2 visionapp Server Management 2008 R2 SP1: New functions for extended efficiency and security Cutting the costs of comprehensive server and hosted desktop management > Client management Due to the management integration of physical or virtual clients within the corporate network, the delivery and administration of complete IT infrastructures consisting of servers and desktops can now be automated. > Extended power-saving functions visionapp Power Saving provides additional functions which automatically monitor system utilization using the available guidelines. In conjunction with the time control templates on the server level, this substantially simplifies the administration of individual tasks. Packages and packaging for efficient implementation > Automated patch download Using visionapp Server Management, Microsoft security updates for applications and operating systems may be downloaded automatically and transferred to packages for distribution. This ensures that the centralized infrastructure s security standards remain up-to-date with minimal user interaction. > Integrated software packaging solution The integration of a new software packaging module (visionapp Package Designer) in visionapp Server Management eliminates the need for an additional, third-party-software packaging product. The visionapp Package Designer is a fully-featured packaging tool that provides full integration of a further key element of automated target system delivery. Flexible, reliable installation and administration of target systems > Scheduled installation of target systems In addition to the already available scheduled installation of new software components, full installations of target systems can now also be scheduled. With detailed advanced planning, this allows individual systems or even whole farms to be automatically installed outside office hours or overnight. > Distribution release health check The existing functions have been expanded with pre-installation inconsistency checks, a detailed installation preview and an automated health check of all distribution releases. These new functions provide administrators with a simple possibility to identify and solve problems before the actual installation is performed, which saves time and resources needed for redeploying problem installations. > Enhanced Windows Deployment Service (WDS) 1

3 > Microsoft WDS integration enhances operating system deployment The integration of Microsoft WDS (included free of charge with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 from Service Pack 2 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008) allows the installation of both server and client operating systems. Extended functionality for partitioning, time control of installations, creation of unicast or multicast installations, including at farm-level, support of client operating systems and installation logs with job history simplify the operational processes. > Simplified and enhanced administration DHCP support for Windows Vista and Windows Server Backup and recovery of computers without Sysprep. Enhanced and improved logging with hints for faster troubleshooting. > Enhanced administration of multiple envionments Support of unlimitied PXE-services within one environment/subnet. ITIL-conformance for audit trail and reproducibility > Extended Release Management Within visionapp Server Management the ITIL processes can be configured in such a way as to prevent, for example, the omission of a release approval level. Through a built-in compare function, changes within any level can furthermore be retraced at any time. This ensures a simple yet reliable transfer and deployment of complete releases. Central administration of distributed and large-scale environments > Individual server roles with tailored configurations The option of defining different roles, each with their own set of parameters, and assigning these to specific servers, allows administrators to map the exact required server roles. This considerably simplifies the configuration of new servers with standardized parameters. > Multi drag & drop in the infrastructure view The ability to drag and drop multiple servers completely with their assigned roles between different farms at the same time allows an efficient reorganization within the internal infrastructure. Optimization of Microsoft and Citrix environments > Support for Citrix XenApp 5.0 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Support for the latest products and versions from Microsoft and Citrix such as MS SQL Server 2008 and Citrix XenApp 5.0 guarantee a reliable, stable operation of Application Delivery infrastructures now and in 2

4 Further new functions > Enhanced Citrix Provisioning Server Support > Integration and expansion of the Citrix Provisioning Server The Citrix Provisioning Server functions have been expanded to include a standardized, traceable and reproducible creation of master images. In addition, integrated release and change management functions are now also available for the Citrix Provisioning Server. Further, newly integrated features include various management functions for scheduled deployment and adaptation of target systems and for configuring and publishing applications. > Deployment of Citrix XenApp Provisioning Deployment of Citrix XenApp Provisioning directly from the visionapp Application Delivery Management- console, incl.
