5 ICP Program Book, Prof.Mujahid Kamran, PhD Vice Chancellor, University of the Punjab Lahore, Pakistan On behalf of University of Punjab, I take great pleasure in welcoming the honorable guests, attendees and contributors of the 14 th International Conference of Psychology (ICP)which is a joint venture of Pakistan Psychological Association, Institute of Applied Psychology, Center for Clinical Psychology and Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, Pakistan. The conference theme reflects the futuristic vision and dynamic approach this institute has always demonstrated in turning out cutting edge research, producing excellent quality of students and steering ahead in international collaboration and knowledge sharing. I will be following the proceedings of the conference with great interest and encourage the organizers to publish valuable contributions made at this conference. Human Mind is an enigma and scientific investigation of human mental processes provides a challenge unparalleled in any other science. Much insight can be gained in this field through interdisciplinary research as well as by including wisdom from literature, culture and religio-spiritual traditions. Mind as well as heart should be represented in our psychological research. I value the contribution of this field to areas of human wellbeing, mental health, organizational effectiveness and pedagogical sciences. My appreciation of science of human mind and behavior is well known. The global situation calls for a meeting of active researchers in this field to deliberate upon issues of peace and conflict, and explore ways of building bridges and creating think tanks. I hope the scholars from different parts of the world gathered on this occasion will accept this responsibility and meet the challenge our brave new world is offering to psychologists. I extend warmest greeting to our foreign and local guests and hope they will enjoy the hospitality our green campus and lively community will be offering to them.

6 ICP Program Book, Mr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi, PhD Executive Director Higher Education Commission, Pakistan As executive Director of HEC, I am well aware of the dearth of academic conferences held in this country. This International Conference of Psychology is very much needed in this time when all other major academic activities have been withheld due to the security concerns. HEC is making a joint collaboration with Pakistan Psychological Association and Institute of Applied Psychology, Centre for Clinical Psychology of University of the Punjab. I have high hopes from this conference and it is surely going to fulfill our expectations. The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) is an independent, autonomous, and constitutionallyestablished institution of primary funding, overseeing, regulating, and accrediting the higher education efforts in Pakistan. HEC is responsible for formulating higher education policies and quality assurance to meet the international standards as well as providing accredited academic degrees, development of new institutions, and uplift of existing institutions in Pakistan. The HEC also facilitated the development of higher educational system in the country with main purpose of upgrading the universities and colleges in the country to be focal point of the high learning of education, research, and development. Over the course of several years, the HEC played an important and leading role towards building a knowledge based economy in Pakistan by giving out hundreds of doctoral scholarships for education abroad every year. Also, University of the Punjab is currently one of the top ranked universities in Pakistan. I welcome all the participants to this conference with an open heart and wish them a memorable and scholarly experience and wish conference organizers a great success.

13 ICP Program Book, University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan Established in 1882 at Lahore, the University of the Punjab is the largest and the oldest seat of higher learning in Pakistan. It was the first to be established in the sub-continent in Muslim majority area. The fact that two Nobel laureates are from this University speaks volumes for its academic and research excellence.located in the historical and culturally alive city of Lahore, this University has played a leading role in higher education in the country. The University strives to provide a conducive environment for the pursuit of the academic activities. On account of its quality degrees, pleasant environment and low tuition fees the University remains the institution of first choice for admission seeking students. Allama Iqbal Campus, named after the great South Asian thinker and mystic poet, with Islamic architectural design is in the middle of the bustling city of Lahore. Quaid-i-Azam Campus, after the name of the father of the Nation, is located 12 kilometers to the South of Allama Iqbal Campus. Spread over an area of 1800 acres of lush green landscape, this campus is the centre of academic and administrative activities of the University. A canal dividing the academic blocks from the student lodgings and adds to the beauty of the campus. The University has also a summer campus at Khanaspur, located at a height of about 7,000 ft. in the Himalayan range near Ayubia. This Campus, in addition to providing research facilities, is also used as a recreational centre for the faculty and the students. Higher Education Commission In Pakistan the higher education segment has undergone histrionic revival since the creation of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in The Commission was established by Presidential Ordinance on September 11, 2002, on the basis of endorsements of the 'Task Force on Higher Education' that was mandated by the Government of Pakistan to look for ways and means for the promotion of higher education in the country. The Task forces felt that higher education sector was very vital in contributing to sustainable socio-economic development, as well as poverty reduction in Pakistan. The creation of Higher Education Commission was a logical outcome of this process. Since then tangible progress has been made in improving the state of higher education in the country that has also been recognized by the international community. The higher education sector has witnessed great improvements that have deeply transformed the higher education landscape in the country. Change is visible in all the universities and degree awarding institutions in Pakistan. The change is not only physically demonstrated in the refurbished & renovated buildings, new classrooms, new laboratories, computers, digital libraries, sports activities and student facilities, but the research and knowledge seeking has also enhanced. New universities, such as the University of Faisalabad and the University of Sargodha, have risen in the heartland of Pakistan; the Baluchistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences provides state-of-the art IT and management science education to thousands of students, while Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur has a new laboratory and library building. The world over, universities provide education with the first degree imparted after a period of four years. This allows the student to explore and understand related areas, specialize in fundamental subjects while also developing as human being who knows how to use Information technology for future pursuits. In Pakistan too, many institutions and universities have announced four-year honors bachelor's degree programs, in line with the international standards. An impact will only be possible if the reform process that has been initiated is sustained, supported and strengthened.
