Pennsylvania is divided into 5 regions, each with its own unique characteristics. PA is rich in natural resources that are harvested, mined, and incorporated into businesses and livelihoods. -Identify, locate, and describe places through mapping and modeling activities: 5 PA regions and major cities -Use knowledge of phonics to decode and understand new vocabulary -acquire a reading vocabulary by partner reading and whole-group reading -use vocabulary correctly in map projects -demonstrate through writing assignments, worksheets, and projects an understanding of fiction and nonfiction text: summarize, make connections -read and demonstrate an understanding of informational text and documents through activity completions, discussions, and think/pair/shares -identify geographic tools and their uses in relation to farming -identify different types of farms and their purposes through concept webs -identify and describe farm products derived from the soil -identify why forests are important to people and wildlife through graphic organizers -research several forests products -identify positive/negative effects of people on physical systems -explain the relationship between people and animals and the environment -describe the importance of agriculture on humans -Identify the role of sciences on PA agriculture -display the relationship between food and fibers and animals and plants Page 1 of 5
