CHAPTER 3 Installing CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Software This chapter provides information about installing the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning (CCNSC SP) software. Before you begin the installation process, be sure the system requirements have been met, as described in the System Requirements section on page 1-4, and the preinstallation tasks have been performed, as described in Chapter 2, Preinstallation Tasks. The following topics are described in this chapter: CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Software Installation section on page 3-1 Complete Provisioning Installation section on page 3-2 Distributed Provisioning Installation section on page 3-2 Complete CCNSC SP Server and Client Installation section on page 3-3 Distributed CCNSC SP Client Installation section on page 3-8. CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Software Installation The CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning software is made up of Servers and a Client. The software is available as two distinct packages: CSCOcnscs CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Server and Client software CSCOcnscc CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Client only software. These packages are available on the product CD. A command line interface is available to do some operations, however, most operations are done through a graphical user interface (GUI). CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning supports single machine (simple) or multiple machine (distributed) installation options. When you install the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning software, you can select from the following options: Complete Provisioning System installs all of the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Servers (Provisioning Service, Provisioning Utilities, and Telnet Gateway) and the CCNSC Subscriber ProvisioningClient software on a single machine Client Provisioning System (GUI) installs only the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Client software Provisioning Services installs only the Provisioning Service server software 3-1

CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Software Installation Chapter 3 Provisioning Utilities installs only the Provisioning Utilities server software Telnet Gateway installs only the Telnet Gateway server software. Unless you have a very powerful machine, it is highly recommended that you do not install multiple CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning components on the same machine as performance will be degraded. Complete Provisioning Installation In a complete CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning software installation, the CCNSC SP Servers (Provisioning Services, Provisioning Utilities, and Telnet Gateway) and CCNSC SP Client software are installed on the same machine. To achieve this configuration, select the Complete Provisioning System installation option. You should do things in the following order: 1. Invoke the ccnscinstall script, then select the Complete Provisioning System installation option to install the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Server and Client software. 2. Start the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Servers. 3. Start the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Client GUI. Distributed Provisioning Installation In a distributed CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning software installation, the Provisioning Services, Provisioning Utilities, and multiple Telnet Gateway servers, as well as, multiple CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Clients, can be installed on multiple machines, in various configurations. For example, you can elect to do the following: install all of the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning servers and CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Client(s) on separate machines install the Provisioning Services on one machine, the Provisioning Utilities on a separate machine, the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Client on a separate machine, and optionally, multiple Telnet Gateway servers on other machines, and multiple CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Clients on yet other machines install the Provisioning Services, Provisioning Utilities, and a Telnet Gateway server on one machine, additional Telnet Gateway servers on separate machines, and multiple CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Clients other machines. As you can see, you have multiple options at your disposal. The deciding factors when determining how you are going to install the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning components are the number of machines you have available and the amount of memory and disk space available on each of the machines. The following is an example of a distributed installation using multiple machines. The machines are called Machine1, Machine2, Machine3, Machine4, and Machine5. Install the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning components in following order: 1. On Machine1, invoke the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning installation script (ccnscinstall), then choose the Provisioning Utilities option (which also installs a basic Telnet Gateway server). 2. On Machine2, invoke the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning installation script (ccnscinstall), then choose the Provisioning Services installation option. During this installation process, you will specify Machine1 as the machine where the Provisioning Utilities server is located. 3-2

