2 ISO/IEC JTC1/SC32 WG1 interim Meeting Information The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) invites you to the JTC1 SC32 WG1 e-business interim meeting in Toronto, Canada to be held on November 17-21, Meeting Information JTC 1/SC 32/WG 1 e-business November 17-21, 2014, Toronto, Canada The WG1 meeting will be in the Bahen Centre for Information Technology at the University of Toronto: 40 St. George Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Access to the building is through (1) the St. George Street entrance on the east side of the building; or, (2) College Street entrance on the south side of the building. The building is open access no sign in is required. All meetings will be held in meeting room BA8227 which is located on the 8th floor. Wireless internet connection will be available. The airport has 3 main terminals. For information on the airport facilities, see the web site at: Getting to downtown Toronto from the Airport Taxi and limousine Taxi and limousine services are available from all 3 terminals outside the arrival halls. These licensed services charge flat rate fees (see taxi / limo.). (Note: Anyone approaching you inside the airport will be unlicensed and will probably charge you more. Avoid them.) Public transit See for current information. The 192 Airport Rocket route provides all-day accessible bus service between Pearson Airport and Kipling Station on the Bloor- Danforth Subway. Buses stop only at Kipling Station, Dundas Street & East Mall Crescent, Terminal 3 (Departures Level), Terminal 2 (Arrivals Level) and Terminal 1 (Ground level). Service operates from approximately 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., seven days a week. One-way travel time is approximately 20 minutes. The cash fare is C$3.00. The driver does not carry change. 6 From Kipling Station, take the Bloor-Danforth subway (Line 2) eastbound. The Holiday Inn is located a half block west of St. George Station. To get to the Chelsea Eaton Hotel or Courtyard Marriott Hotel, you will need to transfer to the Yonge-University subway (Line 2) at Yonge-Bloor Station. Go southbound to College Station. The Courtyard Marriott is located one block north of College Station and the Chelsea Eaton is located three blocks south of College Station. Getting to Toronto By Air Billy Bishop Airport (downtown Toronto) Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (IATA: YTZ, ICAO: CYTZ), commonly known as the Toronto Island Airport, is a small airport located on the Toronto Islands in downtown Toronto. The Toronto Island airport is serviced by Porter Airlines and Air Canada Express with flights from Canadian and US cities. Jet planes are not permitted at this airport (except emergency flights).. By Bus Out-of-town buses arrive and depart from the Coach Terminal, located at 610 Bay St. Service to/from points all over Ontario, Canada and the U.S. National and regional bus lines serve the Greater Toronto area. Companies represented include: CoachCanada and Greyhound (the only direct service to American destinations). By Rail Toronto is served by the VIA Rail System, the network that provides all rail service throughout Canada (with connections to the 6

7 Amtrak system through Niagara Falls, New York). Union Station is located on Front Street, between Bay and University (across the street from the Fairmont Royal York Hotel). The station is right on Toronto's subway line. By Road Major routes to Toronto parallel the shore of Lake Ontario. Highways 401, 2 and the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), enter Toronto from the west. Highways 401 and 2 also enter Toronto from the east, and the Don Valley Parkway (DVP) connects the 401 to downtown. From the east, take the 401 to the DVP, and follow the DVP south to the Bloor Street exit. From the west take the QEW, or the 401 and the 427 south, to the Gardiner Expressway, which connects the QEW and 427 to downtown. Follow the Gardiner expressway past the Yonge Street exit to the Jarvis Street exit, and take Jarvis Street north to Bloor Street. 7

City of Toronto official site Commercial sites Transit Information Toronto Transit The cash fare is C$3.00, but tickets and tokens are available from subway stations at the rate of 10 for $ This is a flat rate for subway, buses and "street cars" (trams) regardless of distance traveled, or changes along the way, excluding stopovers. "Transfer tickets" (a.k.a. "transfers") are sometimes required to board connecting routes. Pick-up a transfer when you start your journey as you may need to transfer between vehicles. Transfers are available from drivers on surface routes, and from machines inside subway stations. Transfers obtained at a subway station are not valid on surface vehicles at that station. The 506 Carlton streetcar runs from Yonge Street to St. George Street along College Street, and can be used to reach the meeting location from hotels along Yonge Street. Where to Eat. Cafeterias There are several cafeterias on the University of Toronto campus, one in the Sandford Fleming Building (10 King s College Road) and the Medical Sciences Building (1 King s College Circle). Restaurants There are numerous restaurants in the vicinity, especially south of campus on Baldwin Street or along Spadina Avenue. 9 General Information Electricity In Canada, the electricity voltage is 110 volts AC, 60 Hz. Please ensure your appliances are set appropriately to the North American grid voltage rating of 110 Volts When shopping for electrical appliances, do remember to check the voltage of the item against the acceptable voltage in your home country. The power plugs used in Canada are of the two-pin Type A and three-pin Type B. Please consult and review the specifications for Type A and Type B plugs and sockets that are in use in North America. Mobile Phones The mobile phone networks are as below. Please ensure quad band GSM compatibility for international phone coverage for 2G coverage. Many coffee shops and restaurants provide Wi-Fi capabilities also. Drinking Water It is perfectly safe to drink water straight from the tap in Toronto. However, for those who prefer bottled and/or mineral water, local supermarkets and grocers always have ample stocks. Smoking Smoking is not permitted in public service vehicles, museums, libraries, lifts, theatres, cinemas, air-conditioned restaurants, hair salons, supermarkets, department stores and government offices. Shopping Hours A good number of department stores and some smaller shops are open daily from 10am to about 9pm, or even late hours. The Toronto Eaton Shopping Centre closeby in downtown Toronto (see is open from 10Am to 9:30PM daily except Sundays (till 7pm) Canada is one of the few countries in the world where you feel safe staying out in the streets till late at night. As long as basic precautions are taken, you can have peace of mind to shop and 9
