Our Youth Aquatic and Adventure Camp not only provides aquatic and safety skills, but also includes: a development in self-confidence, an increase of both individual and group responsibility and encouragement of intrapersonal and leadership skills. Counselors lead and facilitate all aquatic and team-building activities, as well as enjoy a fun job in the outdoors. 2 YOUTH AQUATIC AND ADVENTURE CAMP COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Full and part-time instructors for Youth Aquatic and Adventure Camp JOB DESCRIPTION: Individuals who are part of the youth aquatic and adventure camp are responsible for instructing and leading outdoor aquatic activities for youth between the ages of ten and seventeen, while promoting water and boating safety. The staff facilitate team-building activities that help develop self-confidence, self-esteem, and individual skills development among camp participants. These individuals also provide consistent leadership including counseling, advising, and supervising camp participants. Staff will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all the camp participants and facilitating groups and individuals in a manner that is consistent with Center Activities overall philosophy. We value teamwork, safety/risk management consciousness and hardworking individuals who have a fun attitude/approach toward working with youth. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Minimum of a high school diploma. Must be at least 18 years of age. Certifications: Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer (both First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer are usually included as part of the Lifeguarding certification) required prior to the first day of employment. Swiftwater Rescue, Wilderness First Responder/Aid, and/or EMT certifications strongly preferred. Class B Driver s license is required by June 1, Center Activities will provide driver training. Live Scan Background check and a T.B. test will need to be completed prior to training. Experience: Experience in working with youth, adventure based programming, environmental education, and/or similar programs. Looking for individuals who enjoy working with kids and who are positive individuals. Individuals should have personal or professional experience in at least one of the aquatic activities and should be a strong swimmer. RESPONSIBILITIES: Instruct aquatic activities including: kayaking, canoeing, Pico sailing, Laser sailing, and surfing Practice and promote safe boating skills. Facilitate group games, initiative and group building/bonding activities, conflict management, and environmental education. Help participants develop self-confidence, self-esteem, a sense of group community and safety skills through group processing, discussions, participating in the activities described above, as well as through personal example. Facilitate individuals and groups in a manner that helps establish acceptable behaviors, while maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment for all. Assist in facility and equipment upkeep, including: cleaning boathouse and other facilities, public campgrounds, equipment, vans, and trailers as needed to keep them looking presentable. Assist in overnight campout responsibilities, including: shopping, kitchen set-up, meal preparation and clean-up, group initiatives and games, promoting group cooperation, and supervising the group through the night. Transport campers and trailers with camp vehicles. Assist in logistical and administrative support such as camp check-in/out and maintenance of participant paperwork. Recognize and respond to first-aid emergencies. Presentation of a positive image of Center Activities through appearance and contacts with local population while employed by Center Activities. COMPENSATION: Pay scale depends on previous experience, certifications/degrees, time commitment and years working with Center Activities.
