1 FIRING RANGE PHASE 1 DESIGN SECTION PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. This Section includes the following emergency plumbing fixtures: 1. Emergency showers. 2. Eyewash equipment. 3. Eye/face wash equipment. 4. Combination units. 5. Water-tempering equipment. B. Related Sections include 1. Specification Section "Plumbing Specialties" for backflow preventers and floor drains. 1.3 DEFINITIONS A. Accessible Fixture: Emergency plumbing fixture that can be approached, entered, and used by people with disabilities; and is compliant with the Texas Accessibility Standards. B. Plumbed Emergency Plumbing Fixture: Fixture with fixed, potable-water supply. C. Self-Contained Emergency Plumbing Fixture: Fixture with flushing-fluid-solution supply. D. Tepid: Moderately warm. 1.4 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For each type of product indicated. Include flow rates and capacities, furnished specialties, and accessories. B. Shop Drawings: Diagram power, signal, and control wiring. C. Product Certificates: Submit certificates of performance testing specified in "Source Quality Control" Article
2 FIRING RANGE PHASE 1 DESIGN D. Field quality-control test reports. E. Operation and Maintenance Data: For emergency plumbing fixtures to include in maintenance manuals. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, Article 100, by testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, and marked for intended use. B. ANSI Standard: Comply with ANSI Z358.1, "Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment." C. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with requirements in ICC A117.1, "Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities"; Public Law , "Architectural Barriers Act"; and Public Law , "Americans with Disabilities Act"; for plumbing fixtures for people with disabilities. D. D. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with requirements in the Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS), Architectural Barriers Act, Article 9102, Texas Civil Statutes. E. NSF Standard: Comply with NSF 61, "Drinking Water System Components--Health Effects," for fixture materials that will be in contact with potable water. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A. Product descriptions hereinafter represent minimum requirements for each fixture; refer to Basis-of-Design manufacturer and model number listed on the drawing Plumbing Fixture Schedule for additional features, construction details, accessories and/or options. 2.2 EMERGENCY SHOWERS A. Emergency Showers: indicated on Drawings or a comparable product by one of a. Encon Safety Products. b. Guardian Equipment Co. c. Haws Corporation. d. Speakman Company. 2. Description: Plumbed, multiple-spray emergency shower with small shower heads or nozzles
3 FIRING RANGE PHASE 1 DESIGN a. Capacity: Deliver potable water at rate not less than 20 gpm (76 L/min.) for at least 15 minutes. b. Supply Piping: NPS 1-1/4 (DN 32) minimum galvanized steel with flow regulator and stay-open control valve. 2.3 EYEWASH EQUIPMENT A. Eyewash Equipment: b. Chicago Faucets. c. Encon Safety Products. d. Guardian Equipment Co. e. Haws Corporation. 2. Description: Plumbed, accessible, free-standing or wall-mounting eyewash equipment with receptor. Refer to basis-of-design product model number for additional requirements. a. Capacity: Deliver potable water at rate not less than 0.4 gpm (1.5 L/min.) for at least 15 minutes. b. Supply Piping: NPS 1/2 (DN 15) chrome-plated brass or stainless steel with flow regulator and stay-open control valve. c. Drain Piping: NPS 1-1/4 (DN 32) minimum, chrome-plated brass, receptor drain, P-trap, waste to wall, and wall flange complying with ASME A EYE/FACE WASH EQUIPMENT A. Eye/Face Wash Equipment: b. Encon Safety Products. c. Guardian Equipment Co. d. Haws Corporation. e. Speakman Company. 2. Description: Plumbed, freestanding or wall-mounting, eye/face wash equipment

Supply Piping: NPS 1/2 (DN 15) chrome-plated brass or stainless steel with flow regulator and stay-open control valve. c. Drain Piping: NPS 1-1/4 (DN 32) minimum, chrome-plated brass, receptor drain, P-trap, waste to wall, and wall flange complying with ASME A ; or include galvanized-steel indirect connection to drainage system, as indicated on drawings. 2.5 COMBINATION UNITS A. Combination Units: b. Encon Safety Products. c. Guardian Equipment Co. d. Haws Corporation. e. Speakman Company. 2. Description: Plumbed, accessible, freestanding, with emergency shower and eyewash or eye/face wash equipment. a. Piping: Galvanized steel. 1) Unit Supply: NPS 1-1/4 (DN 32) minimum. 2) Unit Drain: Outlet at side near bottom. 3) Shower Supply: NPS 1 (DN 25) with flow regulator and stay-open control valve. 4) Eyewash or Eye/Face Wash Supply: NPS 1/2 (DN 15) with flow regulator and stay-open control valve. b. Shower Capacity: Deliver potable water at rate not less than 20 gpm (76 L/min.) for at least 15 minutes. 1) Control-Valve Actuator: Pull rod. 2) Shower Head: 8-inch (200-mm) minimum diameter. c. Eyewash Equipment: With capacity to deliver potable water at rate not less than 0.4 gpm (1.5 L/min.) for at least 15 minutes. d. Eye/Face Wash Equipment: With capacity to deliver potable water at rate not less than 3.0 gpm (11.4 L/min.) for at least 15 minutes