Chapter 3 Complete CCNSC SP Server and Client Installation 3. Start the Provisioning Utilities servers on Machine1. 4. Start the Provisioning Services servers on Machine2. If the CCNSC SP Provisioning Utilities server is not running when you attempt to start the CCNSC SP Provisioning Services server on Machine2, the CCNSC SP Provisioning Services server will not start. 5. On Machine3, invoke the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning installation script (ccnscinstall), then choose the Client Provisioning System (GUI) installation option. 6. After the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Client server installation completes, start the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Client GUI on Machine3. 7. On Machine4, invoke the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning installation script (ccnscinstall), then choose the Telnet Gateway installation option. This installs an independent/standalone Telnet Gateway server on Machine4. 8. On Machine5, invoke the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning installation script (ccnscinstall), then choose the Telnet Gateway installation option. This installs an independent/standalone Telnet Gateway server on Machine5. Steps 7 and 8 are required only if you wish to install additional Telnet Gateway servers. You can install separate instances of the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Client servers and Telnet Gateway servers on multiple machines. Complete CCNSC SP Server and Client Installation This option installs all of the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning servers (Provisioning Services, Provisioning Utilities, and Telnet Gateway) and Client server on the same machine. Before You Begin Install the Oracle database on either a local system or a remote system. The Oracle database is made up of a server and a client. The Oracle Client must always be installed on the same machine as the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Server. The recommended configuration is to install the Oracle Server on a remote machine and the Oracle Client on the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Server machine. However, if you will be installing the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning software and Oracle database on the same machine, you must increase the machine s memory. Gather the following information prior to invoking the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning installation script: CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning product source directory of the ccnscinstall program the installation directory where you want to install the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning product your Oracle product information (home, SID, user name, and user password) UNIX root password installer s user login and group names (this information can be obtained by using the id command at the command line prompt) 3-3

Complete CCNSC SP Server and Client Installation Chapter 3 Procedure local host name network domain name. Step 1 Insert the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning CD in your CD-ROM drive. If your system does not have an automounted CD-ROM, you will need to mount it manually. For information about mounting the CD-ROM manually, see Mounting CD-ROM Manually section on page 2-9. You cannot run the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning installation script as root. Step 2 Run the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning installation script: cd /<device>./ccnscinstall where <device> is the device name of the CD-ROM drive. This script allows you to install the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning software in a location other than the default locations (/opt/cscocnscs for the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Server and /opt/cscocnscc for the CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Client). A symbolic link to the actual location will be created automatically. You can terminate the installation script by typing Ctrl-c. The CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning installation script is started and the installation options, as shown in Figure 3-1, are displayed. Figure 3-1 CCNSC SP Installation Script Step 3 Option 1) Complete Provisioning System is the default, press Return to select this option. 3-4

CCNSC Server Hostname: In a simple installation architecture, this is the hostname of the CCNSC SP Server. In a distributed installation architecture, this is the hostname for the CCNSC SP Provisioning Services. Provisioning Utilities Hostname: In a simple installation architecture, this is the hostname of the CCNSC SP Server. In a distributed installation architecture, this is the hostname for the CCNSC SP Provisioning Utilities. Network Domain Name: The domain name for the ACT server so it can append to the machine s name and be resolved to the full name. This has nothing to do with the domain name referenced by the Network Inventory Manager. Use PPP Authentication: If yes, this enables the PPP authentication option within the VoIP protocol and its associated templates. This does not mean that Cisco Access Registrar (CAR) will do PPP authentication unless yes is specified in the Cisco AR? field. Cisco AR?: If yes, this enables the Subscriber Access Manager to create and delete users and domains in CAR. This is associated with the Service Manager CORBA Server. See Appendix B, Cisco Access Registrar Configuration, for detailed information. If no, the CAR feature is disabled in the Network Inventory Manager. Cisco NR?: If yes, this enables the optional auto-assign address check button and then adds it to the specified DNS server. This is associated with the Resource Manager CORBA Server. See Appendix C, Cisco Network Registrar Configuration, for detailed information. If no, the CNR feature is disabled in the Network Inventory Manager. Enable IE2100?: If yes, the ProvisionBehaviorMgr looks for the Tibco daemon (rvd or rvrd) and enables the Cisco IE2100 download option within the VoIP provisioning window for CPE auto-provisioning. If no, this option is disabled. 3-11

CCNSC Subscriber Provisioning Installation Window Components Chapter 3 Configuration SYNC IE2100?: If yes, this enables the configuration synchronization between the CPE and the Cisco IE2100 during a modify provisioning operation. The Enable IE2100 field described above must also be enabled (y) for this feature to work. If no, this option is disabled. 3-12
