Full of hintsyour and tips We hope this pack will do the same. to help make fundraising simple andyou ll successful find a few ideas to help inspire you, plus some general advice on how to make the most of your code and get your fundraising off to a flying start.

3 Make it personal Personalising your code will help people identify you and make it more memorable. You can do this when you edit your JustTextGiving page. Let people know exactly how to use the code by using a simple message such as: Text MARY92 3 Choose any value from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10. It probably works best if you choose one value in your message. Help us raise money to fix our old roof. Text MARY92 3 Now all you need to do is share your code with everyone you know and maybe a few people you don t.

4 Spread the word Making the most of your JustTextGiving fundraising pack Whether you re bathing in baked beans or running the marathon it s important that as many people as possible hear about it. So spread the word using social media and traditional posters and leaflets. The more personal you make your message the more engaging and memorable it will be. Remember to put your personal JustTextGiving code on everything you do.

5 Spread your JustTextGiving code across your social network Get social Facebook Set up a dedicated page or create a group and invite people to join. Use the digital assets that come with this pack to update your profile and cover images. Twitter Tweet your code at every opportunity and add updated photos of your fundraising efforts. Write a blog Tell people why you are doing this, the story behind your choice of charity and how their support will help. Then update it whenever you can. Add your JustTextGiving code to your signature and Out of Office response. For example Text MARY92 3 and help me raise money for my local hospice. Video Diary This is a really fun, personal way to keep your supporters up to date with your fundraising.

6 Get local Make your fundraising efforts as visible as possible Use the templates that come with this pack to get creative and design your own posters. You can also print out stickers and business cards. Individual fundraisers can even include a photo and charities can upload their logo. There s a simple upload guide on the website to help you get the best quality. Once you ve printed out all your materials, distribute them in as many places as possible. Hand them out at the pub or social events like concerts and fetes. Pin them up at schools, colleges, work, community notice boards, local shops and the reception or shops of the charity you re fundraising for. 7 Fundraising events Events, auctions and challenges are a great way to raise money. We ve listed a few here to get you started but with a little imagination we re sure you can come up with loads more, or why not have a hunt on the internet for other ideas? A fun event Hold a pub quiz, a bingo night, a street party, a football match or a coffee morning. Organize a jumble sale or a swap shop. At work have a cake sale or charge everyone a pound to wear their onesie all day two pounds for the chicken s who don t. An auction or raffle Ask local businesses like restaurants and beauticians to donate meals or treatments as prizes. Other local shops may give a basket of goodies or services. You could offer your own services like a day of gardening or bake a big cake as a prize.

8 More fundraising events Offer your services Wash cars, paint nails, mow the lawn, shine shoes, do the ironing or be a taxi service for the evening. At work you could do all the boring stuff like photocopying or filing or just make tea for everyone for the day. Challenge Challenge others to guess the cake weight or number of sweets in the jar. Challenge yourself to give up chocolate for a month, have an unusual hair cut, go left handed for the day, hula hoop for an hour, men get your legs waxed, see how many dry crackers you can eat, climb a mountain, bathe in baked beans the list is endless.

9 Some extra hints and tips TEXT MARY92 3 TO Here are a few more ways to get people on board with your fundraising efforts: Special occasions: If it s your birthday or a special occasion during your fundraising campaign, ask people to donate the price of a card or present. Use your network: Don t forget to ask your friends and family to help you out - give them your fundraising material and JustTextGiving code and they can help spread the word. Wear your code: Print it onto t-shirts to wear while you re training, on the bus or to work. Work: Send out an to let your colleagues know what you are up to and include your JustTextGiving code (make sure it s ok with your boss first). Some employers may even match what you raise, so check this with your boss or the HR team. Where will their money go? Give people a reason to get behind you. Find out exactly what the donations will be used for and let your supporters know that their 10 will provide one child s set of school equipment for six months, for example. THANK YOU!

10 Even more hints and tips Local media: Get in touch with your local newspaper, community blog, magazine or radio station and tell them what you are doing. Drop them an with all the details what you are fundraising for, why you are doing it and when it s all happening Results: Don t forget to let everyone know how your fundraising went once you ve totted up the grand total. Tell them where their money went, how they ve helped and what s next. Then why not keep the story going. Did you know 20% of funds are raised after an event?

11 General advice Obviously however you fundraise it s important that you stay legal and safe. Check the laws on raffles and auctions before going ahead. Keeping things simple will help you focus and you ll enjoy it more. Your supporters and helpers will really appreciate a few words of thanks when you let them know how you got on. Gift Aid Always encourage those that are donating to you to sign up to Gift Aid. If they re a UK tax payer, adding Gift Aid on donations means your charity can reclaim the basic rate of tax on your gift. That s a whopping 25p for every 1 donated, and really adds up. Legal considerations Competitions: you must not link donating to your code as entry into a competition. e.g. people can t text a donation to purchase a raffle ticket or to enter a Free Prize Draw.