5 FIRING RANGE PHASE 1 DESIGN WATER-TEMPERING EQUIPMENT A. Water-Tempering Equipment: b. Encon Safety Products. c. Haws Corporation. d. Lawler Manufacturing Co., Inc. e. Leonard Valve Company. f. Powers, a Watts Industries Co. g. Speakman Company. 2. Description: Factory-fabricated, hot- and cold-water-tempering equipment with thermostatic mixing valve. a. Thermostatic Mixing Valve: Designed to provide 85 deg F (29 deg C) tepid, potable water at emergency plumbing fixtures, to maintain temperature at plus or minus 5 deg F (3 deg C) throughout required 15-minute test period, and in case of unit failure to continue cold-water flow, with union connections, controls, metal piping, and corrosion-resistant enclosure. 2.7 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL A. Certify performance of plumbed and self-contained emergency plumbing fixtures by independent testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine roughing-in for water and waste piping systems to verify actual locations of piping connections before plumbed emergency plumbing fixture installation. 1. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 EMERGENCY PLUMBING FIXTURE INSTALLATION A. Assemble emergency plumbing fixture piping, fittings, control valves, and other components. B. Install fixtures level and plumb. C. Fasten fixtures to substrate
6 FIRING RANGE PHASE 1 DESIGN D. Install shutoff valves in water-supply piping to fixtures. Use ball, gate, or globe valve if specific type valve is not indicated. Install valves chained or locked in open position if permitted. Install valves in locations where they can easily be reached for operation. Valves are specified in Specification Section "Valves." 1. Exception: Omit shutoff valve on supply to group of plumbing fixtures that includes emergency plumbing fixture. 2. Exception: Omit shutoff valve on supply to emergency equipment if prohibited by authorities having jurisdiction. E. Install shutoff valve and strainer in steam piping and shutoff valve in condensate return piping. F. Install dielectric fitting in supply piping to fixture if piping and fixture connections are made of different metals. Dielectric fittings are specified in Specification Section "Basic Mechanical Materials and Methods." G. Install thermometers in supply and outlet piping connections to water-tempering equipment. Thermometers are specified in Specification Section "Meters and Gages." H. Install trap and waste to wall on drain outlet of fixture receptors that are indicated to be directly connected to drainage system. I. Install indirect waste piping to wall on drain outlet of fixture receptors that are indicated to be indirectly connected to drainage system. Drainage piping is specified in Specification Section "Sanitary Waste and Vent Piping." J. Install escutcheons on piping wall and ceiling penetrations in exposed, finished locations. Escutcheons are specified in Specification Section "Basic Mechanical Materials and Methods." K. Install equipment nameplates or equipment markers on fixtures and equipment signs on water-tempering equipment. Identification materials are specified in Specification Section "Mechanical Identification." 3.3 CONNECTIONS A. Piping installation requirements are specified in other Specification Sections. Drawings indicate general arrangement of piping, fittings, and specialties. B. Connect cold-water-supply piping to plumbed emergency plumbing fixtures not having watertempering equipment. C. Connect hot- and cold-water-supply piping to hot- and cold-water-tempering equipment. Connect output from water-tempering equipment to emergency plumbing fixtures. D. Connect cold-water and steam supply and condensate return piping to steam and cold-watertempering equipment. Connect output from water-tempering equipment to emergency plumbing fixtures
7 FIRING RANGE PHASE 1 DESIGN E. Directly connect emergency plumbing fixture receptors with trapped drain outlet to sanitary drainage and vent piping. F. Indirectly connect emergency plumbing fixture receptors without trapped drain outlet to sanitary or storm drainage piping. G. Ground equipment according to Specification Section "Grounding and Bonding." 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Mechanical-Component Testing: After plumbing connections have been made, test for compliance with requirements. Verify ability to achieve indicated capacities and temperatures. B. Repair or replace malfunctioning units. Retest as specified above after repairs or replacements are made. C. Report test results in writing. 3.5 ADJUSTING A. Adjust or replace fixture flow regulators for proper flow. B. Adjust equipment temperature settings. END OF SECTION
