Research and Academic Center, MD Anderson and the VA Medical Center.
4 TENNIS PROGRAMS PROGRAMS The year-round HPI Player Development and High Performance Training Programs are designed for talented and dedicated tennis players ages 10 to 18 and feature personalized attention with a low student to pro ratio. Off-court training includes strength and conditioning as well as mental training which are essential components in each program. The training volume and intensity is customized to the student s age and ability. PLAYER DEVELOPMENT TRAINING PROGRAM The Player Development Training program is for dedicated junior players ages 10 to 14. Players train four days a week (M,T,Th,F) from 3:45 to 6:45 p.m., (rain or shine) including on-court training followed by strength and conditioning and complete their day with mental training. This is a year round program with each player following an individualized vacation and tournament schedule. The summer training schedule offers morning training sessions. HIGH PERFORMANCE TRAINING PROGRAM The High Performance Training program is designed for players ages 12 to 18. Athletes train daily from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, (rain or shine) consisting of on-court training, strength and conditioning as well as mental training. This is a year-round program and each player follows an individualized vacation and tournament schedule. The summer training schedule offers morning training sessions. Private instruction is available and is strongly recommended at an additional cost. PROFESSIONAL TRAINING- WTA/ATP & CHALLENGER LEVEL The Human Performance Institute s tennis training programs for touring pros are offered yearround. Players can utilize the Institute as training base, or come for training sessions during select times of the year. Players have access to world-class performance training by the Institute s team of specialists including strength and conditioning coaches, performance coaches, and nutritionists. Touring pros can bring their coach, or take advantage of the Institute s tennis coaching staff led by Lorenzo Beltrame.
5 TENNIS PROGRAMS ON COURT TRAINING Our daily on-court sessions are designed to progressively improve our players technical and tactical abilities. Using well-defined and tested parameters, Lorenzo Beltrame and the Institute s coaching staff, use a common language to develop players in these areas. Individual attention is given to help ensure all players receive instruction with consideration to age, skill level and biomechanical capacity. STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING TRAINING At the Human Performance Institute, athletes follow a rigourous, precise and personalized strength and conditioning program designed and supervised by Michael Florence. Each program is based on the physiological development of a junior athlete. Programs are designed to emphasize multi-lateral development to establish a solid foundation for future specialization and high performance training. Off-court workouts develop abilities such as mobility, stability, strength, speed, quickness, power and conditioning that a tennis player needs to compete at high levels. Each program also includes an important component of pre-hab - where players are given the knowledge and tools not just to help prevent injuries, but also how to balance and prepare their body for the physical demands of high level competition. MENTAL TOUGHNESS TRAINING Our players train daily to improve their competitive strength following the internationally acclaimed HPI Mental Toughness Training Program. Based on Dr. Jim Loehr s lifetime work and philosophy that has been field-tested for over two decades and refl ected in his new book, The Only Way to Win, the training is now delivered worldwide as a certification program to coaches of every sport. Using innovative training exercises, our young athletes train to control their thoughts, body language, and emotions on and of the court. This program s objective is to improve the athlete s competitive strength and to develop strong people of great character. HPI s Mental Toughness Training Program is the foundation of the Corporate Athlete Course, designed to help corporate executives become more productive and effective under pressure without compromising their personal health and happiness.
