1 OECD unemployment rate stable at 7.6% in January 201 The OECD unemployment rate was stable at 7.6% in January 201. Across the OECD area, 6.2 million persons were unemployed, 3.8 million less than the peak in April 2010, but 11.5 million more than in July In the Euro area, the unemployment rate was stable at 12.0% in January. The unemployment rate increased in France (by 0.1 percentage point, to 10.9%) and Italy (by 0.2 percentage point, to 12.9%), while it decreased in Germany (by 0.1 percentage point, to 5.0%). Among other European countries, the largest falls in the unemployment rate were observed in the Slovak Republic (down 0.2 percentage point, to 13.6%, the 5 th consecutive month of decline) and in Denmark (down 0.2 percentage point, to 7.0%). By contrast, the unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points in Sweden (to 8.2%). Among other OECD countries, the unemployment rate fell in January in Canada (by 0.2 percentage point, to 7.0%) and in the United States (by 0.1 percentage point, to 6.6%), while it was stable in Japan (at 3.7%) and increased in Australia (by 0.2 percentage point, to 6.0%) and Korea (by 0.1 percentage point, to 3.2%). More recent data referring to February 201 show that the unemployment rate increased in the United States (by 0.1 percentage point, to 6.7%) while it was stable in Canada. In January 201, the unemployment rate for women in the OECD area decreased by 0.1 percentage point (to 7.7%), while it was stable for men (at 7.5%). The unemployment rate for youth rose by 0.2 percentage point, to 15.7%, but was 1.0 percentage point lower than one year ago. The youth unemployment rate remains exceptionally high in several Euro area countries, such as Greece (at 59.0% in November, the latest month available), Spain (at 5.6%), Italy (at 2.%), Portugal (at 3.7%) and the Slovak Republic (at 31.3%)., s.a.
