1 PRESS RELEASE III INTERNATIONAL HACETTEPE UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF FINE ARTS MACSABAL WOOD FIRING SYMPOSIUM OCTOBER 6 14, 2014 Hacettepe University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Ceramics BEYTEPE-ANKARA The Macsabal Wood Firing Symposium, which was started with the leadership of South Korean ceramic artist Kim Yong Moon by Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Ceramics in 2011 and held in Korea, China and Turkey annually parallel to the opening of the academic year, will take place for the forth time this year. To the symposium, which will take place between October 6 and 14, 17 ceramic artists will participate as invited artist: Kemal Tizgöl, Kadir Sevim, Cüneyt Er, Hasan Başkırkan and Rüveyda Terkeşlioğlu from Turkey, and Vilma Villaverde from Argentine, Abbas Akbar from Iran, Ivan Fizer from Ukraine, Gioela Suardi from Italy, Sarra Ben Attia and Mohammed Hachica from Tunisia, Pim Sudhikam and Tuk Sukumarl from Tailand, Danijela Piculjan from Croatia, Vedia Okutan from Northern Cyprus, Brad Tailor and Kerri Tailor from USA. Every year, substantial people who contributed to the art and education life of our country are invited as Honorary Guests and this year they are photography artist İbrahim Demirel, Assist. Prof. Yüksel Öcal who has put great effort on the establishment of the Department of Ceramics, Prof. Bilgehan Uzuner who contributed highly on preparations of international ceramic activities, and connoisseur lecturer of ceramic art Tüzüm Kızılcan. The Macsabal Wood Firing Symposiums, held with full attendance of scholars and students of Department of Ceramics, not only strengthened the educational and intercultural collaborations, but also with significant contemporary artworks it contributed to the art collection of our university. At least one artwork of internationally acknowledged invited artists gets included to the Hacettepe Art Museum collection and with every symposium the collection enriches. In total 73 invited artists participated to the Macsabal Wood Firing Symposiums held in 2011, 2012 and These symposiums become center of attention in the circle of ceramics and many ceramic artist and student from outside of Ankara visited our university and participated to our events. Beyond being a symposium, with various activities, Macsabal gathered the ceramic community; ceramic installations changed the face of our faculty, and firing shows presented left unforgettable memories. This grand activity, which takes place in South Korea, China and in our country successively within the year, become a lasting and well-known organization where we can share our deep-rooted ceramic history and contemporary ceramic works with the world. With their support on Macsabal Wood Firing Symposiums, the Rectorate of Hacettepe University has honored our efforts on constructing a successful Ceramics Department by enabling ceramic artists and students to gather in a strong work environment and by welcoming art, particularly ceramics. Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts mission of; raising modern, creative and free-minded individuals who posses universal understanding and values, and will contribute to the culture of the world by art, has escalated the international art and cultural activities of our university with The Macsabal Wood Firing Symposium held by the Department of Ceramics. On the center of Anatolia (in the capital Ankara), from past to today, ceramics has taken its permanent place in the art
2 scene by being vitalized with its contemporary scenery in today s art platform. The next step will be forwarding the warmth of communication established today to future with preserving and enriching its value. For this, the ceramics displayed in the Hacettepe University Art Museum and in selected spaces within our university, which our artists fingers glided on, and their thoughts and dreams reflected upon, will be forwarded to future as individual values by living and keeping them alive.
