1 Miss Hall s Trip to India

2 On Friday 26 th February, Miss Hall, Miss Hudson and the Doxey Learning Friends flew from Birmingham airport to Dubai and then to New Delhi, the capital of India. It took 14 hours to get to India.

3 Miss Hall travelled to her hotel by bus. The roads in New Delhi are very busy! What transport can you see? How are these photos different from roads in Stafford?

5 Jock the Dog is helping the tuc tuc driver to focus and concentrate whilst driving on the busy New Delhi roads. tuc tuc

6 Miss Hall had a Mendi pattern drawn on her hand. It is drawn using henna and when she washes it off it leaves semi permanent brown design on her skin. Can you design an elaborate Mendi design?

7 Miss Hudson showed Jock, Nelly and Mike the India Gate. India Gate is a war memorial on the eastern edge of New Delhi. It is a memorial to 82,000 soldiers of the Indian Army.

8 Miss Hall, Jock, Mike and Nelly visited the Lotus temple in New Delhi. The Lotus temple is a place for reflection, meditation and prayer.

10 Then Miss Hall and the Learning Friends had to take a 6 hour train journey to Jalandhar. They used the journey to catch up on some sleep! India is five and a half hours ahead of us.

11 During the train journey the Learning Friends saw the slums where people live. The people who live here do not have much money. What would it be like to live here?

12 On Monday Miss Hall and the Learning Friends went to the Cambridge International school in Jalandhar. It is a Primary and Secondary school which takes children from 2.5years old to 18 years old.

13 Miss Hall and our Learning Friends had a lovely day meeting the younger pupils.

14 Miss Hall also met some of the Secondary school pupils. How does their uniform differ from ours?

15 Most of the children come to school on a school bus.

16 Miss Hall spoke to some 12 year old pupils about their views on the importance of going to school and getting an education.

17 On Tuesday, Miss Hall also saw the children from the Cambridge International School take part in their school assembly. They sing the Indian National Anthem. Can you sing the Great British National Anthem?

18 Miss Hall is trying on an Indian Wedding sari. She said it was very heavy with all of the elaborate embroidery. Miss Hall has ordered an outfit from this shop - what do you think it is going to look like? We will find out on Thursday. How does an Indian Wedding sari differ from a wedding dress you have seen?

19 Miss Hall s friend tried on a Sari, it is a long piece of fabric which is wrapped round to make a dress. Look at the different sari fabrics on the shelves behind her, which one do you like the best?

20 Miss Hall, Olive and Nelly met some of the local people living in the village near the school.

21 This is the money Miss Hall is using in India. It is called Rupees. 500 rupees = rupees =? How much is 100, 10, 2 or 1 rupees in pounds and pence? Can you find out which important man is on the Indian rupee note?

23 On Wednesday, Miss Hall went to a market. She had her left hand decorated in Mendi. The man put the Henna in the piping bag and pipes the pattern onto Miss Hall s hand and arm.

26 On Thursday Miss Hall taught a Maths lesson to a class in the Cambridge International School What calculation is Miss Hall teaching the children?

27 Miss Hall taught the children a Talk for Writing lesson. She taught the children the story of the Little Red Hen and they retold and acted out part of the story together. Can you retell the story of the Little Red Hen?

28 Miss Hall gave the teachers at the Cambridge International School our Learning Friends to keep. She also gave them the whole school photograph and the book about our school.

29 This is the Indian outfit Miss Hall ordered from the sari shop. She paid 270 Rupees. How much did she pay in Great British pounds?

30 During our assembly, we were able to talk to Miss Hall in India using a video call via Skype. She told us all about her time in India. She was wearing her new outfit and showed us her Mendi patterns and Bindi. Each class asked Miss Hall a question to find out more information about her time in India. The children in India did not celebrate World Book Day like we did. It was 3 o clock when we spoke to Miss Hall which was 8.30pm in India. The children were all curious to find out more information about India.

31 In class, we have been learning about Miss Hall s trip by watching the PowerPoint. We look forward to the daily updates about Miss Hall s adventures and it has taught us lots about India and Indian culture. What has been your favourite part of Miss Hall s adventure?

32 On Saturday, Miss Hall travelled to Amritsar, Punjab to visit the Golden Temple. The Golden Temple is regarded as the most sacred place of worship for Sikhs. It is mostly made out of marble but it is gold plated with real gold, which covers most of the outside portion

33 On Sunday, Miss Hall travelled to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is a famous mausoleum in India. A mausoleum is a building that contains burial chambers (tombs) for the deceased, they can be large or small and are often created in honour of influential people.
