This document serves as a general outline of resources, opportunities and options available to student members of the BC-ABA when exploring career options in behavior analysis. 3 Education Opportunities within British Columbia Many different types of opportunities are available to students who want to learn more about behavior analysis in British Columbia whether it is at an undergraduate or graduate level, or on our soil or through the web. Below is a brief list of such opportunities: Undergraduate Level: On Campus Surrey College Applied Behaviour Analysis Support Workers Certificate ->A requirement to be employed as an ABA Support Worker with the Surrey School District Behaviour Intervention Certificate Disability and Applied Behaviour Analysis Advanced Certification Capilano University Bachelor of Arts and/or Post Bachelor Degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis Graduate Level: On Campus UBC Master of Arts in Special Education (Thesis) Master of Education in Special Education (No-thesis) Doctor of Philosophy in Special Education Online: St. Cloud State University Master of Science in Applied Western University Master of Professional Education in Applied Note: For requirements regarding any of the above educational opportunities, please visit the respective website of each educational institution. 4 Employment Opportunities within British Columbia As we all know, the field of behaviour analysis has applications within a variety of settings. Here in British Columbia, there are many different types of behaviour-analytic opportunities. Currently, employment may be sought with private home teams, local agencies, school districts, and universities. Below is a list of some of the different titles that some within this field hold, along with the type of education, experience, and credentials commonly needed. Behaviour Interventionist Entry level, no experience required. Individuals with this title usually work within homes on privately supervised teams, or through local agencies. Registered Behavior Technician Entry-level certification from the BACB. Requires high school diploma, 40 hours of supervised work experience, and successfully passing the RBT competency assessment. Individuals with this title usually work within homes on privately supervised teams, or through local agencies. Paraprofessionals in the Schools Some school districts within the Greater Vancouver area now employ ABA-specific roles or roles that utilize ABA within classroom settings. Requirements vary from school district to school district. Usually, university level certificates with specific coursework and a number of hours of work experience are required to assume these positions. For more information, contact your local school district. BCaBA Assistant Behavior Analysts This certification from the BACB requires a bachelor degree with specific approved course work, successful completion of the BCaBA exam, and a practicum. Further employment with this designation requires supervision from a behaviour analyst holding the BCBA credential. Individuals with this title usually work within homes on privately supervised teams, or through local agencies. BCBA This certification from the BACB requires a masters degree required with specific approved course work, successful completion of BCBA exam, and a practicum. Individuals with this title usually work within homes on supervising teams, through local agencies, or within universities as instructors or assistant faculty. BCBA-D This certification from the BCBA requires a doctoral degree required with specific approved course work, and active certification as a BCBA. Individuals with this title usually work within homes on supervising teams, through local agencies, within universities as professors and/or researchers, with government/socio-political agencies, and so on.
