3 HORIZON 2020 SME INSTRUMENT NEW PHILOSOPHY SME-I is a one shot grant application, with low success rate (10%-15%) and only for SMEs SME-I is strongly market oriented; EC is expecting Business oriented project, NOT research projects (TRL 6 minimum) The Capability to implement the business plan will be a key point in evaluations The SME-I should adopt a Bottom-up approach.

5 HORIZON 2020 SME INSTRUMENT NEW PHILOSOPHY The SME instrument will cover all fields of science, technology and innovation in a bottom-up approach within a given societal challenge or enabling industrial technology so as to leave sufficient room for all kinds of promising ideas, notably cross-sector and inter-disciplinary projects, to be funded. SME Instrument is an integral part of Horizon 2020 and has 7% of the overall budget
