This server contains the document repository and the SDMS Service, a Windows service that implements and manages SDMS. SDMS is exposed to clients as a Web Service and, therefore, is a Web Server. This server component is frequently installed on the same server as the Statistica Enterprise Server and the system requirements for the Statistica Enterprise Server are sized to include the SDMS server. This document defines the requirements for stand-alone SDMS server. Server requirements are based on the number of users simultaneously accessing the system. The SDMS application should reside on a separate server not shared with other applications. Minimum requirements Operating System: Windows Server 2003 Processor: 512 MB 500 MHz 3

4 Recommended requirements Operating System: Processors: Windows Server 2008 R2 or later 2 GB 2.0 GHz, 64-bit, dual core 10 MB, plus document storage Document Storage SDMS stores all document content in the Document Repository on the local NTFS file system of the SDMS Server. SDMS stores each revision of each document in the system until such time as historical revisions are archived. In addition, for each revision of a document, a file containing document metadata is saved in the repository for use with the Microsoft Indexing Service to support searching for document content/properties. These proxy files are typically about 2 KB each. Therefore, how much space is needed depends on how many documents are in the system, the number of revisions, and file sizes. The required size of the repository could be estimated by the formula: Total size = (average file size + 2 KB) * number of document versions per time period * number of time periods The document repository can be configured using standard OS tools to compress the directory to save space if desired. File Permissions in Document Repository The user account that SDMS runs as (normally Local System) must have full file system permissions to read, write, delete, and create files in the document repository. Individual SDMS users do not need any file system permissions granted to the repository; access permissions for users of SDMS are controlled by SDMS itself. The Statistica Document Management System requires the installation of a database. supports the use of OLE DB compliant databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, and others. Database Server The Database Server is the server on which the relational database management system resides. This can be a separate server or can be the same as the SDMS Server. The Statistica Document Management System provides a proprietary database schema for storing SDMS objects, document metadata, user account information, permissions, etc. This schema is implemented on a new table space by the installation procedure. RDBMS: SDMS supports the use of Oracle 9 or later and SQL Server 2008 or later (including SQL Server Express). System Requirements: Consult the RDBMS manual or product information for operating system, memory and CPU requirements Backup Procedure: The SDMS database should be backed up regularly. Restorations of a backup should be performed periodically to test the backup/restoration procedures. In addition to backing up the database, the document repository should also be backed up. Note: Actual document content is not stored in the database but on the local file system of the SDMS Server. Database Permissions: The DBMS account that SDMS logs on to needs permissions in the database to allow select, update, delete, and insert in the SDMS schema. 4

5 Workstations: SDMS Explorer The SDMS Explorer is the client administration application for logging on to and managing documents within SDMS, often installed only on the SDMS server. It connects to the SDMS Server via a Web Service using the SOAP protocol over HTTP. Access to SDMS can be configured to work only within the corporate network for authenticated windows users, or can allow connections from users from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection (and an SDMS user name and password).
