In operation for over 60 years on beautiful Elk Lake, VCRC provides year round competitive and recreational rowing programs for all skill levels and ages. The VCRC Masters are a diverse and active group of Competitive for Life and Active for Life athletes, ranging from years old, and from novices to highly skilled rowers. VCRC Values (draft) Community, Excellence, Development, Rower-centered, Civility/Respect & Integrity, Trust, Safety 3.0 PURPOSE OF POSITION Reporting to the VCRC Club Manager and working with an assistant Masters coach, the VCRC Masters Program Head Coach shall be responsible for leading, developing, coordinating and coaching the VCRC Masters Program, in a manner consistent with VCRC s Vision, Mission and Values; VCRC s budget; and with Long Term Athlete Development (as described in Rowing Canada Aviron s LTAD plan). 4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 4.1 Masters Program Development Continue to develop and implement a VCRC Masters Program that meets the needs of VCRC members, facilitates their continued development, and is suited to adults in the Active for Life and Competitive for Life stages. Work with the VCRC Club Manager, VCRC Masters Committee and the VCRC Board of Directors to develop a 3 year plan for the VCRC Masters program that will help VCRC meet the goals outlined in VCRC s Strategic Plan and continue to develop the VCRC Masters program. Work with the VCRC Programs Co-ordinator to develop programming that provides a clear, coherent, consistent development pathway for adults, and to facilitate smooth transition of athletes from entry level programs to the VCRC Masters Program. Hire, orient and supervise an assistant Masters Coach. Consult with VCRC Club Manager and VCRC Masters Committee in a collaborative manner on the development and implementation of the VCRC Masters Program.

4 4.2 Coaching and Athlete Development VICTORIA CITY ROWING CLUB Coach the year round VCRC Masters program. There are typically 5-7 coached sessions per week, year round, although the schedule (the number of sessions/week and the proportion of onwater and dryland sessions) can be adjusted to suit member and coach needs, and seasonal variations in group numbers, hours of daylight, and training goals. Coaching responsibilities include: Develop and implement annual and seasonal training plans for the VCRC Masters Program that accommodate a variety of goals, skill levels and fitness levels within the group. Provide regular, consistent technical feedback to individuals and crews. Provide ongoing encouragement and support to VCRC Masters members, helping them reach their goals and enjoy rowing. Ensure on-water safety of VCRC Masters training group, adhering to VRS Safety Manual and Transport Canada Regulations as they apply to rowing. Set boatings and allocate equipment for workouts. Supervise assistant coach. Some athletes may request coaching above and beyond that provided by the regular VCRC Masters training program. The VCRC Masters Head Coach may provide private coaching beyond the schedule agreed to with the Club Manager, according to the VCRC Private Coaching Policy. 4.3 Regattas Prepare VCRC Masters athletes and crews for targeted regattas. Coach and support VCRC Masters athletes at local regattas. Coaching at away regattas is not required, but will sometimes be requested by athletes. Expenses and a coach s honorarium are typically provided by athletes attending the regatta in question. Coordinate, collect and submit all VCRC Masters entries for regattas. In consultation with VCRC Junior and Senior Program Head Coaches, allocate equipment for regattas and co-ordinate its transportation. 4.4 Administration In cooperation with VCRC Club Manager, maintain and disseminate information on VCRC Masters Program. 4.5 Communication Respond to enquiries from VCRC Masters members and prospective members. Keep VCRC Masters members informed about training plans and schedules, boatings, hull allocation, regattas and other aspects of the VCRC Masters Programs Communicate transparent VCRC Masters Program information VCRC Club Manager. In collaboration with the VCRC Club Manager, ensure that VCRC Vision, Mission, Values and Policies (especially with regard to safety and equipment) are understood and adhered to by all VCRC Masters athletes. 4.6 Equipment Inform VCRC Club Manager of all equipment and other needs of the VCRC Masters Program. Liaise with boatman, VCRC Club Manager and other VCRC coaches to ensure equipment is in working order for the VCRC Masters Program. Coordinate boat/equipment use for training and regattas with all other VCRC coaches. 5.0 DEGREES OF SUPERVISION The VCRC Masters Program Head Coach shall report to the VCRC Club Manager and be ultimately responsible to the VCRC Board of Directors. 6.0 POWER OF DECISION The VCRC Masters Program Head Coach shall participate in meetings specific to the job requirements and will be responsible to make recommendations to VCRC Club Manager and/or VCRC Board of Directors where necessary. The individual will have sufficient

5 authority to act in the management of VCRC Masters Program areas in accordance with the VCRC Vision, Mission, Values and Policies. Beyond these limits, the individual is required to have decisions approved by the VCRC Club Manager. 7.0 NATURE OF POSITION AND LINKS VCRC Club Manager Kept up to date on VCRC Masters Program schedules, equipment needs, competitions, and regattas. All VCRC Coaches Liaise regularly to ensure smooth scheduling of programs and equipment. VRS Operations Committee One of two VCRC representatives. VRS and ALL other lake users Maintain respectful relationships.
