2 Adult Learners in EDU Credit Increasing demand for more highly skilled individuals: 70% of all future jobs will require some form of PSE, yet.. Almost 700,000 Ontarians aged are without a high school diploma. 2
3 Objective One Objective Two Objective Three EDU Adult Education Strategy: to Improving access and opportunities for adult learners Key Goal: To support the commitment made in Achieving Excellence to ensure that the adult education system better supports adult learners in their efforts to finish high school and successfully transition to postsecondary education, training or the workplace. Improve adult learner outcomes by promoting system innovation and accessibility through collaboration / coordination and partnerships among school boards at the regional level. Better support the provision of EDU Adult and Continuing Education programs and services that are flexible and responsive to learner needs. Improve the transitions for learners between EDU adult credit programs and programs funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD) and Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration (MCI). 3
4 What do we want to achieve? To ensure that all adult learners in all regions of the province have access to consistent, high quality EDU Adult Education programs and services. Regionally coordinated access to flexible delivery of EDU Adult and Continuing Education programs and/or services that best meet adult learner needs. Regionally available and consistently applied PLAR for Mature Students working towards a high school diploma Coordinated information, intake, assessment, and referral, provided at school boards to ensure learners are directed to the program or service that best meets their needs. Regionally available guidance, career counselling and pathway planning for mature students working towards a high school diploma or seeking prerequisites for postsecondary education. 4
5 Phase Regional consultations with school boards Plan of Action Phase Development of regional school board partnerships and regional strategic plans to achieve coordination in the four key areas. Phase Implementation of regional strategic plans. Assessment of outcomes and recommendations. Three-year, phased approach Commitment of $9M over the next three years to support school boards to implement the strategy. 5

Participation on the Regional Partnership for Adult Education provides an opportunity to: work with other boards in your region to explore innovative approaches that ensure all adult learners in your region have access to high quality programs and services that meet their needs. build mutually beneficial relationships and partnerships and; create streamlined and strengthened communication channels between school boards and the ministry with respect to adult education in Ontario. 9
