We are very excited about the upcoming school year and look forward to providing our students with some wonderful educational opportunities. Your enthusiasm, donations, and volunteering time made last year a record year for the PTO. Through everyone s hard work, we were able to provide field trips, assemblies, supplies, and the equipment for an amazing new STEAM Lab! This year, the funds raised will continue to pay for: 1. Class field trips including bus transportation for our students 2. Educational assemblies 3. School activities 4. Purchasing of equipment/tools for our school In order to provide MCCS with our support, we need your help in the following ways: 1. Volunteering: We could not run all of our events successfully without the help of our fantastic volunteers! Any amount of time is greatly appreciated and counts towards your 6-hour quarterly volunteer commitment. Don t forget to record your hours on the PTO website. We look forward to working with all MCCS families this year! 2. Fundraising: Please consider participating in upcoming fundraisers during the school year, including but not limited to, Box Tops for Education, Store Cards (more information on the PTO website) and Breakfast with Santa. Every little bit helps and 100% of all money raised goes directly to our school. The PTO Board thanks you in advance for your time and commitment to MCCS. 3 WHY Support Your PTO? Top 4 ways YOUR participation helps MCCS 1. Field Trips: Help extend your child s learning experience beyond the classroom. Trips to area farms, The Kennedy Center, the Shenandoah Discovery Museum, and Camp Flintlock were just some of the educational field trips MCCS students took part in last year with the support of their PTO. 2. Educational Assemblies: Did your child come home talking about the indoor planetarium or sea creatures last year? Student enthusiasm and laughter abound at MCCS assemblies! The fun doesn t stop with our students, Leo Talks are held for our parents on a quarterly basis giving YOU the opportunity to hear more about the MCCS curriculum or the latest in educational research. 3. Fun School Activities: Show your school spirit at exciting PTO activities, including our Back-to-School Picnic, Western Dance & BBQ, Spirit Nights and Teacher Appreciation Week! 4. Allows for the Purchasing of School Equipment: Last year, the PTO was able to purchase tablets, Legos, robotics, and many other supplies to outfit a brand new STEAM Lab to enhance learning at MCCS. We hope to continue to be able to provide MCCS with new equipment and technology this year. These programs would not be possible for MCCS students without you! EVERY family is a member of the PTO at MCCS! There are no dues; you contribute time and resources to help us succeed!! 5 PTO Committees & Chairs How Can I Get Involved? Below is a listing of the PTO Committees, a sample of the activities Chairs are responsible for overseeing. Chairs are NOT responsible for running each activity, but coordinate between the PTO and the lead for each activity. If you would like to get involved and have a positive impact on our students, please consider chairing a committee or reaching out to a committee chair to see how you can help. 6 Volunteer Hours Dear MCCS Families, As we all know, being a part of a community school is a unique opportunity for our kids and families. Being a community means we all help out where we can. With that in mind, MCCS asks that each family contribute 6 hours of volunteer work per quarter. There are numerous opportunities to volunteer at MCCS! Some of the activities that can be used towards volunteer hours include: attending PTO meetings Helping plan an event Helping run an event Serving on and/or chairing a committee Serving on the PTO Board Helping in the classroom at a teacher s request Helping with classroom materials at home at a teacher s request Serving as a room parent Other help as requested (by the school or PTO) In addition to the above mentioned activities, EVERY family is asked to participate in some way with our main fundraiser, Breakfast with Santa. Recording Volunteer Hours: Beginning in the school year, all families will be asked to report their volunteer hours through the PTO website on a regular basis to help keep our records up to date. The MCCS PTO website includes a volunteer hour reporting system. If you sign up for something directly through the website, it will record the hours for you. You can also self-report hours through the submit volunteer hours link found under the volunteer tab on the website. 8 Breakfast with Santa Quick Guide December 3, :00am-10:40am Welcome to Breakfast with Santa! If you've never been before, you're in for a real treat! This event is MCCS PTO's biggest fundraiser of the year, allowing you, your family, and friends an opportunity for a great time while helping our community school achieve its goals to provide an innovative and creative learning environment for our students. Our event consists of: Pancake Breakfast - And not just pancakes! This buffet style breakfast also includes eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, juice, coffee and other delicious breakfast items! Fireside Lounge - The Fireside Lounge offers the same delicious breakfast, but with reserved seating in a more private setting. NEW THIS YEAR: reserve your seating time and purchase your tickets online. Pictures with Santa - Skip the line at the mall and have your pictures taken with Santa while you're eating breakfast! Our sitting fee is per family, not per child, and our photo delivery is digital, allowing you to order as many pictures as you choose. Free Cookie Decorating - A fun activity for the kids and easy on the wallet. Decorate sugar cookies with icing and holiday themed sprinkles and treats! Pick a Prize Raffle - Purchase raffle tickets and then choose which amazing items you'd like to try and win! We've already secured many donations including movie tickets, family game night basket, restaurant gift cards and much, much more! Silent Auction - Register your family to participate in the silent auction, a BWS tradition. You will have the opportunity to bid on prizes such as vacation home stays, spa and resort packages, winery tours and tastings, and tons of amazing items donated by local businesses from Middleburg and the surrounding area. Running an event of this size requires ALL families. Each MCCS family is expected to help in some way. There are opportunities to help before, during, and after the event. All work for BWS counts towards your 6 volunteer hours per quarter.
