3 Copper Ridge Uniform Policy Uniform Policy Copper Ridge School has a Uniform Dress Policy for kindergarten through eighth grade students. The Uniform Policy gives the school a positive and distinctive identity and reflects the values of the school and community. Students are required to conform to the Uniform Policy each day. I. Uniform Requirements and Guidelines A. Uniform Requirements: Kindergartners through eighth grade students are restricted to the following clothing: Shirts Acceptable shirts must be collared, plain, and solid in color (light blue, navy blue, white or black) with a minimum of short sleeves. Note: royal blue, teal and other shades of blue are not permissible. Sweatshirts Sweaters Over Shirts Jackets Coats allowed on shirts. Exception: Shirts imprinted with the Copper Ridge logo are acceptable. Shirts may not be decorated with rhinestones, sequins, lace, embroidery, or any other decorative material. All shirts should be not be oversized or undersized and should not reveal the midriff. Display of undergarments such as tank tops, underwear, boxers, or bra straps is not allowed All sweatshirts, sweaters, jackets, over shirts, or coats worn on campus must be plain and solid in color (light blue, navy blue, white, or black) and must fit properly. 4 Pants Pants or capris must be plain and solid in color (navy blue, tan (khaki) or black). allowed on pants. Exception: Pants or capris imprinted with the Copper Ridge logo are acceptable. Pants or capris may not be decorated with rhinestones, sequins, lace, embroidery, or any other decorative material. Leggings, tights and yoga pants are allowed under skirts, skorts, jumpers, and polo-style dresses only and must be plain and solid in color (white, navy blue, tan (khaki), or black). Leggings, tights and yoga pants may not be worn alone. No denim of any color is allowed. All pants must be hemmed. Shorts Display of undergarments such as tank-tops, underwear, boxers, or bra straps is not allowed. Shorts must be plain and solid in color (navy blue, tan (khaki) or black). allowed on shorts. Exception: Shorts imprinted with the Copper Ridge logo are acceptable. Shorts may not be decorated with rhinestones, sequins, lace, embroidery, or any other decorative material. Shorts must hang no lower than just below the knee. Shorts must hang no higher than three inches above the kneecap. Rolling of shorts is unacceptable. No denim of any color is allowed. All shorts must be hemmed. Display of undergarments such as tank-tops, underwear, boxers, or bra straps is not allowed.

5 Skirts Skorts Jumpers Dresses Skirts, skorts, jumpers and polo-style dresses must be plain and solid in color (navy blue, tan (khaki) or black). Acceptable shirts under jumpers must be collared, plain, and solid in color (light blue, navy blue, white or black) with a minimum of short sleeves. Note: royal blue, teal and other shades of blue are not permissible. allowed on skirts, skorts, jumpers or polo-style dresses. Exception: Skirts, skorts, jumpers or polostyle dresses imprinted with the Copper Ridge logo are acceptable. Skirts, skorts, jumpers, and polo-style dresses may not be decorated with rhinestones, sequins, lace, embroidery, or any other decorative material. Leggings, tights, and yoga pants are allowed under skirts, skorts, jumpers or polo-style dresses only and must be plain and solid in color (white, navy blue, tan (khaki), or black). Leggings, tights and yoga pants may not be worn alone. Skirts, skorts, jumpers, and polo-style dress made of spandex material is unacceptable. Skirts, skorts, jumpers, and polo-style dresses must hang no higher than three inches above the kneecap. Rolling of skirts is unacceptable. No denim of any color is allowed. All skirts, skorts, jumpers, and polo-style dresses must be hemmed. (Leggings, tights or yoga pants may only be worn under skirt, skort, jumper or dress) Shoes Socks Display of undergarments such as tank-tops, underwear, boxers, or bra straps is not allowed. For safety reasons, closed toe shoes or tennis shoes are highly recommended. Due to the danger they present, flip-flops, clogs, high heels, platforms and sandals are discouraged. Socks for boys and girls must be plain and solid in color (white, navy blue, tan (khaki) or black). allowed on socks. Exception: Socks imprinted with the Copper Ridge logo are acceptable.

6 Hair Makeup Jewelry Hats Belts Hair, make-up and jewelry are expected to be age appropriate and not distracting to the learning environment of the wearer and/or other students. Students at Copper Ridge may wear lanyards in accordance with SUSD Code of Conduct dress code as a mandatory dress item for student identification. Baseball caps, knit-fitted hats, and headscarves may be worn OUTSIDE ONLY. Belts are to be plain leather or cloth and solid in color (navy blue, tan (khaki), black). allowed on belts. Belts and belt buckles may not be decorative or ornate in fashion including metal studs, extra rivets, rhinestones, sequins, lace, embroidery, or any other decorative material. Belts must fit normally around the waist and no part of the belt may hang down. Athletic/ Scout Uniforms Friday Spirit Days Principal approved organizations (i.e. Brownies/Girl Scouts, Cub/Boy Scouts, CRS Athletics) may be allowed to wear their uniform on the day of the event as long as it meets SUSD requirements. T-Shirts imprinted with the Copper Ridge logo and denim bottoms are permissible on Fridays. - No other exceptions to the above stated policies are allowed on Fridays. Principal may approve Uniform Policy incentives. (must be no shorter than 3 inches above knees) II. Interpretation and Violations (Uniform Policy) A. Interpretation: CRS Administration or teachers may question the dress of any student. The CRS Principal and Assistant Principals will have complete and final judgment on all matters concerning interpretation of the standard of dress policy. Matters concerning appearance and dress not specifically covered in the standard of dress guidelines shall be within the discretion of the Principal or Assistant Principals. (Reference Uniform Code of Student Conduct) as follows:

7 Immodest or distracting dress or appearance of any type is not permitted. This is not confined to clothing, but also includes fads in hairstyles, makeup or other distractions that would, in the opinion of the Principal or Assistant Principals, tend to promote student disruption, jeopardize student conduct or otherwise interfere with the educational process. Clothing or appearance will be considered inappropriate if, in the judgment of the Principal or Assistant Principals, it presents a risk to the health, safety or general welfare of the students, staff or others by the following: 1. Interferes with or disrupts the educational environment or process; 2. Is counterproductive to the curriculum goals or educational objectives; 3. Produces disorder or creates an atmosphere of threat, intimidation or undue pressure; or 4. Causes excessive wear or damage to school property. B. Consequences of Violation First Violation: - The Copper Ridge School Uniform Policy/Dress Code Violation Form is filled out and sent home with the student for parent/guardian signature and needs to be returned the next school day. - Referral to the office (if necessary) to align clothing with the dress code as follows: - Turn clothing inside out if it reveals something inappropriate; - Change into clothing that may be provided by the school; - Have other clothing brought to school; or - Remove the accessory. Second Violation: - Same procedure as first violation with the addition of a phone call home in order to ensure appropriate communication. Third Violation: - The student may receive a Scottsdale Unified School District Conduct Referral citing student insubordination with respect to dress code compliance. Behavior intervention may include daily check-in with administration. Further Violations: - Could result in more severe disciplinary procedures, including suspension, in accordance with any other provision of Article B of the Uniform Code of School Conduct that is violated as a result of the dress code infraction.
