1 GETTING STARTED WITH FAMILY ACCESS What is Skyward Family Access? Family Access is a web based service that empowers parents and/or guardians to view school related information anywhere they have access to the Internet. Family Access provides real time information based on the data in the district s Skyward Student Information System. Because this is a real-time informational system, please keep in mind that assignments and grades are constantly changing as the teacher updates his/her grade book. Please allow up to 5 days after the due date of an assignment to see the grade given by the teacher. Projects and certain activities may take longer. Please see your child s teacher if you have questions related to grades and timelines. Supported Browsers Windows: Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox Mac: Chrome, Firefox and Safari NOTE: If you re having trouble with your browser or operating systems, please click on this link for more information. Skyward Minimum Requirements for Web Based Applications. Begin by going to the Amarillo Independent School District home page. 2 This first screen will allow you to login if you already have your username and password. If you do not have this information, below the login link is information telling you how to get this information from the contact person at your child s school. NOTE: The Skyward Family Access program will automatically log you out after a small period of inactivity. You will then have to log in again to continue your viewing. Clicking the Skyward Family Access link will direct you to the screen shown above. Fill in the blanks with the username and password you were given. Make sure the login area is listed for Family/Student Access. This is a password protected site. Please remember to keep your username and password confidential to avoid unauthorized use by others. 3 A - HOME SCREEN The first screen will be the Home Screen. The various parts of the screen are as follows: Skyward Family Access Menu 1. Student s Name (A dropdown arrow next to your child s name allows you to access your other child in the system for the same type of information.) 2. Parent s Username (parent s choice), My Account and Exit button 3. Family Access Menu (on the left of the screen) 4. Upcoming Events (on the student s schedule; also includes a link to the full calendar) NOTE: The main screen will contain messages to the parent that need attention. 4 B - CALENDAR SCREEN The calendar will display the items as chosen by the parent after clicking on the Calendar Display link (to the right of the month). The calendar display can be set to default by month, day or week and items listed below. Items include: Absences/Tardies, Grade book Assignments, Tests, Teacher Conferences, Lunch Menus, Field Trips and Calendar Events. Each item can be customized by color. 5 C - GRADE BOOK SCREEN The following items are shown on the grade book screen. 1. Student s name 2. Parent s username 3. Messages from the teacher 4. Student s name & campus; list of all classes; periods/times, and teacher s names. Different views can be shown by clicking on the Display Options link. 5. All grading report periods including progress reports are shown with the current term highlighted. NOTE: Assignments and the teacher s names are linked to more information. D - ATTENDANCE SCREEN The attendance screen has several views. 1. Today s attendance will always be shown. 2. All other attendance will be show below the today s section. 3. 6 E - STUDENT INFO SCREEN The student information screen will show general demographic and contact information as found on file with the district. The information is in the order that was set up by the parent listed as the student s guardian. Phone calls will be made in that order. The main area of the student information screen will contain the following information. 1. Name and picture of the student and basic information regarding the student 2. Home address of the parent 3. Principal s name and name of school; grade level, homeroom, 4. Emergency contacts as listed by the student s parent/guardian. 7 F - SCHEDULE SCREEN Since this is real-time data on the student, the current schedule will be listed at the time of viewing (1). 1. Clicking Display Options will change the display for just an individual six weeks or the year. 2. The daily schedule including periods and times will be listed in the first column. 3. The first term (6 wks) will be shown in the next column. 4. All other terms (six wks) will be in the next columns sequentially. G DISCIPLINE SCREEN Discipline records are listed on this screen. 1. 8 H HEALTH INFO. SCREEN All health records for the student will be listed here. 1. Vaccinations 2. Type required; state or local 3. Date(s) of vaccinations I - LOGIN HISTORY SCREEN This screen will reveal all logins to this particular student s information. 1. Date 2. Time and IP (computer s) address 3. 9 J - MY ACCOUNT SCREEN This is the Account Settings screen which shows various information from addresses to mailing addresses. Some of this information can be changed online such as the address; login and password information. 1 - MAILING ADDRESS Keeping your information current can be extremely important. It is not allowed to change this information online, so please see your campus Family Access contact to make changes to this area. DEPARTMENT OF DIGITAL LEARNING SKYWARD FAMILY ACCESS Page 9

10 2 - CHANGE LOGIN SCREEN The current login name (username) will be listed. Type your new login and the current password which is required. NOTE: Before clicking the Save button, write down your new login name and put it in a safe location. 3 - CHANGE PASSWORD SCREEN Changing your password follows the same procedure as changing your login (username), except you have to provide the current password before it can be changed. NOTE: Again, before clicking the Save button, write down your new password in the same safe location as the login information. NOTE: If you are using a computer in a public place such as the library or some other shared computer, be sure to LOG OUT so the next user of the computer is not able to see your Family Access information.
