2 Foothill High School Cheerleading Tryout Procedure - Information The Foothill High School Cheer Program is recognized as a sports activity. Cheerleaders are athletes with special talents, which include gymnastics, stunting and dance. All members of the cheer program perform the duties of crowd leading at a wide variety of sporting events and also compete in local, regional and national competitions. The cheerleaders set an example for others with their school spirit, leadership and commitment to their studies. This program is not for the faint hearted; it is demanding both in time and talent and each student is expected to maintain the highest GPA for which he or she is capable. All cheerleaders must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and will be ineligible to participate if they drop below a 2.0 and/or have 2 U s in citizenship. This information packet is designed to provide the necessary information needed to participate in cheer tryouts. If you have any questions or need clarification, please feel free to either of the coaches at nicole.foothillcheer@gmail.com (Coach Nicole) or ally.foothillcheer@gmail.com (Coach Ally). 1. If selected, each student must enroll in 6th period class (P.E credits for Freshmen and Sophomores and elective credits for Juniors and Seniors.) 2. Each student must have a current physical (yes even those returning) completed and on file at school no later than April 18 th, The physical must be completed within the month of March or April This is for the student and parents protection, as well as a school rule. Cheerleading is a highly specialized and demanding physical activity. Each student s safety, as well as the safety of others, depends upon his/her good health and abilities. 3. Foothill Cheer will have a Varsity team and JV team. Below is a brief description of the duties of each team: JV Team: Perform at Freshman and JV home Football games Select Varsity Football games Perform at Boys Freshman, Boys JV and Girls Varsity home Basketball games Assigned CIF games for all sports Perform at select Pep Assemblies Participate in parades and community performances as scheduled Perform at 3 6 competitions throughout the season Practice 2 3 days a week which includes occasional Saturdays with practices ranging from 2 4 hours

3 Varsity Team: Perform at home and away Varsity Football games Perform at home and away Boys Varsity Basketball games and away Girls Varsity Basketball games Assigned CIF games for all sports Perform at select Pep Assemblies Participate in parades and community performances as scheduled Perform at 3-6 competitions throughout the season Practice 2 3 days a week which include occasional Saturdays with practices ranging from 2-4 hours Both teams may be composed of students grades Alternates for Varsity will also be chosen at the discretion of the coaches. Alternates perform all the same duties and responsibilities as other Varsity members with the exception of the following: Varsity alternates will compete on JV and be moved up to compete on Varsity when needed 4. Students are required to attend all fundraising events to help support the program. There is no charge to participate in the Foothill High School Cheer program. However, this is an extremely expensive program to maintain. The previous season budget was close to $110, We are actively pursuing corporate sponsorships, family donations and lucrative fundraising ideas. The Booster Club is alive and well and encourages all parents to participate. All cheerleaders are required to attend all fundraisers and lack of full participation will impact his/her grade in the class. 5. All practices are MANDATORY! Work schedules, doctor appointments, vacations, haircuts and life in general must be planned around cheer schedules. Football, basketball and other sports games assigned are mandatory. Failure to attend practice or assigned games may result in benching, lower grades and/or possible removal from a team. 6. Cheer Camp will be held at the Pacific Palms Resort in Los Angeles, July 21-23, This is an elite AMP Camp and both JV and Varsity will attend. 7. Additional tumbling classes outside of scheduled practices are highly encouraged. Ask questions --- Don t wait until the last minute and ruin your chances because you misunderstood.
