Ontario will continue to promote greater collaboration between early years and education partners as indicated in the plan of action in Achieving Excellence: A Renewed Vision for Education in Ontario. As child care, early learning and the education system become increasingly integrated, more children will benefit from a stronger start in life. We recognize that full realization of this vision requires strategic, dedicated, and sustained leadership. The Early Years Lead position (EY Lead) will continue to help school boards further integrate early years programs and services, and ensure inclusion of child care and family support programs in long term planning. Please refer to Appendix 1 for a breakdown of the EY Leads funding for the school year. Page 1
2 EDI Teacher Release As communicated in the October 8, 2014 memo about EDI Data Collection in from Jim Grieve, Assistant Deputy Minister of the Early Years Division, schools boards will be responsible for the administration and the collection of the EDI data beginning in As teachers will complete the EDI for each kindergarten student who will be starting Grade 1 the following year, the ministry is providing school boards with funding to release kindergarten teachers for training and data collection. School board representatives will learn more about the EDI process and data collection at regional meetings in November. School boards have received their invitations to the regional meetings and we look forward to sharing additional information at that time. Please refer to Appendix 2 for a breakdown of the EDI funding for the school year. As always, thank you for your continued support and leadership. If you have any questions, please contact: Jill Worthy at jill.worthy@ontario.ca or for the EY Leads program; or, Laurie McNelles at laurie.mcnelles@ontario.ca or for the EDI. Sincerely, Pam Musson Director, Early Years Implementation Branch Early Years Division Shannon Fuller Director, Business Planning, Outcomes and Assessments Branch Early Years Division Copy: School Board Early Years Leads Supervisory Business Officials Page 2
