1 TTLT COMENIUS TTLT Teach Together, Learn Together MEETING IN VIMPELI MARCH 6 th - 10 th 2013 Participants: Milan 4 teachers, 3 students; Loches 2 teachers, 10 students; Murcia 3 teachers; Alajärvi 3 teachers, 5 students; Vimpeli 13 teachers, 37 students Wednesday 6 th Arrival at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport Janne Visto and Juha-Pekka Anttila to meet partner schools at the airport Departure for Vimpeli (total price for the bus journey Helsinki Airport Vimpeli airport is about 2000, about 90 per person) During the bus ride we ll go through the program, tell something about Finland and have a dinner at a cafeteria (self-financed) Arrival at Vimpeli, accommodation in host families and cottages Thursday 7 th 8.30 Welcome! Presenting Vimpeli, the school, students and staff in the auditorium 9.20 Partner schools presentation (about 20 mins per school) Presenting school premises (by students) Lunch at school canteen (free) Tour of Vimpeli by bus (free) Return to host families

2 16.00 Skiing, riding on a sled, snowshoing, downhill skiing at Lakeakarju (host families provide the journey there) (Downhill skiing costs 34, including the equipment and a ski pass, other activities free) Return to host families and to school (by host families) Dinner and get-together at school for teachers and students Return to host families Friday 8 th 8.30 Comenius meeting for teachers Current matters, feedback concerning the lessons held so far, schedule for lessons to be held, etc. Students follow lessons with their host students Lunch at school canteen (free) Departure for Ähtäri and Tuuri by bus (fare about 20 per person) Visiting Ähtäri Zoo (Wildlife Park) (entrance fee 9, teachers free) Departure for Tuuri Shopping in Finland s biggest village shop in Tuuri Departure for Vimpeli Back at host families Sauna and ice swimming in the lake for teachers (optional!), afterwards having a light meal at school a chance to prepare ethnic cuisine Saturday 9 th Ice fishing and fishing with a net on frozen Lake Lappajärvi (weather allowing) Back at host families Basketball A-girls (aged 16-18) Finnish Championship League Vimpeli vs. Turku. Students staying with their hosts for the rest of the evening Teachers visiting the Birth of Lake Lappajärvi exhibition, dinner at the restaurant Kivitippu (self-financed), bus leaving at Sunday 10 th 8.00 Departure for Helsinki Airport from the school Arrival at the airport (stop at Tikkurila at 13.45) Flights back home or 8,05 Monday Italian team back to Milan

The Italian Principal, Paola the Vice-Principal the teachers Gabriella and Maria Grazia thank Vimpeli Principal and staff for the warm hospitality received. Anita and the other colleagues were so kind and as hosts we felt so familiar like our students; thanks at all, we have learnt a lot from you and your kindness. We hope to do the same in November 2013!

5 Comenius meeting diary by Giorgio Tromboni Wednesday 7 th march 2013 We left at nine in the morning from Milan Malpensa Airport to Helsinki where we arrived at 3,30 pm. Waiting at the airport for the arrival of the French Students with their professors and French professors, I had a look around the airport. When they arrived at 4 pm, we went to Vimpeli by bus and after six hours in a snow storm, we met the families who hosted every component of the Italian team.i was hosted by Jonas and his family. His family was composed by him and his mother Piia, a teacher in primary school,his father Vesa an electrician, his sister Jenni and his little brother Eto. Thursday 8 th March In the morning, we went to school where we met all Finnish students and all the students and professors from foreign countries (France and Spain). Every studentof the different teams introduced hispower Point or movie in which he spoke of their school or in their city. After lunch in the school canteen, we visited the whole school and then we came back to the host families. Around four pm, the boys took us skiing and some teens practiced cross-country skiing or ski. I preferred avoiding skiing, but I walked around the woods that were nearby at -15. In the evening we returned to the families and I and Jonas, my host guy went out to meet some friends. Friday 9 th March The following morning we returned to school, where we took part to the lessons of the Finnish teens and after lunch at the school canteen we went to the zoo then we went shopping at a mall near Vimpeli In the evening at school, we witnessed a performance of prom dance played by the Finnish wearing long dresses and smart suits. We had dinner in the various tables scattering in order to know many more students. Jokes and laughter created a friendly atmosphere then back home. Saturday 10 th March Saturday morning we all went to fish in the frozen lake and we saw the different fishing techniques realized by the Finnish. We all enjoyed a lot and each one took at least one fish, we were also a lot of people, myself included, decided to tour on the snowmobile. in the afternoon some little boys and even I went to see a women's basketball game and finally in the evening we had a farewell party among students Sunday 12 th March Sunday morning we went with our families to school where we waited for the bus that would bring us to Helsinki. After about 4 hours we left our partners French and Spanish and went to visit Helsinki as our flight

6 was going to leave early in the morning then we had dinner in an Italian restaurant near our hotel. The next morning at 6 am we were at the airport to take the plane back to Milan to meet our families. this experience was great because in addition to getting to know new guys like me, also gave me the opportunity to coach my spoken English and see how it really is the landscape (green in spring and summer and white in the fall and winter) and discover cultures different from each other but nevertheless fantastice. I would like to thank my school and the Comenius project for this opportunity for cultural exchange and I would also like to thank the professors in particular Professor Ms. Maria Grazia Cupini and Finnish family who welcomed me with affection between them.
