How can you get information?
How will our children achieve exam success Class target Attend Engage Revise
HOME LEARNING Guidelines The core subjects of English, Maths and Science will set home learning every week. For KS4 Biology, Chemistry and Physics, 1 hour will be set per fortnight. Foundation subjects will set home learning once a fortnight. For Citizenship, RS and core PE, home learning may be set occasionally, when appropriate. KS4 home learning should take up to an hour to complete per subject.
No Timetable There will be no timetable, but home learning will be set in accordance with the guidance above. Deadlines will be set within a reasonable time frame.
What will it look like? Home learning tasks will consolidate, extend or broaden learning. Pupils will also be given to choice to create their own home learning task. All teachers will use Frog to set home learning. Planners can still be used to record tasks and deadlines. Your report will now include information about HOW OFTEN your child completes home learning AND the QUALITY of the work completed.
An example of Home Learning CONSOLIDATE Teach an adult what the United Nations Right of the Child is. Explain the difference between rights and responsibilities. Get them to sign your planner to prove you have done this. EXTEND Work with your parents or carers to create a Home Charter. Don t forget to think about their rights too! Get them to sign your planner to prove you have done this. BROADEN What has changed since the Charter was signed over 20 years ago? Start your research here: Bring 3 changes to the lesson.
They had been learning about the Titanic but not this particular bit so a broaden question was set to increase their knowledge of the subject Broaden
This HL consolidated what had been done in class Consolidate
Extend This HL extends and challenges by setting them a 12 mark exam style question to complete
Exams are getting tougher! Key changes that will apply to all subjects are: all subjects will have revised subject content which will be used for all GCSEs in that subject - in most instances this will be produced by the Department for Education a new grading scale from 9 to 1 non-exam assessment will only be used where knowledge, skills and understanding cannot be tested validly in an exam; this means the proportion of non-exam assessment has been reduced in a number of subjects tiering will only be used when a single exam cannot assess students across the full ability range in a way that enables them all to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding; this means fewer subjects will now use tiering November exams are only available in Maths and English language, and only for students who were 16 or over on the preceding 31 August; all other exams will take place in the summer
Don t be like Sponge Bob! All pupils must have a stronger focus on exam skills
RATSS Year 9
What is the best way to revise? There is no one way to revise What is clear is that everyone needs to revise to achieve their full potential Every learner needs to find a method or methods of study that will best suit them Tonight we are going to look at different methods to revise What about revision and memory?
Your prefrontal cortex deals with short term memory. The aim is to store information in your longer term memory
A fading memory? 100% Information retained 80% 60% 40% 20% 0% Time elapsed since learning
Оne Two Three Four Five Один Два Три Четыре пять A-Din D-Va Тri Chit-Ir-yeh pya-t
Один Два Три Четыре пять A-Din D-Va Тri Chit-Ir-yeh pya-t
Три Четыре Один Пять Два
Три + Один = Четыре Четыре Два = Два Пять Три = Два
When we studied the Russian numbers one to five, we used the following techniques
Some Useful Recall Activities 1. Record your notes and play back regularly especially before going to sleep. 2. Mind mapping and diagrams Break down the information into mind maps, spider-grams, diagrams, free hand drawing etc., use colour, highlighters etc. Summarise or boil down learning how many times can you boil down the information so that it still makes sense and triggers your memory to recall the full details? Turn your final versions into revision post cards/posters/ placemats Put them all over your bedroom - signposts! 3. Active Reading Read the information, think about what you are reading or have read, ask questions, reflect. 4. Question and response Ask yourself a series of questions on the topic and reply
Some More Useful Recall Activities 5. Write down your notes from memory You can then return to your original notes and fill in any gaps 6. Recalling When reading, stop every few minutes to recap and recall Write your notes down from memory and then fill in the gaps with a red pen. 7. Association and imagery memory techniques Remember the examples we applied when learning the Russian numbers one to five! Effective revision often makes use of various strategies and techniques
Revision technique we remember 5% of what we hear 10% of what we see 20% of what we discuss 50% by doing 90% by explaining to others
Revision technique past papers Practice makes perfect! Exam technique is as important as knowing the information Read the instructions carefully Be aware of the marks given for questions
SOMEWHERE SUITABLE TO STUDY Find what works and stick to it
MAKE A PLAN Stick to it
Три Четыре Один Пять Два
