2 The William J. Painter Award for Excellence William J. Painter worked for Upstate Medical University from He was recognized for his excellence in Nursing Clinical Practice and Nursing Management and was an inspiration to his colleagues. Each year the 3R Advisory Group honors William J. Painter by giving an award for excellence in Nursing Clinical Practice and an award in Nursing Management to recipients nominated by their co-workers. The recipient of each award receives $250 and recognition for their excellence in nursing. Umeschandra Patil Family Pediatric Nursing Endowment Education & Enrichment Award The purpose of this award is for nurses who are caring for children in any setting within University Hospital and its ambulatory sites to further their training in pediatric nursing. It is hoped that through this support, nurses will continue in a long career of caring for children and their families in various health care settings. The monies awarded may be utilized towards conference attendance, travel associated with educational opportunities, or support for attendance in an academic program geared towards pediatrics. Consideration will also be given to other educational and development endeavors meant to increase knowledge and sustain interest in the specialty of pediatric nursing. Applicants should consider other non-traditional means of increasing their knowledge such as site visits to other institutions or organizations caring for the specialized group of children in which the applicant is interested. Excellence in Pediatric Nursing This award has been established by colleagues, family and friends in honor of Maureen T. O Hara. Maureen had a passion for service of the most vulnerable population: children. This award is founded on the characteristics exemplified by Maureen during her career in Pediatric Nursing at Upstate. The award winner exemplifies Service, Compassion, Empathy,Leadership, Pediatric Clinical Expertise, Advocacy for Children and Their Families, with a Creative and Innovative Spirit that Drives Exceptional Patient Care.
