2 We are delighted that you are considering joining our successful sixth form. At Hamstead Hall Academy we believe that our Sixth Form is the stepping stone to every student s future life chances. Academic study is combined with extensive opportunities for enrichment. Students who leave our Sixth Form are enthusiastic, well-grounded and versatile young men and women who are excellently equipped to take their place in, and contribute to society. In the Sixth Form we offer our students the opportunity to excel academically, as well as helping them to develop and enhance leadership skills through a range of activities. Obtaining excellent qualifications is fundamental to Sixth Form life, but this is balanced with the aim of developing essential personal qualities through involvement in activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh s Award, peer mentoring and charitable work. pupils, such as in mathematics, work with primary children through the trust, voluntary work leading to accreditation in V-inspired awards, and taking part in fundraising activities to maintain, and visit, a school in the Gambia Please take the opportunity to come and meet us and to see for yourself the Sixth Form in action. Mr Farar and Mr Mortimer Heads of School In the recent Ofsted Inspection, it was stated that: Sixth form learners benefit from a highly effective 16 to 19 study programme which includes a rich variety of activities to enrich their learning. 3 Being here for seven years, I am able to say that I have substantial knowledge of what academy life is like. When I think of the academy, I think of a family and a community which has a real sense of belonging. There is a determination to make the lives of students better and the teachers go above and beyond to make sure that everyone reaches their full potential. The support system for every student is exceptional, we celebrate success and someone is always there for you if things do not go in the right direction. Hamstead Hall is one big family where bonds are made forever. Jagriti Dhillon - Head Girl (Year 13 Student) Welcome Established in 1994, Hamstead Hall Sixth Form Centre is one of the most successful post 16 provisions in Birmingham. The number of students has continued to grow each year with an increasing number of students joining us from other schools. Hamstead Hall Sixth Form has a long standing tradition of achieving high quality examination results. In 2016, all students achieved A* - E grades and over 50% of our students achieved A* - B grades. We are also delighted that over 90% of students have progressed onto University courses. The success of the Sixth Form is a result of extremely hard working students and staff. Everyone is provided with endless opportunities to develop academically, culturally and personally. All students are allocated a personal tutor throughout their time in the Sixth Form offering pastoral care, support and guidance. We firmly believe at Hamstead Hall that we develop the holistic student who will leave us having made outstanding progress, with high aspirations and positively contributed to our academy community. 2

5 Hamstead Hall is an amazing sixth form which has allowed me to gain high grades in all my A Levels. I exceeded the entry requirements for my current Nursing course at the University of Birmingham and gained an A2B Scholarship, because I achieved an A* in Economics and Business, and an A in Health and Social Care. The opportunities available at Hamstead Hall are endless! Alongside my A Levels I had the role of: Head Girl, a peer mentor, student librarian and many more, which improved my attractiveness when applying to University and boosted my career prospects as I gained experience for my CV. I am extremely grateful I chose Hamstead Hall Sixth Form to study my A Levels and have no regrets. 9 What do the students say? I have attended Hamstead Hall since Year 7 and my experiences are ones which I will never forget. There has always been a great support system in place and all teachers undoubtedly provide as much help as possible. Throughout my time at Hamstead Hall I have been presented with so many wonderful opportunities and I am excited about what the future holds on this fantastic journey. Nichole Birmingham (current year 12 student) Hamstead Hall is a place where you get the chance to be yourself and to ask questions and not be judged. I could not imagine leaving Hamstead Hall to go to another sixth form. It does not take long to settle into a new environment as you are never made to feel out of place or like you do not belong. You naturally find your feet, there are no pretences here and you have the opportunity to build foundations that will lead to greater heights. Hannah Chander (current year 12 student) The Sixth Form Induction programme makes Hamstead Hall a very welcoming Sixth Form and prepares all students for the challenges ahead. I Joined Hamstead Hall in Year 12 from another school and the experiences I had are ones which I will never forget. The sixth form provides a welcoming and friendly environment where there are amazing opportunities to flourish both socially and academically. Both my tutor and Head of Year were always there for me and encouraged me to reach my full potential. I was fortunate enough to be a Student Ambassador, attended summer schools and university master classes which ensured a smooth transition from A-Levels to University. My two years at Hamstead Hall helped me develop skills and qualities such as confidence and team work. Teaching is of a high standard and help was always available both during and after school. I achieved an A* grade in Economics and Business, C grades in both Maths and Biology and I am now at Aston University studying Accounting. Mariyam Zia Class of 2016 (A*,C, C) 8
