About Think Through Math Think Through Math (TTM) - used by nearly 3 million students in over 80,000 classrooms across the United States - is a web-based supplemental math learning system aligned to either state-specific or Common Core standards. TTM provides adaptive and personalized learning support for third grade and above across a wide range of competencies from response-to-intervention (RTI), gifted students, on grade-level students or ELL students (via embedded Spanish audio support). TTM combines a unique motivational program with engaging adaptive instruction and live online teacher support in a web-based learning system. On-demand certified math teachers are available for instant intervention in a laddered approach at the precise point a student needs help. TTM makes true : personalized instruction for EVERY child an affordable reality for schools. To keep students motivated, completed lessons earn points to create a personalized avatar, to donate individually to charity (Wounded Warrior, No Kid Hungry, etc.), or contribute to a classroom goal, such as a Domino s Pizza party or a collective charitable donation. Since the start of the charitable contributions program, Think Through Math has contributed over $300,000 to both national and local charities on behalf of students and classrooms across the US. 3 Distinctive Features Think Through Math brings together rigorous, authentic math content with unique motivational strategies and on-demand support from certified math teachers. This guide will highlight some of the significant differentiating features that set Think Through Math apart from other on-line curriculum products and that contribute to the program s rapid adoption and proven efficacy:. Customizable Adaptive Pathways 2. On-Demand Live Teacher Support 3. Integrated Benchmarks and Progress Monitoring Using the Quantile Framework from MetaMetrics 4. Unique Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation Customizable Adaptive Pathways Teachers have complete flexibility in how they use Think Through Math. The default experience is an adaptive pathway for each student. Based on their grade level, performance on the placement and benchmark tests, and the specific state standards of learning. However, teachers can also customize pathways or create new pathways to fit the needs of each student. This flexibility enables teachers to decide precisely what lessons are assigned to a student and when those lessons will be delivered. Teachers may create customized pathways to: Follow the scope and sequence of their classroom textbook Provide more intensive instruction on specific topics for one or several students Provide unique lessons to be completed as homework Online Teacher Support If students need assistance, they can instantly chat with an on-line math tutor via audio or text who can see the student s prior responses to the question and can help correct any misconceptions the student may have about the concepts included that lesson. TTM has teachers available across the US to provide live support for students who need extra help. Live on-demand teacher support is available 7:30 am through 9:30 pm local time and for part of each day on weekends/holidays. Spanish-speaking teachers and audio support are included. Immediate access to a live teacher helps students avoid frustration and to persevere through more complex material by keeping them within their Zone of Proximal Development.
Integrated Benchmarks and Progress Monitoring Using the Quantile Framework from MetaMetrics Understanding precisely each student s level of current math proficiency enables educators to ensure students are presented with content at the appropriate level of difficulty. Think Through Math includes a series of short integrated assessments to determine a student s current level of math ability and readiness for new math concepts, as well as measure on-going progress. TTM utilizes the Quantile Framework from MetaMetrics, which is a single scientifically-based developmental scale for measuring student math proficiency as well as difficulty of math content. When a student completes the initial placement test at the start of Think Through Math, a starting Quantile measure is calculated and a customized learning pathway generated. Two additional benchmark tests can be given during the year to measure student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly. For more information on the Quantile Framework, please visit: com. Integrating these short benchmark tests into Think Through Math enables educators to correlate usage of Think Through Math to growth in math proficiency from within a single location, rather than having to manually combine information from multiple systems to chart student growth. Motivation TTM was specifically designed to encourage students usage of the program by providing short-term and long-term intrinsic and extrinsic motivational activities, including: Contests and incentives for passing lessons in the evenings, on weekends, and over school breaks National contests, such as March Math Madness, where students compete against other schools and ultimately be recognized as the National THINK Champions See this video: or read how TTM motivational strategies engage students: neighborhood/katy/news/ article/fielder-fifth-grader-winsmathchallenge php State-specific competitions, such as the Mountain State Math Cup, where Utah and Idaho compete against each other for the most passed lessons Students can earn points, for demonstrating effort and results, which can be spent on building a cool avatar, contributing points to charity either individually or by classroom (for a pizza party or charitable contribution). Students can earn national recognition for creating a detailed math journal to document their work during January Journaling Month, or showing how they use math on a daily basis for Everyday Math Month.

Pathways Guide Progress and Activities To demonstrate how a Pathway can be easily added to TTM, we have created a CODiE Judges Pathway highlighting key TTM elements. Review this customized pathway on the Customer-Created tab or simply browse through any other Pathway by clicking on the name. Use TTM Pathways (or create your own) to guide students through a sequence of lessons within TTM. Pathways are based on each state s standards of learning, are adaptive in re-sponse to each student s specific performance on a lesson, and begin with a placement test to determine grade level and initial Quantile measure. Teachers can create customize pathways, if desired, and students can be assigned to multiple pathways. Pathways are constructed of multiple lessons and are aligned to each state s standards of learning. TTM supports the standards for 48 different states, including states that have adopted the Common Core as well as those that use state-specific standards, such as the Texas TEKS. To see which lessons are included on a pathway, click the title of the pathway. Please note, the demonstration data in this account is for Pennsylvania.
Content and Activities Lessons in Think Through Math are comprised of five sections: Pre-quiz; Warm-up Game; Guided Learning OR Problem-Solving Process; Practice; and Post-quiz. Teachers can preview any lessons and any of the subsections of the lesson from the Content tab at the top menu bar. Select the Content tab and then Preview an Activity 2 2 Select the Unit > Numbers and Operations - Fractions and a Lesson> Multiplying Fractions by Fractions. Then select Guided Learning from the list of Activities.
