Location: Studentcentrum, Matrosgatan 1 see no. 2 on map at the back Thursday, 18 August 10:00 12:00 Welcome Meeting Location: Orkanen D138, Nordenskiöldsgatan 10 see no. 4 on map at the back Welcome to this introductory session where we will provide you with information to get you started at Malmö University as well as in Malmö and Sweden. You will meet the staff of the International Office and representatives from the Student Union and Erasmus Student Network while also getting a glimpse of what lies ahead during the next few weeks. 12:00 13:30 Meet some of the student organisations / Buy your Skåne Bus Tour tickets Location: Orkanen, Lobby Meet with the Student Union and take the chance to chat with their different organisations. Maybe you ll get some ideas on what to do with your spare time while in Malmö. You can also buy your membership to the different organisations. After the Welcome Meeting you have the chance to buy a ticket for the Skåne Bus Tour, which is one of the activities of the Introduction Programme (200 SEK). Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. 13:30-14:00 Swedish Language Course Introduction Meeting point: Niagara, lobby see no. 3 on the map at the back You are about to take an introduction to the Swedish language course. Please note: This course is only for exchange students who have signed up and been accepted in advance! 14:00-15:30 Swedish Language Course Your first Swedish class is off to a flying start! 2 15:45 - late Games Meeting point: Orkanen Lobby Bond with your new fellow students by participating in the Games. Bring comfortable shoes! This is an outdoor activity and we advise you to wear comfortable shoes and clothes. In case of rain, there will be an indoors activity. Friday, 19 August 09:00-12:00 Swedish Language Course Your second Swedish class! Location can be found on the schedule you got from your Swedish teacher on Thursday. 13:00-14:00 Safety and Security Location: Orkanen D138 If any lecture has it all, this one does: Emergency evacuation information, Swedish laws you are probably unaware of, a real police officer. Don t miss it! Trust us; you will want to know what to do if you lock yourself in in a classroom late at night. 16:00-17:30 Welcome Reception hosted by the City of Malmö Location: Old City Hall, Malmö see no. 6 on map at the back Rådhuset The Mayor and the city of Malmö invite all international students to a welcome reception with drinks, snacks, and a chance to see the inside of the City Hall! Attendance is mandatory if you signed up! Remember to bring your invitation card with you, which you can pick up after the Welcome Meeting. During this tour you will get an introduction to the most important features of the university library. This session will also guide you through the virtual world of Malmö University and teach you how to log onto the university computers, use the printers and much more! This walking tour is one hour-long and will introduce you to the public spaces, shops and markets that are all significant to the residents of Malmö. Hej, Jag heter, Ursäkta att jag är sen! and Vill du fika? 13:00 15:00 Introduction to the Swedish Academic System Location: Gäddan, G124-G125 see no. 1 on map at back Coming from another academic culture, adjusting to the Swedish academic system can be quite difficult. This session gives you an insight into the Swedish university culture, the student-teacher relationship, work and examination forms, and the student s rights and responsibilities essential knowledge for your studies at university. 15:15 - Social Activity TBA Meeting point: TBA This afternoon will be spent together with your fellow students. Hopefully Malmö will offer beautiful weather so you can have a beach bbq. If not you might meet up at Kölsvinet to try some Swedish foods and watch a movie or two. More information will follow! Wednesday, 24 August 13:00 ~ 14:30 Visit to Your Faculty/Department Meeting Point: Orkanen, D138 Meet up with representatives from your faculty/department and familiarize yourself in your new academic surroundings. Please note: Study related information will, in most cases, be given to you at your first day of class. 17:00 - Picnic Meeting point: Outside Triangeln Station (close to the Faculty of Odontology) Bring your own food, drinks and a blanket and meet up with fellow students and in one of Malmö s many beautiful parks, Pildammsparken. Details of where the tour will take you have not yet been decided. More information will follow! Please note: Bring snacks/your own lunch. You can buy tickets at the Arrival Day or after the Welcome meeting 19 August. Friday, 26 August 13:00 13:15 Presentation of UF Malmö Malmö Association of Foreign Affairs Location: Orkanen, D138 The Malmö Association of Foreign Affairs (UF Malmö), is a politically and religiously independent non-profit association, led by students for students. The associations organizes approximately 50 events per year, with weekly lectures, workshops and other events related to international politics and global awareness. Let them tell you more about what they do and how you can get involved! 13:15 15:00 The Swedish Model A Political History of Sweden Location: Orkanen, D138 Socialist? Neutral? Boring? Get to know your new home country by tapping into its modern political history in this presentation, which is much more entertaining than the tile may insinuate. 19:00 - late Pub Night / Student Buddy Night (optional) Location: Student Union Pub Mingle with new found friends and meet new friends.
