2 HISTORICAL MILESTONES -University was founded on October 14, 1944 when the School of International Relations of the Moscow State University was reorganized into an independent institute. For quite a long time was the only educational establishment providing the country with highly skilled political and economic elite. The first enrollment comprised of 200 students who were destined to represent the country on international arena. In 1954 the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies, one of the oldest Russian institutes, the successor of the Lasarevsky School created in 1815, was integrated into. In 1958 incorporated the Institute of Foreign Trade, which had previously operated under the aegis of the USSR Ministry for Foreign Trade.

Under his tenure, in 1994 was granted the University status. It has embarked on a comprehensive program of educational modernization and innovation, including closer integration with European higher education, entrance into the Bologna process, the broadening of international contacts, and the elevation of the Institute to the forefront of international education and science. 17 GOING GLOBAL Every year students from almost 40 countries, including USA, Argentina, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, Norway, China etc., are enrolled in the University. The training of foreign nationals in started in 1946, since when more than 5000 international students have been granted with the University diplomas. More than 100 students are enrolled annually at joint Master s Degree programs, ½ of them are international students from Great Britain, Germany, France, Eastern European countries, USA and other.

23 ENDOWMENT FUND Endowment Fund, established in 2007, has become the first non-commercial organization of such a kind in Russia. Created with the aim of forming a purpose-oriented capital, it makes essential contributions to the University development. Endowment Fund enables to dynamically introduce innovations to academic activity, launch additional programs, upgrade university s material and technical assets and educate specialists. The Fund was established under the auspices of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, which is one more structure, facilitating promotion of innovation and quality assurance of education. Among other members of the Board of Trustees are esteemed alumni 37 top-ranking representatives of academic, political and business communities. 24 STUDENTS LIFE -University has vast infrastructure for its students to have all facilities required for studies, living, leisure & sports. Four residence halls are provided for students accommodation. The Sports Centre, situated at the university campus, has a large multi-purpose games hall, two gyms, a tennis court, a stadium, a shooting range and a swimming pool. The Cultural Centre offers students the possibility to engage in various activities during their free time. The centre has a longstanding tradition and history of hosting numerous interesting events and performances. library was established in Today it is a comprehensive and wellestablished research library containing over 700,000 volumes, including books and magazines in Russian and more than 50 foreign languages. Keeping up with introduction of advanced IT in education, has launched its E- Library which provides students 24/7 online access to digital versions of major IR publications and books.
