6 Keynote Speaker Frank V. Sacco President and CEO, Memorial Healthcare System Mr. Sacco has served as president and CEO of Memorial Healthcare System since July of He joined Memorial Hospital in 1974, where he held various management and administrative positions before becoming COO in Mr. Sacco received his Master s degree in healthcare management from Florida International University and his Bachelor s degree from the University of Miami. He served as a commissioned officer in the Army Medical Service Corps. In recognition of Mr. Sacco s strong commitment to the community and its residents, Wednesday, June 16, 2010, was proclaimed Frank Sacco Day in Hollywood, Fla., by Mayor Peter Bober on behalf of the Hollywood City Commission. To honor his leadership and vision, the South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners named the new Joe DiMaggio Children s Hospital campus the Frank V. Sacco Campus in July, In April 2012, Mr. Saco was named Humanitarian of the Year by the American Red Cross, South Florida Region. Joanne Aquilina Chief Financial Officer, Bethesda Health Joanne is currently the CFO of Bethesda Health and was previously in the roles of assistant vice president of finance, controller, and assistant controller since Bethesda Healthcare System is the parent company for Bethesda Memorial Hospital, a 401-bed not-for-profit facility in Boynton Beach, Florida. Ms. Aquilina is responsible for the financial operations of the system including but not limited to accounting, budgeting, payroll, accounts payable, patient accounting, reimbursement, decision support, debt financing, cash flow management, investments, medical records, and oversight of the joint venture Home Health Agency. Ms. Aquilina is a member of the hospital s executive council and actively participates in the formulation and oversight of Hospital policies and procedures. Ms. Aquilina also has over 10 years of public accounting experience working for a regional certified public accounting firm with an office in Boca Raton, Florida. 6

7 Annual Healthcare CPE Forum Jim Grigg Partner, Jim Grigg has a passion for the healthcare industry. In his role, he is responsible for managing and growing the Crowe healthcare practice. His experience encompasses over 25 years of healthcare industry involvement. Today, Jim works primarily with hospitals and health systems and their related organizations, such as medical practices, foundations, and joint ventures. He has worked with numerous community and urban hospitals in the Midwest, as well as safety net hospitals in both Chicago and Cleveland. Prior to joining Crowe, Jim was responsible for growing and managing McGladrey s healthcare practice in the Great Lakes Region. In that role, he was responsible for client acceptance, quality reviews, and the growth of the practice. Carlos Hernandez Healthcare Assurance Senior Manager, Carlos joined Crowe in 2011 as the regional lead of the healthcare practice with over 16 years of public accounting and financial management experience primarily focused in the healthcare industry. Carlos provides audit, consulting, accounting, and review services for a variety of healthcare clients. Carlos is currently on the Board of the Alzheimer s Association Central and North Florida Chapter, a member of the FICPA HC Conference committee, and a member of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board s Healthcare Industry Working Group. Cindy Kushner Partner, Cindy has 27 years in public accounting, 24 with Big Four firms, concentrating on tax services to the healthcare industry. She has served private, publicly-held, and not-forprofit healthcare companies, including not-for-profit healthcare systems, physician practice management companies, nursing homes, hospices, durable medical equipment companies, cooperatives, medical staffing companies, pharmaceuticals, and medical device companies. Cindy serves as a board member and South Regional Director of Education, Florida Health Financial Management Association. She is chairman for Women Executive Leadership, Inc.; serves on the Advisory Board of National Association of Corporate Directors in Florida; and served on the Governance Committee for United Way of Broward County. 8 Jodi B. Laurence Partner, Florida Health Law Center Jodi B. Laurence is a board certified health law attorney with extensive healthcare experience and is a founding partner of the Florida Health Law Center. Ms. Laurence has significant experience in all aspects of health law, including the formation of joint ventures and multi-specialty group practices, mergers and acquisitions, contracting, corporate compliance, and fraud and abuse issues. She has represented hospitals, physicians, home health agencies, healthcare corporations, managed care entities, and nursing homes. Ms. Laurence has been an adjunct professor with Nova Southeastern University s Institute of Continuing Management for Health Care Professionals and has lectured frequently on healthcare law. She is an active member of the American Health Lawyers Association, and is a member of the Executive Council of the Health Law Section of the Florida Bar. She organized and lectured at the Health Law Certification Review Course from She has achieved the highest AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Lea McLaughlin Tax Manager, Baptist Health Care Lea McLaughlin is a tax manager at Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, Fla., and oversees the major tax functions of the healthcare system. Before joining the Baptist team in 2009, Lea worked for more than five years in public accounting and participated in various nonprofit tax focus groups. Lea volunteers with various organizations in the community including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Pathways for Change, and Pensacola Young Professionals. Jonathan Marks Partner, Jonathan Marks, CPA, CFE, CFF is a partner and fraud, ethics, and anti-corruption services leader within the risk services group of. In his role, Jonathan advises engagement teams and clients on a wide range of capital markets activities, which includes but is not limited to corporate governance, internal audit, risk management, fraud, SEC compliance and regulatory matters, and other areas relating to accounting, auditing, and financial reporting, including IFRS. Prior to joining Crowe, Jonathan was co-owner of a national consulting practice where he directed the firm s SEC, technical accounting, governance, internal audit, risk management, fraud, quality assurance review, and education/training practices. Jonathan also has more than 15 years of experience in public accounting (Big Four) and internal audit. He spent six years in private industry serving in the chief operating and financial officer role. 8

