1 Fall 2010 Syllabus SLN: Instructors: Anthony D Alesandro & Douglas Williams Place: Online/Internet Office: HAV F 215 B & HAV F 218 Time: 24-7 Phone: , Office Hours: tdalesan@math.asu.edu, williams@math.asu.edu Instructor's MAT 210 webpage address: General MAT 210 webpage address: Textbook: Finite Mathematics & Applied Calculus, Waner & Costenoble, Cengage Publishing, 5 th edition. Welcome to MAT210 Brief Calculus online. Your success is our first priority, so please feel free to send us whenever you have a question or need assistance. I also encourage you to check in with us periodically during office hours: MAT210 Online is 16 week long during the Fall and Spring Semesters, and 10 weeks during the summer. It is not a selfpaced, open-entry open-exit course, but an alternative to attending classes on campus. The Fall 2010 semester begins on August 19, 2010 and ends on December 9, The final exam is Thursday December 9, 2010 from 7:10 pm to 9:00 pm. Overview of MAT 210 Online: The course is designed as follows: 1. Online homework will include problems from each section from 10.1 to 14.4 and you will only have 5 submissions per problem. 2. Online quizzes (shorter than the hw) will also include problems from each section from 10.1 to 14.4, but you will only have 3 submissions per problem Online tests (~one per chapter) will only allow you 2 submissions per problem. 4. Supervised written Midterm Exam in ASU Mathematics Testing Center or some approved center if not in Phoenix area. 5. Supervised written Final Exam in ASU Mathematics Testing Center or some approved center if not in Phoenix area. Please print off all problems for hw, quizzes and tests. Solve the problems on paper, and then submit your answers online by the due dates shown in WebAssign. This will ensure that you get the right answer within the limited number of submissions per problems. Remember that for each hw problem you only get 5 chances, for each quiz problem you get only 3 chances, and for each test problem you get only 2 chances. Arizona State University, School of Mathematics and Statistics, Fall