Guided Learning 2 2 Select the Content tab and then Guided Learning and the Support Ladder Preview an Activity The Guided Learning segment of each lesson includes multiple types of instructional supports including graphics, short animations, math tools, vocabulary words, and ultimately, students can receive support from a live certified math teacher. To see this in action, try selecting incorrect answers to see how TTM provides immediate, corrective feedback. Students select Math Help to see additional instructional information, both specific to the problem as well as more conceptual instructional information. After reviewing the first two HELP tabs, students can chat with a live, certified math teacher before, during and after the school day, as well as on weekends and most holidays.
Unique Feature: The Support Ladder Using the TTM Math Help button, students can review multiple layers of feedback within the Guided Learning or Problem Solving Process segment of a lesson. If a student still struggles with a concept after reviewing the on-line feedback, they can request to connect with a live, on-line math teacher. To encourage perseverance, students must attempt at least one answer and read the first two help screens PRIOR to asking to talk with a teacher. Students initiate these discussions on demand, just like raising their hands in class. The teacher can talk or text in the first level of tutoring, and the student can text only. If the student needs additional support, the teacher can send them to a more intensive tutoring session, which uses the two-way interactive whiteboard. At that point, both the student and teacher can talk with each other. TTM provides these instant interventions in both Spanish and English, based on a student s language preference. Think Through Math uses a gradual release approach within the lessons. The teacher is there to support the student during the Guided Learning or Problem Solving Process part of the lesson, in addition to the on-screen instructional feedback that the student receives. In the practice section of the lesson, the student still gets on-screen instructional feedback, but the teacher is no longer available. In the Post-quiz section, there is no on-screen instructional feedback. Additional Features: -Calculator, formulas, and math vocabulary -English and Spanish audio support
Warm-Up Games Think Through Math uses math-related games as a warm-up activity prior to getting into the instructional segment of a lesson. The theme of each warm-up game is related to the concept being covered in the specific lesson. Each game is 80 seconds long and is designed to refresh the student s knowledge about a skill or concept that will be required in the current lesson. To play a warm-up game, go back to the Dashboard, select Content, and select Preview an Activity. From the Choose An Activity To Preview dialog box, select Operations and Algebraic Thinking, select Interpreting Division Problems, and select Warm Up Game.
Warm-Up Games (cont d.) Think Through Math includes over 65 unique warm-up games to keep students challenged and engaged. Games increase in sophistication as the math concepts being taught become more complex. To play the Moon Base warm-up game, go back to the Dashboard, select Content, select Preview an Activity, select Congruence, select Proving Theorems About Relationships in Triangles, select Warm Up Game. To play the Robot Builder warm-up game, go back to the Dashboard, select Content, select Preview an Activity, select Numbers and Operations Fractions, select Adding Fractions Estimation Strategies, select Warm Up Game.

Teachers can drill through each standard to specific student performance.
Think Through Math: Motivation
Motivation: Individual, Classroom and Charitable Goals Designed to reward effort and encourage perseverance, TTM students use hard-earned THINK points to customize their avatars, donate to charity, or contribute toward a class-wide goal like a pizza party. TTM s charitable partnerships bring unique opportunities for students to donate to local and national charities, including the Red Cross, St. Jude s, Wounded Warrior and many others. Each month, a specific charity is highlighted to build awareness. TTM encourage healthy competition through state and national contests, such as March Math Madness and regional Math Cups. Learn more about TTM s charitable donations program at:
Think Through Math: Student User Experience
Student TTM Dashboard In the same way that the teacher s user experience in Think Through Math is centered around the Teacher Dashboard as the hub of the teacher s activity, the student s user experience is also centered around a colorful, intuitive dashboard. The student can customize their dashboard by selecting a theme for their dashboard background image. TTM keeps track of where each student is within the program and picks up exactly where they left off, no matter where and when they sign on: from home, from school or on the go. Every function of TTM, including live teacher support, is available from any internet connected device. 2 2 Students see at a glance how they are doing with lessons attempted, lessons passed, pointed earned, points available, current contests and leaderboard status. Students can check where they are in their personalized lesson pathway at any point by clicking the See All Lessons link.
Student TTM Pathway The teacher account that you were provided has multiple students assigned to the demonstration teacher s classroom. You can sign on to TTM using any of the student logins shown in Students > Student List. TTM also created an abbreviated, customized CODiE pathway that includes 5 sample lessons from multiple grade levels. These lessons highlight the variety of games, instructional content, interactive item types, and instructional supports available throughout Think Through Math. To view the sample CODiE pathway, please log in with the following information: Username: cstudent87 Password: cs3432 When a student signs on to Think Through Math for the first time, they are automatically assigned to the adaptive placement test as the starting point for the program. This 30-question test is used to calculate the initial Quantile measure for the student and construct their customized learning pathway based on their results from the initial screener. To proceed directly to the student dashboard and into the lesson pathway, click on the Skip Placement Test link on the initial screen. Sample Customized Pathway for the CODiE Evaluation Typical lesson pathways within Think Through Math have between 50 to 80 lessons on the pathway, depending upon the grade level and specific state standards. Lessons are designed to take between minutes to complete, depending on the lesson content and the student s personal math proficiency.