9 Annual Healthcare CPE Forum Alexandra Mores CEO, Advisory Financial Group Alexandra Mores is the founding partner and chief executive officer of Advisory Financial Group. In 2010, Alex was honored by Business Leader Magazine as one of the Top 50 Entrepreneurs in South Florida for having successfully established a premiere consulting firm. With more than 12 years as a successful entrepreneur and over 22 years as a professional services provider, Alex has provided a wide array of specialized consulting services to more than 250 companies in the South Florida market, as well as their domestic and international subsidiaries. Prior to establishing the consulting firm, Alex worked with Ernst & Young in their audit and assurance practice for 11 years. Her technical knowledge in third party reimbursements, revenue recognition, and a variety of other topics has made her a sought after advisor to top management, audit committees, and boards of directors. Alex s experience in the healthcare industry includes a variety of segments including hospitals, medical service providers, clinical trial/lab facilities, medical device manufactures, HMOs, and medical staffing firms. Alex has a Bachelor of Arts from Hood College and completed the advanced studies in accounting from Old Dominion University. She became a CPA in Matthew Muhart Executive Vice President Finance and CFO, Memorial Healthcare System Matt Muhart started his professional career in 1988 at the Miami office of Ernst & Young where his primary clients were healthcare related entities. At the conclusion of his eighth year at the firm, he accepted the corporate controller position at the South Florida Division office of HCA. After approximately two years with HCA, he joined Memorial Healthcare System as the director of finance in Two years later, he was promoted to CFO. Today, he serves as executive vice president and CFO. He has responsibility over a number of areas including financial reporting, information technology, revenue cycle management, supply chain management, health information management, treasury, process improvement, and the enterprise project management office. 10 Ron Ralph Partner, Ron is a partner in the Crowe healthcare practice. He joined Crowe in 1987 after graduating from St. Joseph s College. He is involved in healthcare finance/regulatory serving health systems, physician group practices, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging centers, revenue cycle/transaction processing organizations, biotech, healthcare services, and managed care organizations in public and private, for-profit and not-for-profit settings. Ron is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois and Indiana CPA societies, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. David Sierra Assistant Director, Reimbursement, Memorial healthcare System David Sierra is assistant director of reimbursement for Memorial Healthcare System (MHS) in Hollywood, Fla. Previous to joining MHS, David held directorship and managerial positions in the healthcare consulting divisions of Johnson & Johnson and Ernst & Young. David is an advanced member of the HFMA and has held several leadership positions in the Florida Chapter over the years including editor-in-chief of Sunspots, program chair, and chapter president. David attained his CPA certification in 1992 and the HFMA s Muncie Gold Merit award in In addition to his responsibilities at MHS, David is an active volunteer in many fundraising and community outreach activities including the Memorial Classic Auction and the Memorial Foundation s annual Radiothon to benefit Joe DiMaggio s Children s Hospital. Laura A. Stevenson Manager of Corporate Accounting, Martin Health Mrs. Stevenson joined Martin Health System in 1998, her responsibilities include direct supervision of accounts payable and general ledger. She received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master s in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University. She holds a CPA license in the State of Florida. Mrs. Stevenson is a member of the Florida Institute of CPAs and a member of Healthcare Financial Management Association. 10

11 Annual Healthcare CPE Forum Esther Surujon CFO, Memorial Physician Group Esther Surujon is currently the CEO of the Memorial Health Network and the CFO for the Memorial Physician Group. During her career in healthcare, Esther has worked very closely with physicians and hospital systems to promote and design integrated healthcare delivery models. In 2004, she created and operated one of the first physician-owned managed care organizations in Florida. Currently, Esther is responsible for the operational and financial management and growth of Memorial s clinically integrated PHO and the approximate 130 employed physicians group. Esther received her Master s of Business Administration from the University of Miami and maintains an active CPA license from the State of Florida. Brittney Wing Tax Manager, Brittney Wing is a manager in the Crowe tax group in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Brittney has spent a majority of her career providing tax compliance and consulting services to tax-exempt organizations including healthcare organizations such as hospital systems, hospices, continuing care retirement communities, and skilled nursing facilities. Brittney also serves colleges and universities, membership organizations, private foundations, and various other not-for-profit organizations. Jack Wolf Director, Mr. Wolf has over 24 years of experience in the healthcare industry and has developed extensive knowledge of the industry s financial, accounting, and business processes including managed care operations and contracting, negotiations, product development and management, and a wide variety of business development and strategy issues. Mr. Wolf is a board member of Mercy Health Services in Frankllin, TN a not-for-profit organization, a former board member of Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee, a former member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and a former fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
