Congratulations You have just purchased one of the many fine Andersen products. For ease of installation and continued enjoyment of your Andersen product, please read and follow this Instruction Guide completely. If your abilities do not match this procedure's requirements contact an experienced contractor. You may direct any questions about this or other products to your local Andersen dealer. Important Safety, Assembly, and Installation Information Proper assembly, installation and maintenance of Andersen products is essential if the benefits of experienced product design and engineering, quality materials, and skilled workmanship are to be fully attained. Every assembly and installation is different (windloads, structural support, etc.) and, Andersen strongly recommends consultation with an Andersen supplier or an experienced contractor, architect, or structural engineer prior to the assembly and installation of any Andersen product. Assembly and installation of Andersen products is the sole responsibility of the architect, building owner, contractor and/or consumer and Andersen has no responsibility in this regard. WARNING WARNING WARNING Use of ladders and/or scaffolding and working at elevated levels may be hazardous. Follow equipment manufacturer's instructions for safe operation. Use extreme caution when working around window and door openings. Personal injury and/or falls could occur. Improper use of hand or power tools could result in personal injury and/or product damage. Follow equipment manufacturer's instructions for safe operation. Always wear safety glasses. Weight of window and door unit(s) and accessories will vary. Use a reasonable number of people with sufficient strength to lift, carry, and install window and door unit(s) and accessories. Always use appropriate lifting techniques. CAUTION Unless specifically ordered, Andersen windows are not equipped with safety glass, and if broken, could fragment causing injury. Many laws and building codes require safety glass in locations adjacent to or near doors. Andersen windows are available with safety glass that may reduce the likelihood of injury when broken. Information on safety glass is available from your local Andersen dealer. Do not apply any type of film to glass. Thermal stress conditions resulting in glass damage could occur. The use of movable insulating materials such as window coverings, shutters, and other shading devices may damage glass and/or vinyl. 2 Parts Included (1) (1) Outside Trim Strip (1) Optional Accessories Extension Jambs Installation Tools and Supplies Needed: Safety Glasses Caulk Gun Tape Measure Hammer Utility Knife Clamps Sheathing Pencil 1/2" Staples 1-3/4" Roofing Nails (Unit Color) Arch Segment Standard Outside Trim Strip Palladian Trapezoid 1. Prepare Rough Opening Frame Rough Opening to dimensions recommended in the Andersen Residential Product Guide or prepare an existing Rough Opening. Masonry Rough Opening must be 1/2" greater than unit width and height. Apply a strip of Exterior Sheathing to face of Mullion Supports. Make sure sill plates are level by checking with a level. Shim sill plates to level. Make sure Rough Opening is plumb by checking with a level. Make sure Rough Opening is square by placing tape measure diagonally across the opening, upper left to lower right and upper right to lower left corner. Prepare Installation Flanges NOTICE Installation Flanges are generally not used in replacement situations where exterior finish (siding, brick veneer, stucco) is already applied or in some masonry installations. If Installation Flanges are not required, discard them and proceed to Step 5. Arch or Springline Unit Bottom of Head Installation Flange Flexiframe Unit Position Installation Flanges, short leg down in position next to unit. 1-1/2" off the short leg on bottom of Side Installation Flanges to allow for correct overlap. 1-1/2" off the short leg on ends of the Head Installation Flange. Bottom of Side Installation Flange Installation Flange 1-1/2" Tin Snips Short Leg 3. Apply Installation Flanges CAUTION Installation Flange Wood Block Head Installation Flanges must overlap Side Installation Flanges to the exterior and Side Installation Flanges must overlap Sill Installation Flanges to the exterior to prevent water infiltration. Insert Sill Installation Flange, short leg down, into kerf on sill making sure ends are flush with unit. Place wood block against short leg and tap until fully seated. Apply Side Installation Flange making sure bottom end overlaps to the exterior. Apply Head Installation Flange making sure that ends overlaps to the exterior. If required, apply Side Jamb Clips. Refer to Step 6. Arch or Springline Units Flexiframe Units Installation Flange Wood Block NOTICE Installation Flanges can be reversed to accommodate 4-1/8" wall thickness. 4 4. Install Center Unit CAUTION Mullion Support 1-3/4" Roofing Nail 1-3/4" Roofing Nail Nail corners of Center Unit only to allow 's Installation Flanges to overlap. Center Unit Install Center Unit in opening. Center, level, and square the unit in opening, and nail through Installation Flange corners using 1-3/4" roofing nails. Center Unit Installation Flange 1-3/4" Roofing Nail 1-3/4" Roofing Nail 5. Install s Install s by using the Wood Filler Piece to correctly space units. Remove after correct location has been determined. Level and square s. Nail through both End and Center Unit Installation Flanges and around entire perimeter of units using 1-3/4" roofing nails spacing 10" apart. NOTICE For Trapezoid or Arch segmental support mulls, angle cut top ends of flush with top of units. Spacing Location Mullion Support Installation Flange 6. Attach Position with painted end facing down and flush with bottom of the sill. Attach using 2-1/2" (8d) casing nails. Do not nail into s. Wood Filler Piece 4

5 7. Apply Seal Applying a 3/8" bead of, full length, to both edges of Wood Filler Piece where it meets sides of unit. Edges of Wood Filler Piece 8. Apply Trim Strip Apply Trim Strip starting flush with bottom of sill pressing Trim Strip legs into. Using a hammer and wood block, carefully tap Trim Strip in place until tight contact is made with units on both sides from top to bottom. Apply to both top and bottom of the Trim Strip and smooth out. Remove any excess silicone with Naptha. Trim Strip Trim Strip Trim Strip 9. 6 10. Apply CAUTION When applying, the temperature of the Units and Flashing must be 60 F (15.6 C) or warmer. Insufficient adhesion may result if applied at colder temperatures. Clear Protective Backing Clean top surface of unit 6" on both sides of mullion joint. Remove clear protective backing from adhesive strip on.
