2 DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHTS Frame and leaf dimensions must be sufficient to allow components to be fitted as per these instructions. Maximum sizes governed by requirements for function, strength and weather performance. Maximum weight for each wheel carriage is 50 kg, giving a maximum weight per leaf of 100 kg. By using 2 wheels at each side, the weight can be doubled. COMPONENTS Sill profiles ( ) An extruded aluminium profile (1) must be developed to suit the design of the timber cill profile. The aluminium profile will be approx. 200 mm shorter than the than the overall sliding door width (outside measurement). The aluminium profile should have 8 mm diameter drain holes with a max. c/c of 200 mm, and be fixed with screws again with a max. c/c of 200 mm. There should be 60 mm distance between the aluminium profile and the closing jamb. A stainless steel cover profile (2) is required on top of the upright of the aluminium cill profile to minimise wear from the wheel carriage. The end piece (3) is fitted at the end of the aluminium rail profile (closing side) the end piece fits right and left hand doors. The end piece acts as a guide for the closing leaf and also protects the ends of the metal cill profiles. If the Spilka aluminium rail profile does not fit your threshold, we can advise in designing a relevant rail profile and give proposals to potential suppliers. Wheel carriage (4) There is only one size of wheel carriage. The wheel itself is made of stainless steel and has a double sealed roller bearing to ensure strength and longevity. The carriage is hinged on one side and when the door is opened gravity helps move the sliding leaf upright, away from the weather seals, allowing smooth, trouble-free operation. Page 2

3 Closing hooks: The hooks are designed to compress the gasket between the sliding and fixed leaves when the sliding door is closed. There are two types of hooks, one in steel and one in plas c. The hooks are used in pairs, the plas c hook is used on the sliding leaf and the steel hook on the fixed leaf. The door normally need 3 pair of hooks. The steel hooks are powder coated to provide low fric on and increased longevity. End keeps (6 + 7) The end keep consists of two pieces; one frame plate (6) and one plastic wedge (7). The plastic wedge fits over the edge of the frame plate as shown. The plastic wedge is reversible and may be turned for left or right hand use. The frame plate is marked L or R and will show the handing when the plastic wedge is fitted to it. The frame plate is galvanised and may also be ordered powder coated. Doorstop (14) The doorstop for Tango is made of white plastic with a rubber buffer. The doorstop is fixed first, the buffer then added and fixed with a screw. Page 3

4 Espagnolette (8) Upon closing, the espagnolette first pulls the sliding leaf against the side frame and then against the gasket. Espagnolettes are available in various lengths (see table). The espagnolette face plate may be cut down to fit. All espagnolettes include a lockbox and 3 locking points. A 1780 mm 1980 mm 2280 mm B 1430 mm 1630 mm 1830 mm Dimensions Vertical dimensions are referred from the bottom of the faceplate. Horizontal dimensions are referred to the front of the faceplate whose thickness is 2 mm Handle stop (9) A handle stop is fitted to the bottom of the espagnolette. This prevents damage should the handle be turned to the horizontal position whilst the door is open. Lockbox Espagnolettes are available with 33 mm and 40 mm backsets (this is the distance from the front of the faceplate to the centre of the handle spindle hole). The vertical measure from the centre of the lock to the centre of the handle spindle hole is 60mm. Lockboxes are 14.6 mm wide and their fitted depth (C) depends on the backset see table under. All lockboxes are lockable by key or lock catch. D (backset) 33 mm 40 mm C 46 mm 53 mm Handle (10) To avoid overloading the lockbox /espagnolette, handles should not be more than 170mm long, ideally the spindle pin should have a shear facility. Sticker (12) We recommend use of our sticker which shows the correct use of handle and locking system to avoid potential damage and complaints. Page 4

5 PROFILES Profiles must have a sufficient dimension to allow all components to be adequately fixed as detailed in this manual. Timber profiles must be straight to ensure the correct function of the sliding patio door. Larger size doors increase the potential for problems. Tango is not designed for outsize doors and every producer should find and set their optimum door sizes. Timber profiles are featured here but PVCu or aluminium profiles may also be used. The drawing shows a bead fixed with screws into the top frame, this is used to secure the sliding leaf from the outside. The top frame secures the leaf from the inside. Plastic caps (P) are used to avoid friction and ensure easy movement of the sliding leaf. These caps are fitted on either side of the sliding leaf and one in the middle - see drawing. There should be a maximum 3 mm gap between the top of the sliding leaf and the frame to ensure the leaf cannot be lifted from the running rail. The distance between the sliding leaf and the threshold should be a minimum of 5 mm when closed, this allows adequate drainage under the leaf. Page 5

6 ROUTING AND PREPARATION Sliding door wheel carriage Each wheel carriage is mortised into the bottom rail of the sliding leaf. The mortise is 26,5 mm wide and needs a minimum length of 100 mm. It is recommended to mount the adjustment device (11) for the wheel carriage near the fixed door leaf. Predrilled Ø7, 5 mm The centre of the wheel carriage should be approx. 140 mm from the end of the sliding leaf. Closing hooks An oval hole or ver cal groove is required to fix the hooks in both the sliding and fixed leaf of the door. When the door is in the open posi on the distance between the hooks should not exceed 31 mm see drawing. The hooks should also be located at the same depth in the jambs of both leaves. Doorstop (14) for sliding patio door. If required, doorstop maybe fitted on the bottom and also on the top. Holes of Ø 8, should be predrilled, the doorstop is then fixed with a screw Ø 4,5 x50 mm. 7 End keep routing A 22 mm diameter tool is recommended for the end keep hole routing. The steel plate of the end keep is 3 mm thick. The vertical position of the end keep is shown on the drawing. The centre of the rounded profile on the running rail is the reference point. Espagnolett lengde 1780 mm 1980 mm 2280 mm S 1465 mm 1665 mm 1865 mm Espagnolette The outer part of the espagnolette groove must accept a faceplate with a dimension of 2 x 25 mm. The inner width of the groove must be 13 mm and either 10 or 25 mm deep depending on whether the closing hooks and handle stop are fitted in individual routings or one continuous groove. The lockbox cut-out must be 15.5mm wide and either 46 or 53mm deep (L) depending on the backset required. When fitted, the bottom of the espagnolette faceplate should be 12 mm from the centre of the rounded profile on top of the running rail. The distance between the espagnolette faceplate and the end keep faceplate is 3 mm when the door is closed, a total of 8 mm is required between the jamb and leaf at this point see drawing. Horizontal position (out / in) shall be such that the center espagnolette and center end keep is shifted 0.5 mm. See drawing. Page 7

8 MOUNTING 1. The rail with stainless steel profile and plastic end piece is fitted to the cill profile. 2. The 3 end keeps are screwed to the closing side frame closing hooks are screwed to the fixed leaf closing hooks are screwed to the sliding leaf. 5. Wheel carriages are fitted to the sliding leaf. 6. Espagnolette and handle lock are screwed to the opening side of the sliding leaf. 7. Handle set is fitted. Sliding leaf, frame and fixed leaf assembly: 8. The sliding leaf is placed at an angle onto the rail, the wheel carriages are located onto the rail and the leaf is lifted upright. 9. Beads are fixed to the top frame to secure the sliding leaf. NB! Fit safety stops for the sliding leaf (not supplied). Mounting in the wall After mounting the sliding door into the wall, the gap between jambs of the sliding leaf and fixed leaf should be checked. Measured along the entire height, gap should be a maximum deviation of 2 mm before the espagnolette hooks enter the end keeps. NB! Accurate assembly as described is important to avoid future problems.
