1 Uniform Guidelines for Parents and Students Uniform Noun: The distinctive clothing worn by members of the same organization or body or by children attending certain schools Adjective: Remaining the same in all cases and at all times; unchanging in form or character Why does Heritage High School have a Uniform? The Headteacher and Governing Body at Heritage High School firmly believe that a school uniform plays a valuable role in contributing to school ethos and climate for learning. A uniform instils pride; supports positive behaviour; improves discipline and protects children from social pressures to dress in a particular way.

2 Uniform Rules No extremes of appearance are acceptable. The school asks for the support of parents/carers in ensuring their children dress and present themselves correctly, in accordance with the school s uniform policy. Parents should contact their appropriate Guidance Manager or Head of House for any uniform related matters. NB. Retail Back to School clothing ranges may not be suitable. Blazer, Jumper and Tie Heritage High School Blazers are compulsory and can be purchased from Student Services. Blazer sleeves should not be rolled up Heritage High School ties are compulsory and must be clipped onto the fastened top button of a white school shirt. School ties can be purchased from Student Services Heritage High School v-neck jumpers are optional. Jumpers should never be worn instead of a blazer. Heritge jumpers can be purchased from Student Services (We recommend that jumpers are only worn in cold weather) White School shirt Shirts must be formal and have a collar Top button must be fastened Shirts must be white Short sleeved shirts may be worn in warm weather Shirts should always be tucked in Blouses are not allowed Polo shirts are not allowed Shirts designed to be worn out of trousers are not allowed Boys Trousers

4 Plain black school skirts may be worn with black tights Skirts should be a suitable length (around knee height) No mini skirts No skin-tight skirts should be worn No skirts with visible zips or other fashion accessories No denim material No canvas material Overcoats Overcoats should be plain Overcoats should be worn over the blazer Over coats should provide suitable protection from inclement weather Overcoats made from hoodie material are not allowed Hoodies are not allowed Jackets that do not offer sufficient waterproofing and/or insulation are not allowed (for example, thin tracksuit jackets) Hair colour and styles No unnatural, vivid colours and no extreme styles or patterns No hair accessories

5 Acceptable School Footwear All students are expected to wear black formal school shoes Black formal school shoes Leather or leather-like material No high heels or stiletto heels Unacceptable School Footwear Trainers are not allowed (except for PE) Cross trainers are not allowed Canvas shoes are not allowed Pumps/plimsoll styles are not allowed Van style trainers are not allowed Visible logos are not allowed

6 Jewellery All jewellery must be removed for physical education related lessons for health and safety reasons Earrings Studs only No multiple earrings No spacer, spike style or any other style of earrings are allowed Facial/Body Piercings All Facial and body piercings are banned at Heritage High Schools (including dermal piercings) Watches, bracelets and wristbands Student are encouraged to wear a watch (removed for PE) No multiple wristbands or bracelets Fashion style bracelets (such as loom bands) should not be worn Makeup & nail extensions Years 7 & 8 no makeup Years 9, 10 & 11 lightly applied makeup only Nail extensions are not allowed Student may be asked to remove excess makeup by a member of school staff. Tattoos In the UK it is illegal for children under 18 to have a tattoo (with or without parental consent); therefore tattoos are not allowed and should never be visible. The final decision with all uniform related issues resides with the Senior Leadership Team.
