1 HEALTHCARE FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION - FLORIDA CHAPTER ELECTION OF OFFICERS & DIRECTORS To be effective June 1, 2013 The HFMA Florida Chapter s Nominating Committee has met and offers the following slate of Officers and Board Members for your consideration for the Chapter year. Vote online at Board of HFMA FL Bios of Nominees President (no vote needed elected last year) Renee M. Jordan, Esquire Renee Jordan is a partner in the law firm of Bacen & Jordan, P. A., a healthcare recovery law firm with principle offices in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Ms. Jordan has extensive experience in litigating healthcare providers claims in the area of Managed Care, ERISA, Worker s Compensation, Hospital Liens, Probate and Bankruptcy. Ms. Jordan is a current member of the Florida Hospital Association, HFMA and AAHAM. She has served as the Legal Affairs Chair, Director of Policy and Finance, and Secretary to the HFMA Florida chapter. Ms. Jordan is the author of several healthcare reimbursement articles for the HFMA and AAHAM publications. She also regularly lectures at seminars on the topics of third party reimbursement and compliance with State and Federal Statutes. Ms. Jordan is a current Officer for the HFMA Florida Chapter, serving as the current Chapter President-elect. Immediate Past-President (no vote needed, ex officio) Mimi Taylor Mimi Taylor is Corporate VP, IT and Chief Information Officer for Baptist Health South Florida in Coral Gables. Ms. Taylor started her career at Baptist Health in 1991 as Manager of Managed Care and Decision Support Systems in the Finance department. She was promoted to Director of Information Systems in 1993 and in 1994 was promoted into her current role as CIO. She now manages a staff of over five hundred technology professionals and is responsible for the information technology strategic planning, system selection and implementation, process re-engineering, telemedicine, broadcasting, and computer support functions for Baptist Health. She also oversees an annual operating budget of $150 million and an annual capital budget of $50 million. Prior to joining Baptist Health South Florida, Ms. Taylor held computer consulting and auditing positions with the Big 4 firms of Ernst & Young and Coopers & Lybrand. Ms. Taylor received her Bachelors of Arts from Boston College. Ms. Taylor is a member of the College for Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and a graduate fellow of the International Women s Foundation. Ms. Taylor is a current Officer for the HFMA Florida Chapter, serving as the current Chapter President.
2 President-Elect Billie Jean Mounts, FHFMA Billie Jean Mounts is Director, Reimbursement Financial Reporting for Health Management Associates in Naples, Florida and responsible for the oversight of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement for 70 acute care hospitals with approximately 10,500 licensed acute care beds located throughout the United States, including 22 hospitals located in Florida. A member of HFMA since 1999, Ms. Mounts has served the Florida chapter as a member of the board since June Ms. Mounts is a current Board Member for the HFMA Florida Chapter, serving as the current Director of Education / Program Chair, a position she has held for a second year in a row. She has previously served as the Director of Administration, Webmaster, and Communications Co-Chair. She is also serving as the 2013 Dixie Program Chair for Region 5. Ms. Mounts is a Fellow of HFMA and received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. Ms. Mounts has earned the Follmer Bronze and received the President s award by the Florida Chapter in 2011 and Secretary Cindy Kushner, CPA Cindy Kushner is a Partner with Crowe Horwath LLP with more than 25 years of experience with the Big 4 concentrating in tax and business services to the healthcare industry. Ms. Kushner has served private and publicly held healthcare companies and not-forprofit healthcare organizations, including not-for-profit healthcare systems, physician practice management companies, nursing homes, hospices, durable medical equipment companies, cooperatives, medical staffing companies, multi-national pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Ms. Kushner has been a guest speaker on a number of topics for the Tax Executive Institute (TEI), FICPA, Florida International University classes, and firm-sponsored conferences. In addition to serving on the HFMA Board as South Region Education Director, Cindy is Chairman and Founder of Women Executive Leadership (WEL) for the past 10 years; serves on the United Way of Broward County's Governance Committee; serves on the Advisory Board of National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Florida, and has been a HFMA member since Ms. Kushner is a member of the AICPA; FICPA; and had served on the FICPA Mobility Task Force. She has been a mentor in the Women of Tomorrow program for 7 years mentoring high school students in Broward School System; past board member and treasurer, InterOrganization (ION); past board of director for Florida Venture Forum, and former Ambassador for Diabetes Research Institute Foundation. Ms. Kushner is a current Board Member for the HFMA Florida Chapter, serving as Regional Director, Education South.
