1 Cassandra Guarneros SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST CF ELECTRONIC PORTFOLIO

2 Professional Objective My objective is to obtain a full-time clinical fellowship position in the field of speech language pathology. My professional interests include working in a pediatric setting with an emphasis on treating and evaluating children with speech and language disorders, specifically children with medical disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Williams Syndrome, etc.

3 Philosophy & Style Compassion I am very passionate about what I do and the patients I treat. I m an empathetic person and have a strong desire to help individuals reach their goals. I am energetic, motivating, and caring, and I always begin and finish a session with a great attitude, which motivates clients to participate and make significant progress. Improvisation My experiences have taught me that a SLP must be able to improvise and think on her feet. At times, clients may refuse to initiate or complete a planned activity and display non-compliant behaviors., therefore, a SLP must have the ability to adapt the session plan and use different methods to motivate clients and encourage compliance. Patience Patience is very important when working with individuals with communication disorders. I have learned that I must slowly work towards a goal and adapt my sessions according to a client s potential ability to progress. Small steps lead to great gains!

14 Supervisor Feedback Cassandra is enthusiastic with our students, supports other SLPs in our building, and collaborates with teachers. She is professional in all her interactions as a team member, she is punctual, she is prepared every day, and she asks questions to gain more understanding of procedures and protocols. Lauren Bridge, Supervisor at Pleasant Run MS Cassandra has a natural way of eliciting more language from our students by having them provide examples and relate to their personal experiences. She allows for plenty of think time before supporting students with more cuing. Lauren Bridge, Supervisor at Pleasant Run MS Cassandra s evaluation skills are strong. Demonstrated increased skills in dealing with challenging behaviors during evaluations. Cassandra is doing well with learning to adapt the sessions to the child. Great improvements were noted with handling non-compliant behaviors and use of different methods to encourage compliance. Michele A. Gething, Supervisor at Triangle Therapy Services
