4 HIRING AN APPRENTICE Apprenticeships Explained Apprentices are aged 16 and over and combine on-the-job training with studying towards their chosen apprenticeship qualification, and can be new or existing employees. In regards to hours of work, Apprentices must work for a minimum of 30 hours per week. Apprentices or employees undertaking an apprenticeship must be paid the National Minimum Wage rate per hour dependent on their age whilst working for you. There is a minimum rate for apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those aged 19 and over who are in their first year. For more information, contact us on the details provided.