3 Treasurer Chris Durkin Chris Durkin has been the VP/Controller of Pavilion Health Services, a subsidiary of Baptist Health in Jacksonville Florida, for the past 12 years. His management and financial responsibilities include a wide range of health care related services, including physician practices, home health, retail pharmacies, ancillary services, property management and a bio-medical equipment company that provides maintenance, repairs and equipment sales across the Southeast. Prior to that he held various Accounting positions where he specialized in Medicare reimbursement, budgeting and business development for Baptist Health, St Vincent s Health System in Jacksonville and Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville. Mr. Durkin has served on the Board of Directors of the HFMA Florida Chapter beginning in 1997 and held the positions of Program Director for North Florida and the State, as well as Plan for Membership. He graduated with an Accounting degree from Queens College in New York City and attended University of North Florida s Coggin College of Business. He is a volunteer on the Accounting Review Committee for the United Way of Northeast Florida and the Baptist Health Foundation Scholarship Committee. Mr. Durkin is a current Officer for the HFMA Florida Chapter, serving as the current Treasurer. Director, Education / Program Chair Mike Bickers Mike Bickers is Vice President of Business Development for DaVincian Technologies, Inc. Mr. Bickers has over 18 years of healthcare revenue cycle sales and management experience. This experience includes workflow process evaluation for hospitals and clinics, as well as sales and marketing of a wide variety of healthcare revenue cycle technology products and services, including denial management and recovery. Mr. Bickers is a former V.P. of Sales for HBS, a Denial Recovery Services firm, and a former Area V.P. of Sales for CareMedic Systems, Inc., responsible for sales of revenue cycle technology and services in the Eastern U.S. Prior to CareMedic, he was the Manager of EDI Services at BlueCross BlueShield of GA where he led an internal and external team responsible for electronic claim submission, electronic remittances, as well as on-line eligibility and referral processes. Mr. Bickers is a current Board Member for the HFMA Florida Chapter, serving as Director of Administration / Sponsorship Chair.
4 Director, Policy and Finance Michael X. Durr, CPA, MHSA Michael X. Durr is Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville, Florida. He is an active C.P.A. in the state of Florida and holds a Master of Accounting degree from Florida State University, Master in Health Service Administration from Barry University and Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from Florida State University. Prior to joining Brooks, Mr. Durr was Director of Finance for South Broward Hospital District, d/b/a Memorial Healthcare System, the nation s fifth largest public hospital system. During his four year tenure there, he oversaw system-wide financial reporting and had financial responsibility for the post-acute care operations within the system. Prior to Memorial, Mr. Durr spent fourteen years at Baptist Health South Florida in various financial and operational roles. Baptist Health South Florida is the largest, notfor-profit health care organization in the region with a reputation for clinical, service and financial excellence. In addition, Mr. Durr worked for Coopers & Lybrand, one of the Big-8 certified public accounting firms at the time, as well as various privately held and publicly traded enterprises. Mr. Durr is a current Board Member for the HFMA Florida Chapter, serving as the current Director, Policy and Finance. Director, Member Services Janet Romano Janet Romano is Corporate Director of Medical Group Revenue Management for Baptist Health South Florida. She is responsible for the revenue cycle for the group s growing number of specialty, primary care and hospitalist practices. Ms. Romano has worked in a leadership role in areas of physician practice management, administrative support, physician integration, and contract management. She served two years as chair of the Registration Committee with the HFMA Florida Chapter (2011, 2012), served with HFMA physician practice task force (2011), and volunteers with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, American Heart Association and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
