1 Healthy Living Commitment Nutrition Guidelines Australia and New Zealand
2 Introduction Disney recognises that its iconic stories and characters offer a unique platform to connect and engage with families. Through compelling and creative content, experiences and useful tools, Disney is committed to helping parents make nutritious eating and physical activity more appealing and fun for kids. Ten years ago, The Walt Disney Company North America made a decision to inspire children and their families to lead healthier lives through the Healthy Living Commitment. Disney was the first major media company to establish nutrition guidelines with leading experts and set benchmarks to regulate food and beverage advertising on its channels. In addition, Disney has invested in health-oriented content and community-based projects that help promote increased physical activity and healthier choices for families. Recently Australia and New Zealand became part of a global expansion by The Walt Disney Company of the Healthy Living Commitment. As part of the commitment a localised version of the nutrition guidelines was established with experts, standards were set for food and beverage advertising and licensing, and a commitment was made to increase health-orientated programming and activity. Initial activity for the Healthy Living Commitment has included a partnership with The Australian Women s Weekly to create a beautiful and functional cookbook, Disney Healthy Family Eating. There has also been new, health orientated content developed for kids and their families including the series BF Chef and Dishes Inspired by Disney, along with web based tools and activity. For over 90 years The Walt Disney Company has been inspiring families through storytelling, imagination and play. The Healthy Living Commitment in Australia and New Zealand is the beginning of a new focus to also inspire healthier lifestyles.
