4 Introduction to this Guide The Getting Started Guide is a quick guide for the installation and use of Foglight for DB2 LUW, from the planning stage up to the actual monitoring of database instances. This document details first the installation prerequisites, including the required permissions, and then the actual monitoring of database instances. 6 1 Installing Foglight for DB2 LUW Foglight for DB2 LUW monitors DB2 database activity by connecting to, and querying, the DB2 database. The agents provided with the cartridge monitor the DB2 database system. The dashboards included with the cartridge provide a visual representation of the status of the major components of the DB2 agents. They allow you to determine any potential bottlenecks in database performance. Installation Prerequisites Before starting the the installation of Foglight for DB2 LUW, ensure that the following conditions are met: Using a supported system and platform. Foglight for DB2 LUW system requirements and supported platforms are identical to those of Foglight Management Server. For details, see Foglight System Requirements and Platform Support Guide. Using a Foglight license that allows cartridges to be installed. Ensure that the pre-existing Foglight license that is being used allows cartridge installation. If a license that does not allow cartridge installation is used, the installation wizard cannot proceed beyond the Foglight Management Server License screen, which requires specifying the type of license to be installed. Monitor Switches Collections Ensure that the following monitored switches are turned on: UOW, STATEMENT, LOCK, SORT, TABLE, BUFFERPOOL, and TIMESTAMP. These switches may cause additional overhead on the database manager. The relevant monitor switches can be turned on or off by updating the database manager configuration. 7 Foglight for DB2 LUW: Getting Started Guide 7 Chapter 1 Installing Foglight for DB2 LUW UNIX User Permissions and Installation Settings In order to run the db2 and db2ptree commands the user must have the SYSADMIN role and privileges. The Unix\Linux user running the above programs must have execute permissions (x) on all the programs. On AIX, the user must have setuid permissions on vmstat and iostat. On AIX, the user must have setgid permissions on PS. On Linux, the sysstat package must be installed to enable the user to get detailed disk I/O information. On Linux the /proc filesystem must be present. For connection using SSH, the sshd daemon must be installed and running. For connection using Telnet, a Telnet daemon must be installed and running. The UNIX user should have no special processing on log-on. In particular there must be no input required from the user, and special login banners should not be displayed. Windows User Permissions In order to run the db2 commands the user must have the SYSADMIN role and privileges. Also, the database user must be the instance owner. Windows WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) Access Foglight for DB2 LUW requires WMI access for monitoring Windows Operating System metrics on the various dashboards. Ensure that the WMI service is started and is accessible by the specified user prior to creating the agents and monitoring the process metrics. User Required Database Privileges The required user database privilege is SYSMON authorization on the monitored instance. Side-by-Side Cartridge Support The Foglight for DB2 LUW can work side-by-side with the legacy cartridge for DB2 (Cartridge for DB2 LUW version ) on versions of Foglight or vfoglight where the legacy cartridge is supported. Ensure that all the relevant programs are installed on the target operating system. See the Foglight for DB2 LUW Release Notes for additional details. Review the Foglight for DB2 LUW release notes to ensure that your monitored environment versions are supported by this release.

8 Foglight for DB2 LUW: Getting Started Guide 8 Chapter 1 Installing Foglight for DB2 LUW Installation Procedures Foglight for DB2 LUW runs on the Foglight Management Server, which is its operation framework. Therefore, Foglight Management Server must be installed before installing the cartridge. The installation of Foglight for DB2 LUW can be carried out using either of the following scenarios: Installing both Foglight for DB2 LUW and Foglight Management Server. For more information, see Installing Foglight for DB2 LUW and Foglight Management Server Together on page 8. Installing Foglight for DB2 LUW as a cartridge from within an existing Foglight Management Server. For more information, see Installing the Cartridge by Adding it to a Cartridge Inventory of an Existing Foglight Management Server on page 8. Installing Foglight for DB2 LUW and Foglight Management Server Together A single executable file allows installing Foglight Management Server together with Foglight for DB2 LUW. To run the combined installation file: 1 Copy the installation file appropriate to the operating system and the bit level (32-bit or 64- bit) to a temporary directory on the requested host. Note The combined installation file is named using the following convention: Foglight- <version_number>-db2-install_<operating system>-<instruction set><bit level><.exe/.bin>. For example: Foglight-5_6_4-DB2-install_windows-x86_64.exe or Foglight-5_6_4-DB2- install_solaris-x86_64.bin. 2 If planning to use an external database for the Foglight Management Server Installation, ensure that this database is running. 3 Follow the on-screen installation instructions. Installing the Cartridge by Adding it to a Cartridge Inventory of an Existing Foglight Management Server To install Foglight for DB2 LUW as a cartridge: 1 Copy the cartridge s car file (DB_DB2-VersionNumber.car; for example, DB_DB2-5_6_4.car), which is included in the installation media, to your local computer. 2 Log in to the Foglight browser interface. 3 In the browser interface, on the navigation panel, click Dashboards > Administration > Cartridges > Cartridge Inventory. 4 On the Cartridge Inventory dashboard, click Browse to find the car file on your local computer. 5 Click Install Cartridge.

10 2 Configuring Foglight for DB2 LUW After successful installation of Foglight for DB2 LUW, when entering the Foglight Management Server, no instances are displayed. The Foglight for DB2 LUW agent (DB_DB2) allows monitoring the database performance on each server where the application is installed. The automatic discovery wizard allows discovery of existing and running instances and databases, which you can then configure for Foglight monitoring. To monitor database instances: 1 Click the Monitor instances link at the upper left corner of the Databases view. 2 Select DB2 as the database type to configure. 3 Select the Agent Manager to be used for monitoring the discovered instances, and click Next. 4 Fill in the instance details, the coordinator details, and the requested credentials. 5 Click Next. 6 Ensure that the credentials entered are also relevant to the database and not just the instance level. 7 Click on the Add Database button and provide the requested information 8 Select the database instances that you want to monitor from the list. 9 Click Monitor to start monitoring the selected instances. Note Adding a database for a monitored instance is possible only via the Databases Management tab in the Global Administration.
