It is designed to provide students with the opportunity to synthesize elements oftheir acquired knowledge and skills in the implementation ofa variety education models in nursing education settings. Settings will be selected to further develop students' knowledge and skills as nurse educators. Competence in advanced nursing education is an expectation. III. Justification This course replaces an existing course and the changes delineate the content more specifically and provide a better match ofcurrent knowledge, standards, and practice for advanced nursing practice, as well as general trends in professional practice and nursing education. Additionally these changes ref/ect the recommendations in the 2011 American Association ofcolleges ofnursing, Essentials in Masters Nursing Education document. The title change and course description revision clarifies the content ofthis course.

7 Additional AnnouncementslReguirements with Academic Honesty Statement: Every KSU student is responsible for upholding the provisions ofthe Student Code of Conduct, as published in the Undergraduate and Graduate Catalogs. Section II ofthe Student Code ofconduct addresses the University's policy on academic honesty, including provisions regarding plagiarism and cheating, unauthorized access to University materials, misrepresentation/falsification ofuniversity records or academic work, malicious removal, retention, or destruction of library materials, malicious/intentional misuse ofcomputer facilities and/or services, and misuse of student identification cards. Incidents ofalleged academic misconduct will be handled through the established procedures ofthe University Judiciary Program, which includes either an "informal" resolution by a faculty member, resulting in a grade adjustment, or a formal hearing procedure, which may subject a student to the Code ofconduct's minimum one semester suspension requirement. Preparation for class and active participation in class discussion are expectations. The syllabus may change. Students are responsible for changes in the course and other announcements in class and by . The capacity to receive and check by transferring and receiving electronic files on a regular basis is a requirement. Please refer to the WellStar College ofhealth and Human Services Student Handbook regarding Policy on Bloodbome Pathogens and Academic Honesty. Failure to practice within the Code ofethics for Nurses (American Nurses Association, 2001) will result in failure ofthe course. The Policy and Procedure for withdrawing from the University or a particular class are printed in the KSU Catalog and the KSU Student Handbook. The last day to withdraw from this course without academic penalty is Academic Course Withdrawal Students who find that they cannot continue in the university for the entire semester because of illness or other reason should complete an official withdrawal form. Forms may be obtained from the Office ofthe Registrar. Students who officially withdraw from university with the approval of the University Dean will be assigned grades of"w". This grade will not affect the overall scholastic average. Those students who stop attending classes and notify no one are usually assigned failing grades which jeopardize their chances offuture academic success. Experienced writing assistants work with you throughout the writing process (on concerns such as topic development, revision, research, documentation, grammar, and mechanics) although assistants cannot edit or proofread your paper for you. Appointments are strongly encouraged. For more infonnation or to make an appointment, visit or stop by Room 242 in the English Building. Contact the Writing Center to schedule an "outreach visit." Writing assistants are available to visit classes in all disciplines to encourage student use of services. To schedule a brief outreach, simply your request to writingcenter(ll{kennesaw.edu. Ifa class meets exclusively online, the center would be happy to provide an electronic handout. Disruption of Campus Life It is the purpose ofthe institution to provide a campus environment, which encourages academic accomplishment, personal growth, and a spirit ofunderstanding and cooperation. Guidelines for Specific Course Requirements:
9 1. Class preparation/participation: Students are expected to come to class prepared and to participate in the discussion and class activities. Participation will be evaluated using a rubric, and will include peer evaluation. (Weekly) 2. Curriculum project: The purpose of this project is to critically analyze the components of nursing curriculum. The project will include 4 short papers that address: 1. Analysis ofthe mission and goals of the curriculum. 2. Analysis ofthe curriculum philosophy and/or modevframework 3. Analysis of the curriculum plan based on the AACN Essentials ofbsn education. 4. Analysis ofthe evaluation plan and strategies for measuring outcomes. Critique of the evaluation plan should address the fit ofthe modevframework with the mission and philosophy. 3. Scholarly paper: The final paper for the course is designed to address the change process. For this paper students will select one of the recommendations presented in chapter 13 ofthe Benner, et al book to explore in greater depth. This will involve a literature review on the issue. The paper will address the following points: 1. Introduction and statement ofpurpose. 2. Analysis of the issue based on the literature review. 3. Application ofchange theory in discussion both barriers to change and facilitators of change. 4. Recommendations for moving forward in bringing about the recommended change. Course Outlineffopical Outline: This is a synthesis course, and as such does not have a defined content outline. Students will identify topics they want to explore in greater depth related to the role ofnurse educator. Examples ofsuch content include ethical issues in the classroom and clinical setting, methods for developing simulation activities, leadership in nursing education, or role differentiation in a variety ofnursing education settings.
