Mr. Creighton Bryan, Assistant Principal October 3, 2015 News From the Principals No School Monday, October 5-Fair Day UIL Academic Team Tryout Schedule is located on page 3 and on the Davis Webpage. Tryouts are the week of October 6-9 before and after school. Students may tryout for multiple events; however, they are only allowed to participate in one contest area. Should a student be offered a position on more than one team, he/she will be asked to choose. The only exception to this is Ready Writing. Students who are selected for Ready Writing may participate on a second UIL team. Collin County Adventure Camp October 14-16, 2015: There will be a chaperone meeting on October 8 at 6:30pm in the Davis Media Center. There will also be one last parent meeting on October 8 at 7:15 pm at Davis to address questions. The packing list and medication authorization consent form are available on the Davis Webpage (left hand side under Adventure Camp). Dress Code: A couple of reminders: Sweatshirts must be a solid color with a credit card size logo unless they are a college sweatshirt or WISD spirit wear sweatshirt College T-shirts on Thursdays with standard dress from the waist down Davis Spirit Wear shirts are acceptable on Fridays Jeans on Fridays (jeans was a privilege earned by our increase in PTA enrollment) Construction: Construction fencing will be installed very soon. We anticipating this to happen by the end of next week. The construction overview is as follows: Four additional classrooms will be added to the first and second floors Additional student and staff restrooms to both floors Outside staircase becomes and inside staircase Cafeteria expansion Second gymnasium With the onset of construction will come challenges. We am asking in advance for everyone patience and cooperation with traffic flow. In addition, we may have to forego the recess time we provide during lunch due to safety concerns. We will do my best to give periodic updates. Completion is expected by the end of December Information from PTA is on the next page. 2 News from PTA PTA table set up by the elevators on the following Friday mornings for spirit wear sales, football spirit night tickets, memberships, yearbook sales, all things related to PTA: 10/2, 10/9 and 10/23 Spirit Night: Tuesday, October 6 at Chili s. Football Tickets: We will have a Football Spirit Night on Friday, Oct 16 th for the Wylie East Homecoming Game vs. Love Joy. We will begin selling tickets Friday, Oct 2 in the morning at the PTA table. We ve also attached an order form that may be sent in with your student. We will also be at school selling them on Tuesday, Oct 6, Friday, Oct 9, and Tuesday, Oct 13. All Tickets will be sent home on Tuesday, Oct 13. National Bike/Walk To School Day: Help us celebrate National Bike/ Walk to School Day! Park the car and walk or ride your bike. Students will be greeted by Mayor Hogue, Wylie Police Department, Wylie Fire Department, and members of the National Guard. See attached flyer. University Shirts: Don t forget to order your specific university shirt. These are only available until Friday, Oct 9. Order form on page 5. Fundraiser Party: On Friday, October 9 the Fundraiser Limo Rides for sales of 20 orders or more are 11:00am-1:00pm, and the Party for sales of 10 orders or more is 1:00-3:30pm. Permission forms will come home this week. Please sign and return as soon as possible. Yearbook: Order your yearbook by Friday, Oct 30 to save $5.00 of the price!! Forms are available at the front office Don t Stand By, Stand Up- Save the Date! Davis will be hosting an anti-bullying program on Thursday, Oct 22 nd at 6:00 p.m. Don t Stand By, Stand Up is a Texas PTA Program developed for parents. We will have childcare set up in the gym for students 5 and over. Flyer is attached for it. Box Tops: The contest has started! The university with the most box tops turned in wins a silly string party! Start clipping and place your box tops in the correct college container in the library. Hurry! Contest ends Thursday, Oct 22. Volunteers: PTA has a lot of activities coming up and we need your help. Please fill out the attached form and help us support Davis with family programs and events. Reflections Art contest is an exciting and rewarding way to let your child showcase their artistic talents in a variety of ways. The program allows students to create and submit works of art in six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and visual arts. This year's theme is "Let Your Imagination Fly..." This is a pretty broad theme so we anticipate great participation! The entry forms have been posted on the Davis website and in the main hallway at the school. Membership: Our new goal is to reach 300 members. When we reach 300 members, we will provide a popsicle party for all students once a month for the entire year. Who all can join PTA?
