Münster is only a few kilometers away from the Netherlands and is an agriculturally oriented region with mostly small industries. Farming, particularly horse farms, dominate the area around Münster. New demands of a more and more complex society made it necessary to create a new profile for places of training. The result was the formation of a unique type of university: the Fachhochschule (University of Applied Sciences). From an amalgamation of publicly and privately owned schools of higher education in engineering and other praxis-oriented institutions, the University of Applied Sciences was founded in Fourth largest University of Applied Sciences in y At the beginning there were a mere 2,300 students, today we are one the largest universities of this type in North-Rhine Westphalia and in y with over,000 students.
