1 Dear Parents and Cheerleaders: Welcome to cheerleading at Greater Atlanta Christian School! We are proud of a program that prides itself in athleticism, leadership, and promoting school spirit. We expect a lot from the students who participate in our program. Please read the enclosed materials and check all of the following to make sure that you have them ready to turn in to me by Tuesday, August 2. No late packets will be accepted! No one will be allowed to tryout unless all forms have been submitted and confirmed. All athletic and physical forms must be submitted using the Magnus Health SMR Login located on the MyGAC page under Athletics. 2 Cheerleading Tryout Schedule and other Information Eligibility: Anyone wishing to tryout for cheerleading at Greater Atlanta Christian School must have passed 5 out of 7 classes from the previous semester and must be on track for graduation. The student can have no major discipline referrals or frequent minor referrals within one calendar year before tryouts. When? Tuesday, August 2 Friday, August 5 3:00-5:00 pm Who? Rising 9 th 12 th graders Each cheerleader is expected to attend tryouts everyday. All tryout results will be announced individually on Thursday afternoon. Where? Bradford Gym Attire: Freshman and sophomores: Red shorts with plain white t-shirt Juniors and seniors: Black shorts with plain white t-shirt - Shorts should not be rolled down - Shirts should have no words - Athletic shoes (cheerleading shoes if you are a flyer) - Socks - No jewelry of any kind! - Hair must be worn off the shoulders - No long fingernails (they may not extend past your fingertips) Uniforms: There will be a uniform fitting the first week of school in August.

3 Varsity and JV spirit cheerleaders will purchase and keep their uniforms, so it is necessary that they fit properly. If you already have a uniform from last year, and are cheering on the same squad, it will not be necessary to purchase a uniform. However, if you are cheering on a squad for the first time it will be necessary to purchase a new uniform that has been fitted properly. Camp wear will also be used as practice uniforms and will be specified by the coach. New Varsity or JV Cheerleader: $1300* *These are approximate costs for a complete uniform, camp wear, and cheer camp, but do not include additional expense (pre-game meals, goody bags, themed games, etc.) that may be incurred throughout the year. You will be billed an itemized statement with actual costs on each cheerleader s account. All fees for uniforms, camp wear and camp must be paid in full at the time the order is placed. Non-payment of fees may result in dismissal from the squad. Practice: Practices will begin Tuesday, August 2 through Friday, August 5 from 3-5 p.m. in Spartan Gym for both Varsity and JV. Once school begins on Wednesday, August 10, practice will be: Monday 3:30-5:00 p.m. Bradford Gym JV & Varsity Tuesday 3:30-5:00 p.m. Bradford Gym JV & Varsity Thursday 3:30-5:00 p.m. Bricked Gallery Varsity Game Day Prep Attendance: We want to encourage your participation in all GAC activities however, please keep in mind your commitment to cheer. All members are expected to attend all practices and games. Excused absences: illness or emergency medical procedure, pre-approved GAC activity (such as mission trip), funeral & weddings of an immediate family member, written preapproval of participation in another GAC activity. Unexcused absences: test make-up, routine Dr. or dental appointment including physical, family vacations, church trips, tutoring, SAT/ACT testing, college visits, driver s ed. Members who have one or more unexcused absences from games will not letter and may be dismissed from the squad. Games: - All members are expected to ride the bus to every game but may ride home from games with parents with prior notification to the coach. For home games, please arrive 30 minutes before the start time of each scheduled event. All members must be picked up on time after each event. - Each member will be responsible for tasks at every game and will be expected to participate as a team player. - All members must be dressed in full uniform with poms, no-show socks, hair pulled up with cheer bow, and no jewelry.

4 - Each member should return to her cheering position one minute before halftime is over. - Each member will practice good sportsmanship at all times during a game. - Each member should remain in her cheering position throughout the entire game. There should be no bathroom breaks or sitting down during the game. - Squad members should execute their knowledge of the game through cheers and chants. - Squad members should avoid excessive talking among themselves and with members of the crowd during the game. - No eating or gum chewing during the game. - No cell phone usage during a game. All cell phones will be collected by the coach or assistant coach at the beginning of each game and returned at the end of the game. In the event of an emergency, the coach will allow access to a cell phone. In the event that a parent needs to contact a member during a game or event via cell phone, please contact the coach or assistant coach directly. Leadership: Team captains will be selected by the coach and will be responsible for providing leadership during practices and games. Personal Responsibilities: Cheerleaders are to be a positive example at school and in the community. As a member of the GAC squad, you will be expected to maintain a higher standard as outlined below: - Be punctual to class and with assignments. Grades must meet the standards set forth in the GAC Handbook for athletic participants. - Be modestly dressed and well groomed at all times, not just in uniform. We are blessed with younger children at GAC and they look to you as an example. - Uphold all GAC rules. Detentions or other infractions may result in disciplinary action. - Have a physical and general waiver agreement form on file in the GAC Athletic Office. - Work cooperatively with coaches, squad leaders and other members. - Be respectful to those you come in contact with both on and off the mat. This includes teachers, classmates, coaches, teammates, parents, siblings, opposing coaches and fans. We want to be a positive representative of our team, school, and the Lord. Spiritual Growth: Prior to each practice, game or activity, squad members will participate in a devotional prayer. We will practice the Golden Rule and greet opposing cheerleaders with words of encouragement and kindness. Parent Expectations: Parents will be assigned concession duty throughout the season. Parents are also asked to participate in selling ads for the Football Program. A percentage of all ads sold by the cheerleaders will be given back to our activity account. Parents are encouraged to volunteer in areas where they can make a positive impact on GAC and the squad, to include, but not limited to team parent, photographer, pre-games meals, etc.