5 Director, Administration Kristy Summers, CHFP Kristy Summers is Manager of the Revenue Management Quality Assurance department at Orlando Health in Orlando, FL. Ms. Summers and her team of ten analysts are responsible for monitoring the accuracy of patient demographic and insurance information at multiple points along the revenue cycle including scheduling, preregistration, admission, and patient accounting collector follow up/resolution. The team also assists with maintenance of the physician dictionary. Ms. Summers was instrumental in the development of one of the first automated front- end edits tools, and continues to work closely with the vendor to provide that same tool for Orlando Health's physician practices. Ms. Summers has been in healthcare access and quality for over 13 years and a member of HFMA for 7 years. Ms. Summers recently became a CHFP and is in the fourth year of a BS in Healthcare Administration at Columbia Southern University. Ms. Summers is a current Board Member for the HFMA Florida Chapter, serving as Regional Director, Education Central. Regional Director, Education Central Doug Kimes Douglas Kimes is Senior Vice President at Fifth Third Bank managing healthcare relationships the Bank maintains throughout the state of Florida. He is active throughout the state and serves as an advisor to several organizations on financial and related matters. Mr. Kimes earned his BSBA from the University of Missouri-Columbia and currently serves the HFMA Florida Chapter as Director, Member Services. Regional Director, Education - North Ivy L. Bibler Ivy Bibler is Senior Vice President and serves as Senior Client Manager for Bank of America Merrill Lynch s Healthcare and Institutions Group. Her primary responsibility today is the delivery of credit, treasury products and services to large, complex acute care providers. Ms. Bibler joined Bank of America Merrill Lynch in January Ms. Bibler has been involved in not for profit healthcare finance for nearly 20 years, with focus on NFP acute care providers in the Southeast and nationally. Experience includes industry and sector analysis as well as development of bank credit underwriting standards and credit policies. Ms. Bibler serves on the Board of Directors for the HFMA Florida Chapter, as Regional Director, Education North and Chair of the Webinar Committee. She is a regular speaker for HFMA and the Florida Hospital Association. Ms. Bibler received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and MBA from Stetson University. Ms. Bibler pursued post graduate studies in Healthcare Administration at the University of Central Florida
6 Regional Director, Education South Victor Munoz Victor Munoz is a Regional Sales Manager with Meridian Group, a Leasing and Technology company. Mr. Munoz has been in this role for the past two years. Prior to Meridian Group, he was a Vice President with US Bank Equipment Finance for 13 years. He has worked with public and private companies in the Healthcare Industry for the past 16 years assisting them structure financial programs to acquire technology and medical equipment. Mr. Munoz s areas of expertise include development and implementation of Life Cycle Management Programs, IT Strategic Financial Planning & Capital Preservation, Structuring customized lease programs, and Enterprise Health IT Solutions. He is a member of the South Region Education Committee and the Hospitality Committee for the HFMA Florida Chapter. Mr. Munoz received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with double concentrations in International Business and in Finance from California State University San Bernardino. Regional Director, Education - West John Guidroz John Guidroz is a Regional Director for MedCo Services and works with Hospitals and Large Physician groups in the areas of Patient Access and Patient Financial Services. His team of highly regarded professionals frequently speak at HFMA, AAHAM, and ACA meetings, both local and nationally. In addition to being one of the Southeast's premier Early Out Vendors, MedCo also is working on developing new technologies and techniques for increasing private pay revenue earlier in the revenue cycle. Mr. Guidroz is a fast-paced executive that uses team work and technology to help accomplish tasks that at times seems impossible. He attended school at the University of West Florida in Pensacola where he still lives with his wife and two kids. Mr. Guidroz is a current Board Member for the HFMA Florida Chapter, serving as Regional Director, Education West.
