General Information about Department of International Relations International relations as a field of study provides systematic analysis of traditional issues such as security, strategy, diplomacy, war and peace. With globalization, the field is taking on an interdisciplinary character, involving issues of political economy, environment, human rights, democratization, and international terrorism. The course offerings of the Department of International Relations address the widening scope of the discipline: Students have the opportunity to select from a large variety of elective courses taught by prominent scholars. They may choose to study academic issues such as Theories of International Relations, Foreign Policy Analysis or Regional Studies. Area study concentrations provide specific knowledge of the history, language and foreign policy of certain regions or countries, including the European Union, the Middle East, the Balkans, Russia and Central Asia. Students who wish to prepare for professional careers can take courses on International Law, International Business Management, International Environmental Politics or Diplomatic Correspondence. The department runs a four-year degree program in International Relations. In addition, it offers, under the direction of the Institute of Social Sciences, MA degrees. In the Department, there are 2 Associate Professor, 6 Assistant Professors, and 9 Research Assistants. Currently, there are 267 undergradute students at the Departmet. 3
