At the Entry page, click on the course you are taking. 6) The first time you enter the site from your computer and anytime you use a new computer, click on the MML Home button found in the navigational buttons on the left side of the screen. Run the browser check to ensure you have the proper plug-ins on your computer.

Once you have logged into the course, you should be on this Entry page. It contains announcements and access to various course assistance items. When you are ready to enter the course, click on the appropriate course (Math 1302 College Algebra- Fall 2011). CLICK HERE - choose Fall 2011 to enter the course

The opening page to the course should appear something like shown below. First click on the "MML HOME" to access any plug-ins needed for this course. If you have difficulties, select the Help & Support link.

Notes: Text Size if any of the text is difficult to read, click View Text Size from the internet browser menu options Menu Options A brief description of each menu option is given below. o Weekly Lesson This button will direct you to the assignments for the current week. There will be links to the lesson overview, handouts, and other relevant material for the week. There will be a total of 15 weekly lessons. o ebook This button will direct you to the "online textbook". o Videos This will take you to a page that links all the videos available for the course. There are Introductory Videos that show you how to carry out some of the basic activities in the course. There are Weekly Lesson Videos that discuss the course material for a given week. There are Homework Videos that show solutions to problems that were submitted by students from the homework. Also feel free to view the videos that are included in CourseCompass (select the Multimedia Library button discussed below). o Do Homework This button will direct you to the online homework assignments that are due. Information on how to enter answers is provided under the Chapter Contents page or you may view the relevant Introductory Video. o Grade Book This button will allow you to access your current grades in the course. Ignore the average given there. The actual average will be determined by me outside of online environment because the system does not allow the weighting as described in the syllabus nor dropping lowest homework grades. However, you will receive updates on your average after each exam. o Practice Tests The course has built-in self-study materials. This button will take you to chapter tests for additional practice. Your work on practice tests will be reported, and I will use the grades you earn on these practice tests for bonus points. o Communication This button opens a page that allows you several options for communicating with other students in the course. The Collaboration option allows you to enter a virtual classroom where I can attempt to answer questions on a virtual whiteboard. o Multimedia Library This button will display the different multimedia tools that come with CourseCompass. This includes videos for each section of the text as well as animated presentations. The library can be sorted by section and media type. o Tools This button opens a page with various tools for the course. I don't intend to use this page extensively, but you may find it helpful. o MML Home This button will take you to a summary page that shows homework assignments that will be due soon and the like. It also has a Browser Check that should be run the first time you access the course. o Tools for Success This contains additional items that you may find useful as you proceed through the course. There are review problems, drill and practice problems, and much more.

Week 1 Lesson Select the Week 1 Lesson folder.

Week 1 Lesson A brief description of the items found on the Week 1 Lesson page is given below. o Introductory Videos These are videos that will guide you through some of the basic activities for the course. o Lesson Overview This file contains reading assignments, lists the videos that should be viewed, and indicates the homework assignments that are to be completed. o Week 1 Videos These are videos that I have created to present the material for this lesson. You should view these as you read the assignment in the order indicated in the Lesson Overview file. Help Features There are a number of features built into the system that allow you to obtain help if you have problems with course materials. o Interactive Text Examples As you read the course materials, the online textbook often provides interactive You Try It examples for the examples presented in the text. I think this is a very valuable way to ensure that you understand the example that you have read. o Videos I have provided many videos that motivate topics, show solutions to examples, and show solutions homework problems. These videos will allow you to see someone work out an example rather than having you simply rely on reading through examples. Please take advantage of them. o Contact Instructor If convenient, you may visit with me during my office hours. The times are listed on my syllabus. I will answer when I can. It will likely be during normal business hours. I will attempt to answer questions received by phone or Skype. We can use the Collaboration tool discussed above. You may also send questions using the "Ask My Instructor" button found to the right of each online homework problem. I will either answer your question by creating a video on the Homework Video Page, or I will direct you to a video of a similar question on the Homework Videos Page (see below). Major Exams: o There will be 3 exams plus a comprehensive final exam during the semester on the dates indicated in the syllabus. o These exams will not be taken via the computer. They will be free entry exams that I will make up closely based on the material in the Weekly Lessons. o The exams will be taken at the times and location listed in the schedule. Each of the three midsemester exams will be on a Tuesday from 5:30 7:00 pm in MCS 216. Check the Final Exam Schedule for the time for the Final Exam. o For those who cannot take the exam on campus, arrangements will need to be made (by the student) with an approved testing center that will provide a monitor and that will fax the exam to me. Please contact me, so that we can begin seeking a testing center for you. Students may incur additional financial obligations in making such an arrangement.
