2 Page 2 Page 27 TO ALL SCOUTS AND SCOUTERS CONTACT FOR HELP The Executive Board of the Voyageurs Area Council, Boy Scouts of America invites you to participate in a new program to help in the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America that is happening all over the United States of America. If you have any questions regarding the 100 Circle program, please contact the Council Service Center, your District Executive or your District Advancement person. A new jacket patch for our local council has been designed with 100 years in mind and is available for purchase in the Scout Service Center. By becoming a charter member of the 100 Circle, you can participate in a new program to earn segments to fill in around the new jacket patch each with a 100 theme.

3 Page 26 Page 3 VERIFICATION OF CONSERVATION HOURS HOURS DATE LEADER EARN YOUR SEGMENTS Take a minute to stop by the Scout Service Center to buy the patch and earn as many segments as you can (more segments will be added overtime.) The patch, with or without the segments, should be worn proudly on the back of any coat or jacket to display for all to see that you are a member of the 100 Circle from the Voyageurs Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. 100 CIRCLE BSA REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL SEGMENTS Requirements for each segment. 2. All segment requirements must be earned as part of a Boy Scout event and events must meet BSA two-deep adult leadership standard. 3. All segments must be verified by the unit s top leader i.e. Cubmaster or Scoutmaster. 4. A segment is earned once-a-lifetime.

4 Page 4 Page 25 PROGRAM OUTLINE DETAILS 1. As a member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Voyageurs Area Council, you may purchase the jacket patch for $10 and wear it on the back of any coat or jacket. We recommend the red woolen jacket sold in the Council Service center. 2. You may join in the fun as you try to earn as many of the segments as you can. Each segment involves the theme of Each segment can be earned by fulfilling all the stated requirements written for that particular segment. A unit leaders signature approving accomplishment of the segment s requirements must accompany patch and segment request form to the Council Service Center. 4. Segments can be mailed out or picked-up at the Council Service Center 100 HOURS OF CONSERVATION PROJECTS 1. Hours will count for conservation service only. (Projects may include trail building, erosion control, tree planting, etc.) 2. Hours can be accumulated. 3. Make sure you wear appropriate clothing and protective gear.

A Scout is Trustworthy. Each segment earned must be signed off by the unit leader. 7. Additional segments may be added and suggestions for new segments can be directed to the Council Service Center and the Council Advancement Committee. 8. This program has been designed to compliment your Scouting career and is not an official rank advancement requirement program. Segments can be earned over your lifetime and all segments do not have to be earned to wear the jacket patch. 9. Enjoy the program, the events, service and deeds and exemplify being a Scout by following the Scout Oath and Law at all times. 10. Council and District Volunteers are eligible. 11. For adults and older Scouts, segment requirements are retroactive to January 1, 2000.

6 Page 6 Page 23 THE 100 CIRCLE Anyone may BUY the 100 Circle jacket patch and wear it proudly. This jacket patch will highlight the 100 years of Scouting. Only the patches sold in 2009 and 2010 will have the National 100th Anniversary logo. You must ACHIEVE the segment requirements to EARN the segment. Please note that each segment must be earned as part of an BSA approved event or activity, with two-deep leadership and verification of completion by the top Unit Leader s signature. Ride 100 miles on a bike, wearing a helmet. 2. Miles can be accumulated. BSA logos on the segment pages highlight which programs may earn that segment.

7 Page 22 Page 7 VERIFICATION OF RECYCLING POUNDS HOURS DATE LEADER 100 NIGHTS OF CAMPING 1. The nights must be earned as a part of a troop campout such as a weekend trip, winter camp, camporee or patrol campout nights of the 100 must be at an approved BSA long-term camp or trek such as Philmont, Boy Scout Long-Term resident camp or a Troop High Adventure trek.

A Scout earns 1 degree for each below 0 night of camping in a tent or other non-cabin facility. 2. Nights are considered from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. 3. Degrees may be accumulated 4. Winter Camping training is suggested before campouts are held.

Miles can be accumulated. 3. Safety Afloat and Safe Swim Defense trained adults must be leading the trips

One hour is earned for each hour of attendance in a religious service such as a Scout Sunday or a Scout s Own Service at a troop campout. 2. This segment is an exception to the normal rule of a BSA approved event. You may include services you attend with your family. 3. Hours can be accumulated.

13 Page 16 Page 13 VERIFICATION OF 100 RANK REQUIREMENTS HOURS DATE LEADER 100 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE 1. One hour is earned for each hour of participation in a unit, district or council community service project such as Scouting for Food. 2. Hours must be recorded on the National Good Turn for America website by the unit leaders. Unit leaders may call the Scout Service Center for details and a password for the unit. 3. Hours can be accumulated. 4. Conservation projects cannot be counted.

Requirements earned can be accumulated. 3. Cub Scout electives and Merit Badges earned can be counted.
